Most Arabs have underdeveloped sense of empathy. I don't think it's biological but cultural. That's why you lie and lie and mimic human behavior but inside you are cold and empty.

I am very touched by his story. Among 40 posts only three delusional were not impressed by Hisham, what is rare in Israel. 90% of the posts praised him, honored him, wished him the best. He is the living proof that in the essence people are the same. Have you imagined what this man has undergone deep in his soul? He must have found ressentment in both sides, Muslims and Jewish alike. Arabs seem to outwardly support whoever they think will give them the most in return. Today it is Nasrallah for giving pride to the Arabs or the IDF to integrate into Israeli society. Our fear is that allegiances will suddenly change. We Israelis should do more to help integrate all citizens who want to integrate into the Israeli melting pot whether they serve in the army or not and regardless of their political opinions and backgrounds. That is the purpose of the nation state. There is a contradiction between these two ideas: an Arab Eastern group mentality and a Western Israeli individualistic mentality. This is what fuels the conflict even more.

You're right, there have been plenty of Arab officers in the Army. From what I understand, he was the first Muslim officer in a combat (kravi) unit.

Most Israelis do not care if you are Arab or not. They care that you are not against them as Jews. I know many Palestinians who work in high level jobs (high tech, lawyers, judges, doctors, etc.) and no one prevented them from getting to that level. Most Palestinians have this idea they are third class citizens so they sit in their villages believing they are. It is not true. What is true is that Arab cities and villages and schools don't get fair budgets but Arabs in many villages find ways not to pay taxes. Both have to change to create a just society.

There are many successful doctors, judges and University professors in Israel who are Arabs. Somehow you make your mind to become somebody and you pursue your self-determination. If you decided to become a Jew-hater, nothing can be done to stop you. But if you will ever understand that the opportunities are just around the corner maybe you will be able to embrace principles of coexistence.
