61. His family roots
Chaya ,   Tel Aviv   (10.14.10)
I believe that his family's roots are Jewish.
62. Well, it is hard not to be moved by this and...
Oleg   (10.14.10)
Although I am always sceptic about everything, It was very touching. If it was an jewish person on the other side, people would call him self hating jew, And I am sure a lot of arabs says this about this man. But with all that, it is still a very interesting story. If I would know this person, defenetly would not care if he is muslim or not. Someone who serves in the army as I did (that we all love and hate at the same time) deserves all the respect. Also, it is very interesting to hear that some of the people around him accept that. That is also a nice thing but on the other hand - have so many people who turned their backs on him. Usually I have always bad things to say about something that I read, this time I think it is different. Best of Luck to you!!!
63. He wouldn't have to be lone
Axel Bavaria ,   Passau, Germany   (10.14.10)
I guess his example perfectly shows that it was a grave error of Israel to exempt the Arabs from military duty. The Arabs are citizens of Israel and enjoy all the benefits, plus more (affirmative action, cheap land for rent, building without building permits, etc.). Giving them not only all the rights, but as well the duties would make the Arabs feel that they are a part of Israel, that they really are Israelis and their fate is linked to that of the Jews. Granted, they would not be killed by the invading Arab armies, at least not wholesale like the Jews, but the Israeli Arabs would lose a lot of the freedoms and privileges they enjoy now in the Jewish nation. The Jews have brought the Arabs into a humiliating position, which makes any man angry: They only receive, they are never asked to give. This robs any man of his self-respect and fills him with hate. Time to right this wrong and make full citizens of the Israeli Arabs, with all rights AND all duties.

Is that important? Perhaps Captin Cruch is also having Jewish Origins, doesn't make me want to eat his cereal anymore than I already do. Keep religion out of the picture sweetie. We care about people and how they treat one another. He does not have beef with Jews, and does not hate on the state. Rather, he looks to give back, and is given back in return. Whether he is of Jewish origin or not is no issue, except in smaller minds.

Although on paper what you say has logic, you're either innocently or purposefully ignoring facts. Much of these Israeli Arabs, had grandparents who quietly or openly supported the invading armies. They never believed Jews would win the war, let alone having to integrate into a state that was not purely Arab in culture. This issue will take time, and by the majority of them only fueling their hatred for the state, it will only lengthen the process. Those who do integrate will become better off. I disagree with you position that they don't have equal rights, as I am sure reading books in Germany is misleading. Ever been to Israel? Plus, how many Jewish Prime ministers or vice primeministers have you had in Germany? Or for that matter anywhere else in the world? Although you're right our numbers are small, our intellect is enormous, as is our talent. So before you harp on Jews to allow equal opportunities take the first step and allow Jews to be prime ministers of Germany at least once or twice in a blue moon. Hum, then again, only Christians have been primeministers of Germany... Should I cry second class citizenship?

71. i dont see any reason not to.
mzh ,   Efrat   (10.15.10)
i dont see any reason not to,since he is a person of the state, which which wants to serve it. and i think its a very childish response to a good and selfless act. If it would be dangers act the army wouldn't except him.
72. Is he really the first?
Steve ,   new york, usa   (10.16.10)
Is he really the first Israeli-Arab officer? Haven't there been Druze and Bedouin officers in the IDF? Is he the first non-Bedouin Moslem officer?

74. "He isn't a traitor!! he is a true Israeli!!!"
Samir S. Halabi ,   Geneva, Switzerland   (01.31.14)
This brave man is indeed a true son of Israel, He just want's to show that he is just as much an Israeli as any other Israeli Jew is. He decided to take on the responsibility of protecting his country of birth by enlisting into the IDF. Good luck to him and Kol-Hakavod.
