The real 'disaster' for the Palestinian Arabs was that the leaders of Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Lebanon & Iraq did not accept the UN partition plan which would have given them a State in 1948. Remember, the UN plan was designed to create a Jewish State (Israel) and an Arab State. Unfortunately, there was no Palestinian movement at the time and we all know what the response was from all of the surrounding Arab countries.
