1. responsibility
absolutetripe   (05.18.11)
"But a person who cannot take responsibility for small sins he committed himself, cannot take responsibility for the much worse crime his grandfather committed" Judging by the photo, this man would not even have been born when the holocaust occured.. whay should he then be held responsible for it?
2. OBL wants company
pacific ocean ,   the ocean   (05.18.11)
i suggest we may send him a little friend
3. Surprised ?
Morris ,   Manchester, UK   (05.18.11)
Why should the views of the grandson of a nazi criminal be of any interest? Is redemption our concern? His actions speak for themselves. Dump the bastards !
4. sick
EU secular zionist ,   munich/germany   (05.18.11)
Provided this Höß was or is in contact with neo-nazi groups he didn't understand a bit. Seems to to be a broken person with a shattered story. Dealing with the murderous past of the family. Responsibilty? Seems that these Höß' have never known what it is, neither truth or decency.
5. Why? why should he be responsible?
David ,   L.A. USA   (05.18.11)
"In the past years I have met many offspring of Nazis, who dealt and deal seriously with the crime of their ancestors." We are not our grandfathers. He should not have to repent for them, and as a writer you should stop harassing the man for wanting to see his GRANDFATHER in a good light. His grandfather's demons are not his own, let off the guy.
6. who cares
tiki ,   belgium   (05.18.11)
He's not responsable for his grandfathers murders. If he has or hasn't mental problems because of it, is his problem. How he wants to deal with his murderous inheritance is also his problem.
7. There exists an excellent article about
Chris Rettenmoser ,   Bayerisch Gmain Germ   (05.18.11)
the "new" Germany...just google: William E. Grim...!!!!
8. What a rambling, poorly written article
Gil ,   Tel Aviv   (05.18.11)
I was starting to get bored with this neurotic fixation the writer has with regard to this dim witted grandson of an evil nazi. Seriously, what do you expect from a dumb looking nebisch such as this? He clearly doesn't have the depth to deal with his family's past which I am willing to bet has been a "off limits" topic, talk about repressed. What a waste of time.
9. #5: read the damn article b 4 commenting!
EZ ,   US   (05.18.11)
No one said he should take responsibility fir his grandparents crimes: the author said be should take responsibility for HIS OWN: it's right there on the page. Good greif: generation "can't read". U must be a kid.
10. Good to document but perverse
EZ ,   US   (05.18.11)
Well, someone has to document these things to ensure it never happens again but it already has begun...or never stopped. This punk is early outside of the boundaries of humanity: was a "leader" of a Neo-Nazi group.... Well, that kind of says it all right there. These Germans have changed very little: they simply put on a new Verneer is all. Disgusting and pathetic: hopefully, Germany will defend what honor it has a d raid his house, confiscate the belongings and forbid him to posses any such memorabillia for life. Done deal. I'm gonna go throw up now.
11. biggest holocaust
Bob Canada ,   Canada   (05.18.11)
It is terrible that my ancestors were fed to lions and tortured in stadiums. As Christian we should never forget what the roman empire did to our people 50 millions were killed by this abominable government.
12. What an unhappy article
Facundo ,   Argentina   (05.18.11)
I started reading it but I got bored in the middle. Just one point. So what if he wanted to sell his grandfather issues? A lot of people make movies or write books about terrible events and make a fortune out of that and are treated like heroes. So the author should write an article against all the people who became rich telling inhuman stories?
13. those must have been fake

(05.18.11)
in case you have reading comprehension problems....read the article again. in no way is the author blaming this miserable grandson of hoss as responsible for the holocaust or of what his criminal grandfather did. the author is blaming the grandson of trying to profit from the criminal grandfather's possessions, sell them for profit and conduct business on the memory of the millions his murderer grandfather killed. he is not responsible for his past, but for his present conduct which is despicable and in turn, shows no pangs of conscience for the past, nor honors it.
15. Maspik!
Dan S. ,   USA   (05.18.11)
I have had it with these people going on and on about the Holocaust treating it like some sort of sacrosanct issue. Fine - the the grandson of the Nazi is a dumbass. Fine - maybe he should have asked first about how the sale of these items might be received before it became pubic otherwise. But let's get real - I think there are some people who have milked the unfortunate history of the Holocaust for all the money and publicity its worth. I think there are some who regard this more highly than Torah. This BS article is just one example. The best way to prevent a new Holocaust is to stop living in the past, recognize its lessons, and apply them to the very real dangers that face us today. I see that as the most respectful way to remember those honored dead who were lost during WWII.
16. 1 absolutetripe: The sins of the fathers are visited upon
Rivkah   (05.18.11)
the children to the third and fourth generation. The judgment of the grandfather's sins will be visited on the grandchildren and great grand children. That is what is happening in Japan, now. Why hasn't that happened in Germany, yet? A possible reason is that Jewish holocaust survivors are being paid stipends by the German government.
17. No. 6,Obviously you don't care.
noa ,   israel   (05.18.11)
But there are Holocaust survivors and their offspring who do.
18. I watched the film
Uma   (05.18.11)
And this article is more than important. Now everything makes sense. Watching it, it seemed like the journalist was just a skeptical person. Now I see that they didn't show some important things and didn't reveal all the facts. I thought it was a good documentary. Not anymore. They should've shown both sides if it's a doc. As for all the repulsive talkbacks here, I won't be surprised if it's the same person who wrote many of them.... The article is good and important, and it's the duty of the journalist who was there to reveal the truth. The guy said that his dad was a proud Nazi, so Gil- it wasn't an off limits topic. You should watch the film to understand. The guy was a senior member of a Neo Nazi movement, and you write that he should not be held responsible? Have you actually read the article? I don't believe half of what "people" wrote here. How convenient it is to write talkbacks in English. No one knows who you are or where from. You can have different names and come from all over the world.... Disgusting.
19. #11, Bob...be careful during your next
Chris Rettenmoser ,   Bayerisch Gmain Germ   (05.18.11)
visit to the ZOO...!!!
20. I feel angry
Nora Fischbach ,   Caracas, Venezuela   (05.19.11)
Dear Eldad, I am Nora Fischbach Hirshbein, I am a grand daughter of four grand fathers survivors from Auschwitz and Dachau! I belive in Rainer via facebook, allways questioned myself having a "conversation" with a grandson of a Nazi, now what can I do? I feel guilty!!!!!
21. #18 is right - see the film...
T. Anne ,   Berlin, Germany   (05.19.11)
... then maybe it will be clear that the "documentary" was very selective, in a way that favored the grandson of Hoess and kept any critique out of the picture. Uma, I have not seen the film. But I really appreciate your take on this. This article helps balance the picture.
22. #11
IZL   (05.19.11)
Most of the early Christians were Jews who chose a new belief system... What is your ethnicity? Anglo-saxon, celt, gaul, thracian, etc...
23. Are you any better?
Jak Yunger ,   Stockholm   (05.19.11)
Oh shut up already and stop living in the past. You're also beating a dead dog trying to make a living from the Holocaust. What hasn't been said about it already? What more can you add? Are you any better?
24. profiteering
NZ   (05.19.11)
Unfortunately, many have profited from Holocaust by writing books and making movies. Just because he is Hoess' grandson doesn't necessarily make it bad that he is trying to sell some old family items because he needs the money. Is it that they want him to donate the items instead or offering them for sale? Some Neo-Nazis have even managed to get some slivers of wood off of the gallows stake from which Hoess was hung at Auschwitz as a so called Nazi holy relic.

ghostq   (05.19.11)
in the Gael and German tribes something very common with Jews, in fact there is new movie that show how the Roman Empire treated the Germans and the Gael, the name of the Movie is "the Eagle" and I am not doing PR, just small glimps will tell you that Jews weren't the only nation who sufferd by the Romans.
27. to #23 so you won't be offended
ghostq   (05.19.11)
if I will make a movie about how the Mighty Vikings murdered people in your country just so they can loot the place mmm thanks for the advise, I can now start writting a script.

IZL   (05.20.11)
Thanks for the information. I will check out the video. Most of the tbers are selective in their choice of history. Some even distort facts. I am very well aware that Rome was pure scum to most other nations. In fact, I have always said the world would be a nicer place had Hannibal ransacked Rome.
