32. Abbas lies and you keep your mouth shut
Larry   (05.17.11)
Meek, weak and a no reply from Bibi. Why don't you tell him in his face in front of cameras, the media, in Washington, in the UN that Abbas is full of Sh...t, that he is full of lies. When Abbas and the others open their big fat mouth, the world listen. A little article in the paper and your job is done. You and your Govt are a charade. You stay long enough and the country will melt awway.
33. Lies lies and more lies!
Susie ,   Scotland   (05.17.11)
Its the same here in the UK. Nearly every Muslim I have ever met has a completely distorted view of the history surrounding the creation of Israel and events since then. It is quite frightening because these people are educated students and lectures at Universities.
34. @Hammam Its not "israel" version its the history version (nt
Ros ,   Israel   (05.17.11)
35. No, Abbas is not distorting at all
CC   (05.17.11)
Rather he is falsifying history wholesale hoping that the naive world will buy into this outright falsification. Cheap rotten liar. A pregnant Zionist response clearing the issue is called for, now!
36. You want to make sense
StevieT ,   USA   (05.17.11)
then explain where 2,000,000 Israeli Arabs came from if they were expelled in 1947?
37. #30 except
Israel Israeli ,   Tel Aviv   (05.17.11)
Except that Arab "resistance" (murder of innocent Jews) as well as massive Arab immigration began in 1920 during the British occupation. Sorry, you fail.
38. The world is simply racist.
Shmuel Ingalut ,   Miami, Fl   (05.17.11)
Truly, the singlemindedness of all of the world's powers against the Jew points to RACISM, pure and simple. There is no level of logic or information that will satisfy a sociologically imbedded racist assessment of any situation that concerns a Jew. It's a good thing that American are not racist . Of course, if they step out of line, they better watch out! Just kidding. We're modern. We're not racist. It couldn't happen here. We're better than all of the other people who ever lived, anywhere. Who needs to know history, anymore?
39. Of course he is lying. It's Palestinian policy.
Brian Cohen ,   Judean Peoples Front   (05.17.11)
We know that the Palestinians are liars. Arafat was a liar. Abbas is a liar. Erekat is a liar. This is nothing new to us. The problem is the kneejerk politically correct politicos in Brussels and Washington who still think that there used to be a country called "Palestine" (there never was one). The Palestinians are the new Afrikaaners. They've invented their own history and culture, and the bubble will burst when they get their country and the world discovers that it's just another brutal, racist, xenophobic, apartheid, misogynist Arab dictatorship.
40. Correction
(05.17.11)
Even as a huge supporter of Israel, Netanyahu's facts are incorrect. The War of INdependence and the Haganah's expulsion of Arabs from Palestine occured well before May 1948. Most Israelis who know and recognize their own history realize this.
41. First past the post wins. Abbas got his
Harry Wright ,   UK   (05.17.11)
story on the NYT. Netanyahu only answers him to the home crowd. I only just found out that Nakba was a 1998 Arafat invention. Such a pity that Israel does not have a friendly Western newspaper it can channel articles to or a sympathetic Western journalist who can do features that reflect the truth. Abbas has the rag NYT - still better than nothing. Nakba was in the air so long ago, there was enough time to do something proactive instead of Israel ending up being reactive and defensive. I guess the government had better things to do. Who besides Israelis care what Netanyahu says at this point????
42. Abbas on his 'expulsion' from Safed
marvls ,   ny   (05.17.11)
His account of his family’s having been “forced to flee” from Safed in May 1948 is only half the story. In February of that year the Jews of Safed came under attack and siege by the city’s Arabs. In April local militiamen supported by the “Arab Liberation Army” tried to take over Safed’s Jewish quarter and were repelled by Haganah fighters. As Haganah gained the upper hand in early May, the city’s Arab residents fled (according to Abbas in an interview on al-Palestinia TV in 2009) in fear of revenge by Jews of the Arab massacres of Safed’s Jews in 1929!
43. #29, #30 DemB Selective Facts
solomon ,   bklyn   (05.17.11)
Your 'facts' are very selective; expected from someone who grasps at straws for justifications. #29- Bernadotte was murdered by LEHI. The mainstream Jewish organizations including the Haganah, decried the murder. Unlike murders by arabs of Jews which are celebrated by all. There IS a difference. #30- Arab ARMIES (with few Palestinians) invaded immediately after the state was declared. This shows they were poised to do so; the declaration was not the cause, the cause was the Kill The Jews. "Resistance" implies fighting in place to resist intruders. Therefore it was the Jews who resisted the modern arab Armies. Not many Palestinians were involved as most had left at the behest of the arab armies, which promised they would return shortly.
44. Abbas is of a mind from 1936.
Ypip ,   Canada   (05.17.11)
45. U-turn
Yosef ,   Palm Beach USA   (05.17.11)
Bibi - do not make a U-turn from your great speech before the Knesset. The 5 conditions for peace with Falastyn must be adhered to scrupulously, if the Jewish state is to survive. Do not cave in and surrender to Obama's perverse charm and empty promises. America needs to hear resolve and principles from Israeli prime-minister. Do not disappoint the many millions of friends we have there. P.S. Shame on Tzipi L. - she cackles like a hen- just for the sake of cackling
46. To: No. 16
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (05.17.11)
No, the ersatz "Palestinians" left voluntarily, heeding the promise of their leadership to get out of the way while they drove the Jews into the sea. It didn't quite work out that way, but you cannot fault Israel for winning a war that the Arabs started. Half your problem is that you have no identity as "Palestinians" -- you co-opted it from the Jews, who are the true Palestinians. You should have taken the deal in 1947, but no -- you chose war instead. More fool you; you cannot put toothpaste back into the tube. That's the other half of your problem -- you invent your history as you go along. You need to take ownership of your decisions, and responsibility for the consequences that ensue. Yeah, it really is your fault; you're just not capable of handling the truth. Too bad; all the distortion and spin in the world is not going to change the facts on the ground -- you are a vanquished people, and you will get nothing.
47. NYT Needs to be Sued
Avi ,   NY USA   (05.17.11)
NYT is liable for printing falsehoods by allowing Abbas to assert facts that were not true. The need to be sued and sued bigtime

51. Abbas - his own words - please read.
DR ,   Wales   (05.17.11)
Mahmoud Abbas writing in FaZastin al-Thawra (an official publication of the PLO) in March 1976 - aka Abu Mazen, a member of the PLO executive committee, noted: "The Arab armies entered Palestine to protect the Palestinians. .. . but, instead, they abandoned them, forced them to emigrate and to leave their homeland, imposed upon them a political and ideological blockade and threw them into prisons similar to the ghettos in which the Jews used to live in Eastern Europe." (this is widely available on the web and the public domain, check it out. When dealing in lies a person needs a very good memory. Clearly Mr. Abbas has forgotten what he once said.) Indeed it is expediently overlooked that in 1948 there would not have been one single Arab refugee - not even one - had the Arab states not chosen to go to war in defiance of a United Nations resolution with the declared aim of destroying the newly reborn State of Israel.
52. @Mike - 2. So why did Jordan occupy Palestine???
Yaëlle Schlichting ,   Raubling Germany   (05.17.11)
Well, in fact in 1949 Jordan annexed the West Bank. +++ Annexing means, they said: "It's ours. From now on it's an integral part of Jordan." +++ But this is not the only story Palestinians are telling. Here in Germany it seems, they are busy rewriting the whole history. +++ e.g. They are denying the pogroms and displacement of Jews in Arab countries. They openly claim, that such a thing has never happened ant it is an malicious accusation by the Zionist conspiracy. +++ When the Arab armies started the war on 15th of May 1948 they only wanted to help the poor Palestinians who had to flee the Jewish terror..... +++ Wanna read more of this bullshit?
53. No surprise that NY Times published this nonsense
DavidM ,   CTUSA   (05.18.11)
It is unfortunately no surprise that this nonsense was published in the New York Times. This is the same newspaper that invited Colonel Qadaafi to write an editorial and the same paper that urged a civilian jury trial for the organizers of the September 11 attacks.
54. #16: Israel had nothing to do with Palestinian lands
ignorant   (05.18.11)
If you know nothing about a dubject, why don't you read about it before commentsting on something you know nothing about? Israel came out of what was called the Jewish "YIshuv". Many villages, towns (like Tel Aviv for instance) which were build from the 1880s on empty lands purchased by the Jews. On the basis of these Jewish settlements the UN came to a conclusion that British Palestine should be devided to 2 states - an Arab and a Jewish. The one who doesn't make any sense is you.
55. in 48, Israel expelled neither Palis, nor Arab armies
observer ,   Egypt   (05.18.11)
in all wars, tiny Israel had Army that over-numbered Arab armies even in the 1948 war.
56. seacur1946 #6
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (05.18.11)
Definition of foreign is real simple though it might be too difficult for you to understand - means non-citizen. Anybody that is not an Israeli citizen or legal Israeli resident should be deported. Did you understand that or should I use smaller words for your smaller intellect? Kind of like the rules in the United States.
57. Say whatever you like Bibi
Abdalla ,   London   (05.18.11)
You had your two years to engrave your name in history as the Israeli leader who finished the conflict with the Palestinians. Even the editor of the Jerusalem Post told you to own the process rather than be a bystander, but you blew it. People thought you changed, but you obviously didn't. Even in terms of fighting, you haven't done to Israel one tenth of what Rabin and Sharon did, yet you think you are the "melech". See you in September at the UN General Assmebly.
58. DemBdaFacts #30
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (05.18.11)
We do not nor have we ever believed that UNGAR 181 did any such thing, nor do we believe it is legal. It did not create a country. It did recommend that the UK give up the mandate, which the UK agreed to. But that was their choice. The rest of the resolution was in direct violation of Article 80 of the UN Charter and thus illegal. We created a Jewish State. Not the US, not the UN, we did it. As for unilateral declarations, so what? There were no 'Palestinians' in 1948 and the Arabs announced they were going to finish what the Nazis had started. They lost - TFB. Resisted my ass - they invaded with the avowed intent of genocide. According to the San Remo Treaty, Mandate for Palestine and the UN Charter this is our land. Don't like that fact, shove it where the sun don't shine.
59. #30, You are right, EXCEPT...
Jake   (05.18.11)
Jewish national entitlement to all the land of the mandate west of the Jordan was underwritten by the San Remo Conference of 1921 and the Palestine Mandate document, and Article 80 of the UN Charter, none of which has ever been superceded in Int'l Law. The Arab states violated international law by invading flegling Israel, and indeed any part of the former Mandate territory. Excuse Israel for winning! But thanks for admitting that the Jewish State was created by its founders and not under the aegis of the UN. And thanks for admitting that this is about 1948, not 1967.
60. why looting, more looting, if Jews agreed to Partition Plan
observer ,   Egypt   (05.18.11)
Indiscriminate plundering of Palestinian property by Jews in 1948 was so common that it caused Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion to confide to his diary that he was 'bitterly surprised' by the 'mass robbery' in which all parts of the population participated. [...] Tom Segev reported: 'In Haifa, Jaffa and Jerusalem there were many civilians among the looters.' Another Israeli writer, Moshe Smilanky, reported: 'Individuals, groups and communities, men, women and children, all fell on the spoils. Doors, windows, lintels, brinks, roof-tiles, floor-tiles, junk and machine parts ...' Segev commented that Smilansky 'could have also added to the list toilet bowls, sinks, faucets and light bulbs. -- p.68 of Fallen Pillars by Donald Neff
