You lie enough to be Abbas. First off the Egyptian Army out number the IDF all by itself. And we have always had a smaller army. As for looting, sorry but nobody here buys your lies. Arabs are the thieves, not Jews.
62. #55 Blind As A Bat "''observer"""
solomon ,   bklyn   (05.18.11)
Correct for once! Israel did NOT expel Pals or Arab Armies. The Arab Armies were beaten back after they invaded, and most of the Pals left at the behest of these same Arab Armies. BUT the six (!) Arab Armies with additional "movements" [Army of Islam. etc] DID outnumber the Israelis in both men and equipment. At the first, major part of the war, until the truce, the arab equipment was also vastly superior to those of Israel. [NOTE: At the time 'Israelis' were referred to as Palestinians by their friends, and Jews by their enemies] So much for "observing"...

The UN established a Special Commission on Palestine (UNSCOP) to devise a solution. Delegates from 11 nations* went to the area and found what had long been apparent: The conflicting national aspirations of Jews and Arabs could not be reconciled. The contrasting attitudes of the two groups "could not fail to give the impression that the Jews were imbued with the sense of right and were prepared to plead their case before any unbiased tribunal, while the Arabs felt unsure of the justice of their cause, or were afraid to bow to the judgment of the nations." 1 Although most of the Commission's members acknowledged the need to find a compromise solution, it was difficult for them to envision one given the parties' intractability. At a meeting with a group of Arabs in Beirut, the Czechoslovakian member of the Commission told his audience: "I have listened to your demands and it seems to me that in your view the compromise is: We want our demands met completely, the rest can be divided among those left." 2 When they returned, the delegates of seven nations —Canada, Czechoslovakia, Guatemala, The Netherlands, Peru, Sweden and Uruguay —recommended the establishment of two separate states, ewish and Arab, to be joined by economic union, with Jerusalem an internationalized enclave. Three nations —India, Iran and Yugoslavia —recommended a unitary state with Arab and Jewish provinces. Australia abstained. The Jews were not satisfied with the small territory allotted to them by the Commission, nor were they happy that Jerusalem was severed from theewish State; nevertheless, they welcomed the compromise. The Arabs rejected the UNSCOP's recommendations. The ad hoc committee of the UN General Assembly rejected the Arab demand for a unitary Arab state. The majority recommendation for partition was subsequently adopted 33-13 with 10 abstentions on November 29, 1947.

66. The Solution
Adam Neira ,   Melb, Australia   (05.18.11)
The solution to the Holy Land and especially the Judea and Samaria/West Bank land use issue is for the land to be shared. The right of return issue can be dealt with as well if the areas of the The Temple Mount, Jerusalem, The State of Israel proper, Judea and Samaria, Gaza, Jordan, Egypt, Syria, Lebanon and Saudi Arabia fall under the reach of a divinely mandated command structure. i.e. Messianic Sovereignty, A Kingdom. With an economic development plan implemented and the assistance of the international community the region will really bloom. No other permutation or combination will work.

Hal ,   Usa   (05.18.11)
An Egyptian, no less an Arab accusing someone of looting? Since the 7th century Arabs have looted their way accross half the globe. As an Egyptian you have no right to point a finger at Israel after what your predecessors did to Egyptian Jews. No soup for you, one year!!!!
73. No 55 Your distorting the truth. 1948.67 and 1973
Ari ,   Romania Israel   (05.18.11)
Arabs were a mayority. I dont know your age but probably you were raized to believe that Israelies were more than the Arabs. THis Arab-Palestinian narrative which distorts reality is the one that is making the peace process a problem Also in 1948 ere the arabs that asked the local arab palestinians to leave since thgey were going to thow the jews to the sea. That did not happen. What is true is that the Arabs even though they outnumbered the Jews there wasnt not a central command of the Arab armies and they were poorly organized.
74. to number 30 Yes Bernardotte was murdered...
Ari   (05.18.11)
But Ralph Bunch took it's Place. Bernardotte was to give recomendations to back track what was already approved, so the English could continue with the Mandate. Israeldeclare Independence the Day English left Palestine. Leaving the Arabs, specially the Jordanians well armed. And the Partition Plan was voted by the UN general assemly and approved by security Council resolutions. Jews accepted and Arabs did not
75. Rabin vs. Netanjahu
Jehudah Ben-Israel ,   Qatzrin, Israel   (05.18.11)
Rabin's dubbed worldwide as the brave Prince of Peace, and Netanjahu's ideas are identical: 1) Jerusalem will remain united under Israel's sovereignty. 2) Major Jewish settlement blocs will be part of the sovereignty state of Israel. 3) The Jordan Valley will remain under Israel's control. 4) Future Palestinian state will be demilitarized and Israel will control its airspace and border passes. In addition: The leadership of Palestinian state must accept Israel's right to exist as the nation-state of the Jewish people. A peace agreement must be considered the "end of the conflict". A peace agreement must be the "end of all future demands". Rabin spoke at the Knesset in October 1995, while Natanjahu in May 2011. The former, the left wing Labor Chairman and Prime Minister. The latter, the right wing Likud Chairman and present Prime Minister. Both, men of peace who have been/are also Jewish/Israeli patriots eager to see a peace in our region but not at the expense of Israel national and security interests. P.S. Rabin's approach as well as that of Netanjahu's are based on UN Security Council Resolution, 242, which was designed to resolve the Arab Israeli conflict, has been accepted by ALL relevant parties to the conflict and has been the basis for all peace talks to date as well as actual agreements. Sadly, the Arabs, instead of allowing for the conflict to come to an end have chosen to "pocket" all that they have received up to now, e.g. autonomous region, "police" force, etc. but not reaching an accommodation of peaceful coexistence between Arab and Jew, between the Muslim-Arab world and the nation-state of the Jewish people, Israel.
76. Hammam-you were just born yesterday!
Maria ,   USA   (05.18.11)
You don't your history! Before 1967, the Palestinians in West Bank were called Jordanians; Palestinians in Gaza, Egyptians. The Palestine Mandate belong to the Jews-all of it! The British gave away Gods' land to the Arabs-Emir Abdullah and his children(they were originally belong to Mecca).
77. no30. If Israel was created unilaterally ....
Ari ,   Romania Israel   (05.18.11)
How it became a member of the UN? The UN GA voted in favor of the Partition of Palestine in two states arabs did not accepted and Jews did. Based in this Israel declared Independence and was accepted as a member of the UN
78. to #57 Rabin has never left legacy behind him
ghostq   (05.18.11)
and every one know that during his era the sucide bombing around Israel were at their highest, I don't think it would be right to compare the two, Rabin came from militery background while Bibi came from political background, the atitude toward security mesures r totally different.

80. in 2006, Northerners Israelis left by their own will
observer ,   Egypt   (05.18.11)
Although accounts of what happened at Deir Yassin differ, there is general agreement that the Arab killings there in April 1948 significantly fueled the panic in which hundreds of thousands of Arabs left their homes and villages. Altogether some 250 Arabs, mostly non-combatants, were murdered; there were also cases of mutilation and rape. The surviving inhabitants were expelled to Arab-held East Jerusalem. Virtually entire Christian and Muslim population of Jerusalem was forcefully expelled from the Jewish occupation zone in 1948, while the Jews of Iraq, Morocco and Egypt enjoyed peace and prestige. in 2006, Jewish leaders did not ask their people to leave, but 70% of them ran away from the North in fear of Hizbollah missiles without ever setting eyes on a Lebanese guerrilla.
81. after Hudnas, Jews acquired much more weapons
observer ,   Egypt   (05.18.11)
far exceeding those of Arabs. Arabs started only one war, in 1973, and were victorious then. The Jews won only one war, in 1967, because they perfidiously attacked without declaring the war. In 1967, Israel grabbed the West Bank and Gaza after war WITH Jordan and Egypt, There was no war against Palestinians of the West Bank and Gaza in 1967, Israel admits that for the good reason that Israel does not recognize Palestinians as nation people who has an army.

83. What Palestine is Abbas or NYT talking
Iranian Jew ,   LA   (05.18.11)
about? WB belonged to Jordan and Gaza belonged to Egypt. Israel did not fight Palesttine. Israel fought Jordan and Egypt in 1967. Palestine was created by Arafat only after 1967 war. You can make up stories and lies as much as you want Mr. Abbass. We all know the truth and we'll fight back with it.
84. #83 Irania Jew knows that Israel fought Jordan, Egypt in 67

87. Ari #74, Actually you are incorrect
Jake   (05.18.11)
No offense, byutwhat you claimed that the Security council passed resolutions to approve the Partition Plan is factually incorrect, and you are actually doing Israel a great disservice by claiming this. The Security Council refused to pass ANY resolution which would have adopted or implemented the Partition Plan, and returned the matter to the General Assembly, washing its hands of the whole issue of partition. The Jewish Agency accepted the principle of partition, but Israel did not incorporate the boundaries proposed in the Partition Plan in its Declaration of Independence. Thank God. Had they done so, they would have been required to cede Acco, Beersheba, Nazareth, Lod, Ramle, Yafo, and many other cities in pre-1967 Israel to the Arab state. Jerusalem would have been part of a UN-administered international zone. Fortunately, the Partition Plan was only voted upon in the General Assembly, never adopted by the Security Council. It was also in the General Assembly that Israel UN membership was approved.
88. #60 observer and his BRILLIANT,,,ah, umm, err
CK Tan ,   Singapore, Singapore   (05.18.11)
...whatever. So observer REGURGITATES the same DISCONNECTED details by another same name "observer" trying to LINK the unloading of FAKE flotilla aid in Israel last year to the so-called LOOTING. The SAME disconnect now SURFACES re the Partition Plan. And he calls himself OBSERVER. How LAUGHABLE. Makes me wonder what he is SMOKING. Of course observer prefers to HIDE the fact that, at that period, the Jews were ROBBED of their possessions when they were ETHNICALLY-CLEANSED from Arab states. With the Arab states waging war against them, the Jews had little CHOICE or resources to rely on. Thus the "looting" bit had NOTHING to with Israel agreeing to Partition Plan.
89. #81 observer - MORE historical HOGWASH
CK Tan ,   Singapore, Singapore   (05.18.11)
1. Jews acquired much more weapons far exceeding those of Arabs REVEAL the stats that PROVE your claim. Should be easy. 2. Arabs started only one war, in 1973 Then how do you ACCOUNT for the Arabs telling the UNSC in April 1948 that they had begun ATTACKING the Jews? Or that the 1973-74 war waged by Egypt, Syria, Iraqi, Libya, Jordan, etc? Oh SILLY me, these are CHINESE countries, NOT Arab ones, duh! 3. The Jews won only one war in 1967 Yes, and Israel "LOST" the OTHER wars by GAINING the Golan Heights, WB, Gaza, South Lebanon, etc, Oh SILLY Israel, what a "LOSER", duh! 4. In 1967, Israel grabbed the West Bank and Gaza after war WITH Jordan and Egypt Only because Egypt and its Arab allies had mobilised nearly half a MILLION troops, close to 3000 tanks and about 800 aircraft encircling Israel. The Arab DECLARATIONS at that time were CLEAR - they were READY to launch an all-out attack to ANNIHILATE Israel. Egypt then CUT off Israel's ONLY supply route with Asia - an act even the then US govt AGREED that it was an act of WAR. Consequence? LOSERS weepers. And of course HOGWASH from losers' SHILL.
