31. Too much going on over here
StevieT ,   USA   (05.28.11)
for this little blip to change any openminded persons' viewpoint, particularly if you already have Democratic leanings. Bigger that the personalities is the jarring reeverberation we felt when the 'right of return' crash landed into the center of the Mid East discourse (where it needs to stay until all sides know its limits. Once they do, peace is just a handshake away). Obama is in a tough spot that was created by the players in and around Israel and by the recent, mindblowing speed of change that makes each day a new adventure. So I guess he is just playing for time right now, not wanting to get relegated to the dustbin while trying to figure out what will be the pieces and where will they fit after Arab Spring runs its course. Who knows, with Qaddaffi and Assad gone, Bin Laden dead, Nasrallah isolated and surrounded, Ahmadjinahad nuetered by his Elders, we could actually be at a rare juction in history where humanity will just surge forward despite the actions of their leaders. So my advice is to hold your judgements on Obama, STAY OUT OF AMERICAN POLITICS, and let the favorable currents play themselves out.
32. American Jews are dumber than one might think
Isac   (05.28.11)
To my fellow Jews: When Obama got elected thanks to you, I hardly couldn't believe that the so called "smart Jews" could so easily fall into the Obama trap. Now, let's see if the majority of Jews could be even more dumb to support the Democrats, i.e. Obama no matter what.
33. #28 Harold - I'll agree PARTIALLY
BEN JABO ,   ISRAEL   (05.28.11)
Jews are 2% of the American Population, their number doesn't indicate their influence, it's way over 2% Look at how many Jews are in Congress, Medicine, Nobel Prize Winners, etc., way beyond a meager 2% As for your claim that 90% of the Talbackers are Israeli's, do you have any proof or is that just conjecture or wishful thinking on your part ? Many of the addresses are non-Israeli, try taking a count Give your source for the latter
34. #21 Terry - very well said, thanks.
GOOD ,   USA/Israel   (05.28.11)
35. Jewish vote for obama??
Bubbe ,   USA   (05.28.11)
If the percentage if Jewish votes for that man was that high, I sincerely hope American Jewish voters mend their ways. We need a viable presidential candidate and so far absolutely not one has appeared on the horizon, IMO.
36. Barak HUSSEIN Obama
Spencer ,   Israel   (05.28.11)
Apart from the fact that Obama made a complete ass of himself on his European tour (despite the dact that he's an excellent speaker....even in the middle of G-d Save the Queesn) he showed once and for all via his body language that he has an intense dislike for Netanyahu and for Israel. When will the Jews who still favour Obama wake up and see that not only is he bad for Israel, but he's doing untold harm to the USA. I only hope and pray that #6 is correct and that by the end of 2012 Obama will be history.....
37. A better question would be: Do Israelis still support Bibi
Marcella   (05.28.11)
Do Israelis continue to support PM Netanyahu now that he has officially announced his intention to abandon most of Judea and Samaria? The shocking answer is YES. A survey carried out by Dialogue shows that 51% of the public now gives Netanyahu positive marks, compared with only 38% just a month ago. Asked about his speech before the Congress, 47% said it was a success, while 36% were not pleased with it. ~~~~~~~~~~ Netanyahu has arrogated to himself the decision of which land Jews are allowed to keep and which they will just have to give up. This is an OUTRAGE! But, to the dazzled Israelis who support him, this detail has completely escaped their attention. ~~~~~~~~~~~ The US, the EU, the UN, - and Israel as a member of the UN - are all bound by agreements regarding the land of Israel signed at the time of the League of Nations. The UN charter says so. It's not up to the governments of Israel or anywhere else to shrink Israel. International law is clear. Israel has the right to Judea, Samaria and Jerusalem. Any government that claims otherwise is in violation of international law.
38. #12; Sue, GET REAL
Mark from Georgia ,   USA   (05.28.11)
Everything is a deal, so what? When the NRA supports certain candidates it's for their reasons, the same is true of the AMA or the Pharmaceutical companies. For every Israel PAC there are 3 Arab PAC's (plus Arab PAC's have been around a lot longer) but nobody whines about it, do they? The USA imports over $400 Billion Dollars in Oil every year, OPEC gets the largest chunk of that. So to follow your logic (Money buys influence) . Who would have more influence? The Arabs with $800 Billions dollars of imported Oil on the line (every two years), or AiPAC that donates about $10 Million dollars (per 2 year election cycle). Let's see $800 Billion Dollars vs $10 Million Dollars. What do think Sue?
39. US Jews will vote for Obama. No reason not to
Sami ,   New York, USA   (05.28.11)
US Jews will vote for Obama. No reason not to.
40. #22 James is correct Abu Shlomo
Cynthia ,   USA   (05.28.11)
Prior to Cast Lead, Palestinians from Gaza barraged Israel with thousands of kassam rockets and in 2006, your buddies in Hezbollah barraged Israel with thousands of katyusha rockets. All fired at Israeli civilian populations. The threat still exists. Recently, a rocket hit an Israeli school bus killing a 16 year old boy. An example of the Palestinian peace effort. And when you refer to "constant Israeli F15 and F16 fire", how many times did that occur this year and who was the target? Look forward to your response.
41. American Jews
Steve ,   USA   (05.28.11)
As the only conservative Jew in my family (other than my like thinking wife) I've been dealing with this my entire adult life (I'm over 50 yrs old). Growing up in the 60's and early 70's in the States my family was 'liberal' minded. civil rights and the war in Vietnam were the main issues of the day (in the US). On those issues the Jews were fore and against (in that order). the plight of the blacks (being oppressed) was similar to the plight of the Jews and for this the connection was made. This put the Jew directly in confrontation with the far right (at that time). I tell him that the blacks are some of the most anti-Semitic people in America now. My Dad who is in his 90's and living in Jerusalem tells me now that he will vote for a republican this time around (for the first time). He says things like, "what the h*ll has happened to the Democrats? Have they not grown up since the 60's?" I tell him that they have 'mainstreamed' into what used to be the extreme left wing radical ideology of those days. The college kids (like my older brothers) are now the mainstay of the democrats and while the rest of the world has moved on, they have not (so much for the 'progressives'??). The world has become a much less friendly place to live in and they refuse to see this. Dad laughs when I tell him how Dems would rather sit around a campfire (wood is gathered from dead ground fall only) and sing 'kumbaya' while wearing tie-dye undershirts (under their suits) or play golf in the AM. and go to fundraisers in the evening (out of guilt for playing golf). I think it will take a miracle for the American Jews to see the light and vote Republican. As long as their 'social values' outweigh their love for Israel, there is no hope.
42. Obama? No more! I have been fooled once and
Jerry P. Samuelson ,   Kensington, MD USA   (05.28.11)
refuse to be fooled again. The reason: It has become clear to me how much the 20 some years under Rev. Wright have influenced this man.
43. Palin...really?
mea   (05.28.11)
I can assure you it would be a poor idea to elect someone just because they had your flag as a lapel pin (jason from Afula!). What if she forgets to put it on one morning? Using your process, wouldn't she be significantly less capable that day? This is a potential tipping point when you consider the woman possesses an intellect on par with a cucumber and couldn't find Israel on a map. Now you want to choose her to encounter such people as Sarkozy, Putin, Kim Jon ll...? Tell me , Jason, do you folks up there in Afula have your toddlers run the city government? No? Why is that, can't get any lapel pins?
44. the one group Obama can count on for support its the jews
zionist forever   (05.28.11)
Throughout his entire presidency some of his most die hard loyal supporters are Jews. A large part of the Democrat traditional voters are Jews and they loved Obama in 2008 and they continue to love him. Even the ones who don't like Obama personally will vote for him because he is the Democrat. The Jews love the palestinians and are die hard supporters of oslo and Obama says all the things they like to hear on peacemaking. If there is one group Obama can count on in 2012 is the Jews.
45. Obama and American Jews
Toby Dror ,   Givat Yoav   (05.28.11)
Having just comeback from the States, I am sorry to say that American Jews just don't even think about Israel. It is sad to say, but this generation of American Jews is quite different from their parents. Israel is just not an issue for them.
46. I hope so!!
jsm   (05.28.11)
I hope Jews have the good sense NOT to vote for Obama!!!
47. #44, Jews mstly are individuals, independent, liberal, savvy
Michael ,   California, USA   (05.28.11)
48. this american jew will NOT vote for obama
(05.28.11)
Obama's anti Israel stand is a deal breaker for me
49. 41Steve
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (05.28.11)
Are all Jews living in America, typical American Jews with same believes and same way of life?
50. obama
LadyLuv ,   Ohio, USA   (05.29.11)
This Jew didn't vote for him the first time and certainly won't in 2012
51. It is quite imaterial if Jews continue to support Obama or
Sam   (05.29.11)
Not. Obama does not need the Jewish vote to win. Yes, he would like the support of the Jewish money not to himself but to the democratic party and that money most likely will continue to come.
52. This Jew oted Obama last time and will again this time.
Abe ,   AZ   (05.29.11)
Talkbacks here are living in fantasy land. Obama is not anti Israel, this Israeli goverement unfortunatly is leading Israel no where. Military, political and financial US support to Israel is at all time high during Obama. He is trying to save Israel despite the stupidity of its current goverement.
53. Israel might lose the love affair
David ,   Usa   (05.29.11)
To the contrary; many American Jews are questioning their love for Israel. Not the wealthy Jews who dominate american Jewish agencies but many of we ordinary Jews who are disgusted with the intransigence of the Netanyahu government
54. He needs to pay more attention
Ypip ,   Canada   (05.29.11)
on the Gulf of Mexico, it's a mess.
55. Ed Koch, former NY mayor said today
zooog ,   US   (05.29.11)
that he will not vote for Obama but he will vote for the rest of the Democratic ticket.
56. Jews and Obama
David Zukerman ,   Bronx, USA   (05.29.11)
As someone who qualifies as --using Mike Gold's title -- a Jew without money -- I'd be interested whether Jews will ignore the adverse impact the presidenti's policies have on the U.S. economy. I'd like to know if those 80 wealthy Jews will continue to support a president whose policies expand food stamp applications, not economic opportunity for the (former) middle class. (Yes, I am on food stamps.)
57. Obama hasn't changed U.S. policy
Nick ,   NYC, USA   (05.29.11)
Obama's supposed anti-Israel stance is a lie. As Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz correctly notes, "the Republicans are simply trying to 'turn' the Jews against Obama." They are doing so through flat-out misrepresentations of Obama's positions, which are not in any significant way a departure from long-standing US policy. Right-wing Israelis are doing the same thing, and one has to wonder at their motivations. Racism seems a likely answer.
58. Will US love affair with Israel end?
crackerjack   (05.29.11)
Or can this tail wagging dog nonsense go on forever?
59. 49 Ora
Steve ,   USA   (05.29.11)
Hi Ora, of course all American Jews are not the same,.. I wish there were more of us American Jews who valued their Jewish homeland and their fellow Israeli brothers and sisters and less American Jews who are afraid to change their affiliation with the Democratic party. The party by the way that affiliates itself with the less sympathetic views towards Israel.
60. 56 David
Steve ,   USA   (05.29.11)
Don't feel alone Dave, we are also 'Jews on food stamps'. Probably not many of us around. We've both lost are jobs and even if we do find some, we will most likely loose our home anyway.. Any new jobs for us will not pay the bills in the future. Had planned on returning to Israel, but will not return as I left (broke). It can only get better! Have faith my friend.
