61. Hard to muster sympathy for the damn fool

An Israeli citizen and former paratrooper roaming around Egypt? What the Hell was he thinking? Ilan deserves a few raps upside the head for pulling a stunt like that, and doubtless he's getting plenty of that from Egyptian security & military personnel at the moment. Now his US passport will eventually pull his fool ass out of the fire at some point in the future, but he didn't use his head in this matter, and will have to learn one damn hard lesson. Talk about tempting fate!

Mikesailor, I, personally, know Ilan Grapel and he is anything but a "coward". It takes guts to be in the IDF Paratroops and Grapel was wounded in a bloody battle in Bint Jabil. He could have bled to death from his wound if he wasn't evacuated from the battlefield when he was. Why is this more "cowardly" than the majority of Americans who do not join the US Military? Grapel put his life on the line to fight a common enemy (of both America and Israel) Hizballa? NOTHING wrong with fighting for an allied army. Regarding the rest of your hot air, America allows dual citizenship with MANY other countries besides Israel (Canada, Switzerland, France, are just a few examples) and I know such dual citizens.

Naro, like Mikesailor (#28) you are full of hot air. America accepts dual citizenship with MANY countries (Israel included). There are no shortage of dual American/Candians, American/French, American/Swiss, and the list goes on dual citizens. It seems like you and your ilk only have an issue with dual American/Israeli citizens. According to AMERICAN law, Ilan Grapel did not give up US citizenship and rights, whether Naro or Mikesailor like it or not, not by becoming an Israeli citizen and not by joining the IDF.

Cameron, Israelis visiting Egypt is hardly out of the ordinary. Egypt is actually one of Israelis' favorite tourist spots (granted it is not MY cup of tea). Guess what? Virtually ALL Israelis serve in the IDF and a very high percentage of these Israeli tourists visiting Egypt have served in elite combat units. Does this make them all suspects for spying? Does this make them all stupid? I mean, there is "peace" between Israel and Egypt, right?!?!

Marine, First of all, see my responses #s 63&64.... Second of all, do you consider Ken O'Keefe http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ken_o%27Keefe a former US Marine, who served in the first Gulf War and renounced his American Citizenship to have more rights as an American citizen than Grapel? Also why is it that my friends from high-school (both Jewish and not), who served in the American Military (all branches, including the Marines) have NO issue with my being a dual citizen and having served in the IDF? Third of all, I know no small number of fellow American/Israeli dual citizens (including some of my co-workers) who served bravely in the American Military, but have made Israel their home. Believe me, they have done more for America in their three years in the American Military than those Americans who have never left America and who doest protest too much about dual citizenship.
