61. Be the bigger man
Jonathan ,   Montreal   (08.23.11)
Apologizing for the death of a fellow man does not necessarily mean that it was not the right thing to do in the moment. In many Martial arts we are taught to be stronger so that we will be able to subdue our opponents while bringing the smallest amount of harm to our opponent as possible. I hear many of you speak in anger about the "childish" actions of Egyptians. If your child were to have a tantrum and attack you with a frying pan or a kitchen knife as a responsible adult would it not be your duty to find a way to subdue the child without killing him? Should you not try to do the same for less enlightened adults? If the result is the death of another human being then yes I think an apology is definitely necessary. It would be part of your own healing and growth to acknowledge that you need to find more strength and ability to react faster, or sooner (more intel) or in some other manner that would allow you to subdue your attackers and bring about peace through your strength. Imagine if Israel was strong enough that every time she was attacked neither she nor her attackers were harmed. Eventually her attackers would run out of hatred. May God grant Israel strength and serenity.
62. It's not about honor
Zvi   (08.24.11)
In the Egyptian case, Israel accidentally killed several Egyptian conscripts in a friendly-fire incident while chasing terrorists wearing Egyptian uniforms. In the Mavi M case, Israelis killed a few violent jihadis who were trying to kill them or take them hostage. No friendly fire. No accident. Thus, apology is due to Egypt NOT because of Camp David but because it was a friendly-fire accident that killed essentially allied troops. Apology is NOT due Turkey, because the jihadis were behaving like blood enemies. It's very simple, really.
63. Why the need for an apology?
Vlad   (08.24.11)
When two US warplanes strafed a British column in Iraq and killed a soldier, or when British missiles killed two Danish soldiers in Afghanistan, did that warrant a national apology? No, so why is this any different?
64. between the lines of what is true and what is not.....
Dketerstov ,   Israel   (08.24.11)
no one can make you feel bad without your permission
65. apology to Turkey, to Egypt, to Hamas...
mary of Bethany ,   singapore   (08.24.11)
above all, apology for not dropping dead or submissively chased into Mediterranean Sea? "National honor is very important for all of us, but actual life- is more important." ??? what talking you? there are a few things that worth living and dying; TRUTH, HONOUR, RIGHTEOUSNESS, and above all, your ALMIGHTY G-D! (mind you, peace is nowhere in the line) you do what G-D wants you to do faithfully, and G-D will let you live in His way His own timing, even if not, you will be honoured in history, just like the many jewish fathers before you. so i beg to differ.
66. Egyptians took part in the attack!
Chaya ,   Tel Aviv   (08.24.11)
'Egyptians took part in attack' IDF investigation shows at least three of the terrorists that perpetrated attack near Eilat were Egyptians; clips show IDF did everything in its power to prevent Egyptian troops from getting hurt
67. Now that your own paper brought the news
m   (08.24.11)
That Egypt was involved in the attacks in Eilat, do you feel stupid? Are you going to apologize for your weak knee article, that only brings Israel to disaster?I suppose no, we are still waiting for an apology on Oslo and its destruction of 1000 Jews.
68. Haber, when you apoligize to the Israeli people
Zev ,   Israel   (08.24.11)
I will apoligize to the Egyptians.
69. Apology to Egppt
Khalid El-bendary ,   UK   (08.24.11)
Its not about apology Israel needs to understand and learn to contain/deal with the change of mode and voices around its border with other means and not its powerful air force. This is a new chapter in the Egyptian history no one wants war we need to build true friendship and in friendship we sometimes say we are sorry not because we are at wrong because we want to be friends.

Your words are good to hear. But the people living in Egypt should hear them also. It seems that, to them, Israel is still the demon.
71. Dear Amir at no.25
Neil ,   Bristol, England   (08.25.11)
Please work to change your culture and society to want to live instead of die, as this is in accordance with the real teachings of Islam, and not the delusional understanding that you and others help to perpetuate - to die for Allah at the expense of others, is not to die for Allah, it is terrorism. God help the Arab world to civilise itself - at the moment it is hard to maintain hope the way Islam is so misunderstood by people who call themselves Islamic.
72. Instead of apologizing, stop illegal settlements.
Dina ,   Egypt   (08.25.11)
Egyptians hate everything that is Israel. No apology will make that any less true, and no apology would satisfy the public. Like most of the world, Egyptians very strongly appose Israeli existence in any land gained in 1967 and onwards (mainly Gaza, West Bank and East Jerusalem), that does not legally belong to Israel. You think this is too much to ask, but for any human being with decent morals, Israel is not entitled to a cm of historic Palestine. While generally agreed upon that Jews should have a national home, especially following the devastating events at WWII and the unthinkable suffering of the Jewish people, that this should come at the expense of the Palestinians is not just. It is despicable and truly an embarrassment to the whole international community that Israel is still approving settlements in the West Bank, Gaza and East Jerusalem to this day, and moreover it is a joke when Israeli policy-makers claim to be in favor of a two-state solution, when the settlements they continually and ILLEGALLY approve are the biggest obstacle to peace. That being said, Palestinians have of course done their share of "terrorist attacks" on Israeli civilians. While these actions are condemnable and definitely not right, one must recall that according to the Geneva Convention a people living under occupation has the right to defend themselves. The point is, instead of apologizing, start working towards peace with Palestine and truly give the Palestinians a chance to have their own nation, even though you've already take more than half of it. And stop voting for ultra-zionist fuckers to govern your nation and then claim you want peace.

1. The original mandate was to include Jordan. What percentage is Israel of this? I'll let you do the math. The result is that any "Palestine" will come at the expense of the Jews, not vice versa. 2."Like most of the world..." You wish it were true. Remember that the '67 war was begun by the blockading of Eilat (an act of war), and threats of annihilation backed up by activating the armies of the surrounding arab states and others. 3. There is no "historic" Palestine. It was a name given by the Romans, long before the arabs [from arabia] conquered the area. 4. All you have to do to stop "settlement" construction is sit with Israel and agree on a peace plan. But all we hear is "no giving up of demands even after a peace accord is signed [!?], continuation of teaching children to become shahids and kill Jews”, etc. This shows your true colors. 5. Your condemnation of attacks on civilians is fluff, as shown by your following statement that "people living under occupation has the right to defend themselves". Gaza is not occupied. It is controlled by Hamas, not Israel. 6. The point is your post has lots of holes in it as you are unwilling to look yourself and "Palestinians" in a mirror; the reality is different than your 'lofty' words.
74. Nope
John   (08.26.11)
national honor is more important because that is where you gain the legitimacy for the agreement in the first place.
