31. Welcome! Turkish sailors are sooooo cute!
Brian Cohen ,   Judean Peoples Front   (09.15.11)
Let's roll out the red carpet and invite the Turkish navy to Haifa for some R and R! Is Besiktas due in Tel Aviv for a rubber match with Maccabi TA?
32. Turkey makes weapons system see Israel as hostile
William ,   Israel   (09.15.11)
ok, then we'll destroy those weapons systems the same way we do to those of other enemies. So what? After all, we did build them so we know how to screw them up, too.
33. "Turkey can deploy navy in E. Med at moments notice"
William ,   Israel   (09.15.11)
I hope the next question from the audience is "so where the hell were they when we were fighting our despotic leaders trying to gain freedom from oppression, and only the West came to our aid??"
34. #2, #7 - all Arab despots follow this equation
William ,   Israel   (09.15.11)
From Nasser to Saddam, to Arafat and Nasrallah - Erdogan is following a successful equation for Arab leadership in the region. 1) find an enemy and present them to the region as the worst scourge ever 2) create a fictitious incident that will solidify your claims that this enemy is threatening the world 3) proclaim your desire for Pan-Arab values 4) present yourself as the answer to defeat this enemy and lead the Arab world forward in peace and prosperity according to your divine insight. And at the end of the day, either Israel takes them down, or the other Arab tribes vying for power do.
35. Will Erdogan up the ante by boarding an Israeli ship?
William ,   Israel   (09.15.11)
I wonder if Turkey will be stupid enough to board an Israeli commercial ship in the E. Med, claiming he is only doing what Israel did to the Turks. This would be a real act of piracy but Erdogan already showed he doesn't agree with Intl law that doesn't help his agenda.
36. This how to come in the EU
Robert ,   Vienna   (09.15.11)
Just a scenario: 1 - Turkey attach Israel 2 - Israel want to kick back but the US won't let to! 3 - bankrupt greek kicks turkeys ass and winn the war! 4 - Whole Turkey belongs to greek 5 - at the End former Turkey - now new Greece - is in the EU! :)
37. Israeli Navy arrogance challenged 4m after the 67 war
observer ,   Egypt   (09.15.11)
on 21 October 1967, INS Eilat was sunk off Port Said in the Sinai by two missiles launched by small Egyptian missile boats. Israel asked the International Control Forces to let the Israeli planes rescue the destroyer crew from drowning. Egypt agreed not to interfere the rescue process which happened on the lights of planes, and did not take that advantage to kill the rest of the Israeli force.
38. Islam and Democracy are CONTRADICTORY
Richard ,   Boca Raton, USA   (09.15.11)
Erdogan is one pussy-whipped fool who, I understand, is married to a Palestinian. Can you imagine the pressure she put on this poor schmuck. To decry that Islam and Democracy are not contradictory is absurd beyond words.
39. Erdogan is desperate...
Vlad   (09.15.11)
To provoke Israel. He wants a confrontation with Israel, but his bluster didn't get him the response he hoped, so now he's stepping it up.
40. #13 - Turkey will not be released from NATO
William ,   Israel   (09.15.11)
They just placed an early-warning radar system there, and Iran is visibly pissed-off. The West will continue to use Turkey as a jumping point to the Middle East, while allowing Turkey to pound Kurds in Iraq and taunt Israel, within reason.
41. #17 - Don't you mean "No Israeli 'piracy' anymore?"
William ,   Israel   (09.15.11)
Because Israel is a real entity (has been for a long time, and steeped in history), but the piracy was fabricated per your own agenda and manipulation of a straight-forward intl law. Just a mis-place of quotes on your part.
42. This isn't even about Israel anymore
William ,   Israel   (09.15.11)
This is the result of a changing reality in the Middle East and the Arab tribes each fighting for a place of power and wealth in tomorrow's region. Israel is just the punching bag, as usually. Arab despots are trying to hold on to power and blame "Zionists" for issues in their countries. Other leaders claim to be the new prophet and will lead Arab Middle East to the new enlightened age. All claim to be friends of the "Palestinians" yet treat those hosted in their respective countries like crap. Now Abdallah is rattling his sword against Israel. Why? Not because he hates Israel but because he knows how fragile his kingdom is under the parasitic threat of "Palestinians". All of this Arab rhetoric is common over the past 1400 years, and is not about Israel. It's about those trying to gain power and those trying to hold on to power.
43. #9 ot
solomon ,   bklyn   (09.15.11)
It's good to hear your words of friendship. I have Turkish friends, and we agree with your statements about the close Israel-Turkey relationship. I disagree, however, with your comment that the US backs Israel as a consequence of money influencing politicians. There are those, as there are those who hate Israel. But US backing is strongly based on intangibles eg democracy, as well as practicality; the US has helped Israel, Israel has also helped the US (intelligence, battle testing weapons, technology, etc.) There is a stronger base here than you think, and not based on money.
44. Turkey is a NATO member and cannot do what it wants!!!!
Anna M Sedda ,   Rome-Italy   (09.15.11)
..and because of the NATO membership,he has obligations to follow NATO rules, not Islamic rules... NATO members win Europe suold look carefully of Turkish arrogance and expel Turkey if it does not comply to NATO rules.... Any aggression to Israel is immotivated and European members should watch at Turkey eight now
45. To Nr 2 and 11.
Arn. ,   Sweden.   (09.15.11)
Alois Irlmeyer., Bavarian seer., dead in 1959 nas predicted - What causes the war? "Everything calls peace, Schalom! Then it will occur - a new Middle East war suddenly flames up, big naval forces are facing hostility in the Mediterranean - the situation is strained. But the actual firing spark is set on fire in the Balkan: Comment - well - we will see ?. Arn.Sweden.
46. HAHAHAHA...
shiras   (09.15.11)
my dear friend, turkey is not Gaza.and Isreal knows that very well that......that is why they are silent.....
47. Tukey
I have one ,   USA   (09.15.11)
Blah, Blah, Blah!
48. What would NATO do if
Oleg ,   USA   (09.15.11)
there is a conflict between Turkey and Israel? Don't they see, that having Turkey as an ally can give them a lot of trouble. NATO was created against Soviets, now when USSR is gone, shouldn't they get rid of some idiots, like Erdogan? He is bringing Western counties into a conflict.
49. #17 Slama- You are an Anti Semitic, Anti jews
Andre Lajst ,   Tel Aviv   (09.15.11)
Everything that ynet posts, any news about Israel you are against, even when the UN the most nominated groups of human rigths are in the side of israel, you cannot assume that that time or this time we are rigth. By that, you prove you HATE jews, you are a anti Semitic ,and you don say because its not politicaly correct. You should go out from europe, this is not your land, go to jordan. the real palestinian state. Shame on you .
50. Erdbert
Ber ,   Yahud   (09.15.11)
Why dont you shake down the Kurds for some lunch money. Then give Cyprus a swirly in the cafeteria wc at lunch time. At recess pull ahmadinjad's hair to let "her" know that she is gross and you don't like her.... At night Put Israeli defense secrets under ur pillow and maybe the diplomatic treachery fairy will leave you a dollar.
51. ERDOGAN MILITARY PAST
Mark ,   T.a. Israel   (09.15.11)
HE MADE THE SACRED MILITARY SERVICE IN A OFFICER'S CANTEEN AS AN ACCOUNTANT ! HIS TWO SONS EVADED FROM THIS SACRED DUTY ! HE PUT IN JAIL ALL THE TALENTED GENERALS ! HE BEHAVES LIKE HUMEYNI WHO ORDERED THE EXECUTION OF HIS TOP MILITARY PERSONEL AND THE IRANIANS WAGE WAR AGAINST IRAK FOR 7 YEARS WITH NO VICTORY ! AS HE IS FOLLOWING THE SAME TACTIC OF HUMEYNI WE CAN EASILY PREDICT. THAT HE WILL BE A LOSER AND THIS WILL PRECIPITATE HIS DOWNFALL !
52. #43, Solomon
OT ,   NYC   (09.15.11)
Shalom & Merhaba. While I understand your point that there are issues other than money influencing US/Israel relations, I feel the matter still comes down [primarily] to economics and financials. In the matter of intelligence/military partnership, it is certainly of great strategic import to the US to have a Middle Eastern ally. This, however, is driven primarily by the goals of influence and leverage in the region toward cheap oil. There is also the facet of Judeo-Christian influence on politicians. The evangelical right believes in Israel's existence as a Biblical matter, not a practical one. Regardless, my deeper point is that there is a respect and appreciation for Jews in most Turkish society that is driven by no factor other than having coexisted for centuries. Unforunately, those progressive Turks that share these views have lost their voice to the current cadre of politicians.
53. Okay ....
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (09.15.11)
... so Turkish warships can deploy in the Eastern Mediterranean "at any moment." Apart from the fact that I highly doubt that statement to be true, here's a news flash: Israeli submarines with nuclear warheads can deploy in the Aegean at a moment's notice. Hell -- they are probably already there! How do you like THEM apples, Erdogan?
54. To: No. 37
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (09.15.11)
Do you remember how Israel paid you back, asshole? Look it up.
55. To: No. 36
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (09.15.11)
Are you serious? Do you think that Israel seeks approval from the United States on existential issues? Sometimes we may inform the United States, sometimes we may not .... but the only country that deals with Israeli existential issues is Israel. I assure you that if Turkey attacks Israel, Israel will not check with Washington D.C. before responding with extremely deadly force.
56. To: William at No. 35
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (09.15.11)
Can you imagine the world of hurt that would descend upon Turkey were that to happen?
57. Last Turkish naval battle was fought when?
Stephen in New York   (09.15.11)
Israel fought and won the world’s first naval missile battle in 1973. The Turks have heavier ships, but the Israelis have unique technology. Israel can deal with everything, but the cost remains to be seen.
58. Not so simple.
Gabe ,   Canada   (09.15.11)
Turkey is a NATO member. An attack on Turkey is an attack on all NATO members. This fact makes Erdogan so aggressive.
59. erdogans mouthfull
Beary White ,   Norway   (09.15.11)
This little man believes he is the leader of all arab contries, and producing shit like the one he has left up in the three. Erdogan, climb up in the three again where amhadinejad is sitting and is spreading the shit...onto the world.
60. No Peace
shlomo   (09.15.11)
Israel has never been at peace with its neighbours. Not since 1948, Not for thousands of years. It does not know how. It does not want to. It wants all of Gaza and the West Bank. And the Golan. And Syria. And Lebabnon. And...................
