1. "Decay" means something was whole to begin with...?!!
tom ,   tel aviv   (09.20.11)
2. I assume
Bar ,   Everywhere   (09.20.11)
that this article is in the newspaper's opinion section? Cause it is very biased.
3. Blind racist Jews can't see their own crimes
Steve Benassi ,   Silver Bay, MN USA   (09.20.11)
4. UN = Unless Nobody
mary of Bethany ,   singapore   (09.20.11)
UN = Unless Nobody! "Unless" because they can't achieve anything talks after talks. "Nobody" because they are just nobody infront of the arab countries, that arab countries can blackmail them. nothing short of blackmailing from rich arab oi! so whatever Unless Nobody approve and accept as membership, also doesn't matter.
5. It is not proof of decay,
boris ,   nyc, us   (09.20.11)
it is proof of the fact that each country have there own interests, it is proof of jewish stupidity: win all wars against arabs and sede her own land. Israel agreed with creation of new nation of arabs - "palestinians", with establishment of "palestinian" authority and with new land of "west bank" on place of Judea and Samaria. now israel will have to win another war to survive.
6. What Prosor Sees
Leon   (09.20.11)
Prosor sees agreement that there must be negotiations but does he also see the world wide agreement that Israel must stop expropriating Palestinian lands and expanding illegal settlements before there can be any honest negotiations. Does Prosor only see what he believes benefits Israel and assigns as unworthy motives to anyone who sees anything at odds with Israel's scheme of trying to change things by creating new 'facts on the ground" before sitting down to negotiate?
7. That's what Japan said in the 1930's...
Edward ,   Sydney, Australia   (09.20.11)
when it left the League of Nations. The world didn't recognise the de facto Japanese state of Manchukuo because the Chinese claimed that the land belonged to China. When the League of Nations voted against Japan's illegal occupation of north-east China which Japan claimed to have a divine right to control, Japan was outraged and left.
8. This comes from the foundation of the UN
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (09.20.11)
They allowed in every two bit dictatorship and thug in the world and gave them the same vote as America. Time to announce that the UN is worthless, throw them out of New York City and form an assembly of democracies only and any country that is not rated as 'free' cannot be admitted.
9. Palestine is fictional and the U.N. will soon be defunct.
Chaim ,   Israel   (09.20.11)
The author makes many valid points. The Palestine statehood bid is nothing but a charade. And a very poorly choreographed charade at that, given that Hamas (which is far more powerful than Abbas' P.A.) opposes the bid. Even the 1988 Palestine fiasco wasn't as ludicrous as the present statehood bid. Palestine is forever fictional. The U.N., as the author notes, has lost it's last vestige of credibility. Democratic nations are already seriously pondering whether to continue funding it. It will soon be defunct like the League of Nations before it.
10. why ?
jasmin ,   jerusalem   (09.20.11)
both are laughing ..sure it is not fore th same joke
11. Steve Benassi - we use you as our example!
Brian Cohen ,   Judean Peoples Front   (09.20.11)
Racist? Crimes? What racism and what crimes? I like Steve Benassi, the American, who stole and entire continent from its rightful owners, slaughtered the natives by the hundreds of thousands (if not millions), imprisoned them on "reservations", stole their resources from them, and had millions of black slaves doing Steve Benassi's dirty work. What a great example for us to follow, Steve! As I recall from history, it only took Steve Benassi's America two centuries before Americans finally started getting over their institutionalized racism and allowed their black and native American citizens to vote, let alone hold office or ride on the bus with the same whities who live in Silver Bay. But like your founding fathers, Steve Benassi, I support your right to write what you want, so long as it doesn't cross any legal lines. Why a person like you from a remote place like Silver Bay is such an expert on muddle east affaris is, well, pretty astounding, wouldn'tcha say? Especially coming from a successful settler like you on occupied Native American land that you stole.
12. The PA will be worse off after Friday
michael redbourn ,   Arad Israel   (09.20.11)
Will the PA recognize Israel as a Jewish State? Will Israel (the world) agree to Jews being removed from a new Muslim State? Seems like the answer to both the above is "no", so where should negotiations start? If he asks for recognition then the US and some other countries will cease funding and Israel will probably declare Oslo dead and buried. And if he doesn't ask then he will have trouble on the streets.
13. UN, the protector of lives & human values
tiki ,   belgium   (09.20.11)
Arab presure & private agenda's, high paying UN jobs? Is this the case in this unique, non biased, humanistic organisation? Of course it is!!!!!! Stop talking but '''NAME & SHAME''' them!!!! If THEY are not ashamed, why should Israel. If THEY are looking out for their own personal agenda's, so should Israel!
14. excellent analysis-what alternatives?
moshe ,   jerusalem   (09.20.11)
15. Not a charade but a Pantomime!
Sammy ,   Newcastle   (09.20.11)
As long as Hamas and that oaf Pretty Boy Mashaal have such a grip on power in Gaza there is no way any peace process can move forward. Hamas DO NOT WANT PEACE WITH ISRAEL. THEY DO NOT EVEN WANT ISRAEL What Hamas want is to maintain their stranglehold on Gaza keep Gazans in poverty and fear whilst amassing vast wealth for themselves Anyone care to guess just how much PRETTY BOY MASHAAL has stashed away? You will be SHOCKED To Gaza we say Your time WILL come. You WILL be free To Hamas and Mashaal we say As for all traitors - Your time WILL come To Abu Mazin we say: The UN vote may add some urgency to negotiations. Take up Natanyahus challenge - and get down to some serious negotiating for East Palestine NOW. East Palestine wills you on
16. #12
Israel Israeli ,   Tel Aviv   (09.20.11)
Since his election, Netanyahu has made major concession to Abbas for nothing. A complete building freeze in Judea and Samaria, violent delegitimization of Judea and Samaria and helping massive (legal and illegal) Arab building including Rawabi (better known as Bibiville). I hope I am wrong, but I won't be surprised if Netanyahu brings Zippy into the coalition instead of Lieberman and starts negotiating Israel's terms of surrender to Abbas.
17. #6, which is why those states need to be threatened
Danny   (09.20.11)
to agree with the Palestinian position.
18. #7, and look how effective the League was....
Danny   (09.20.11)
19. To: Gee at No. 8
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (09.20.11)
Hear, hear. You should see how traffic got screwed up this morning. Why does the ambassador from Mali need a police escort, anyway?
20. Sarah B #19
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (09.20.11)
So he doesn't get lost?
21. Speak With One Voice or the Consequences
Noah Lev ,   HollywoodUSa   (09.20.11)
To Chaim: well said. For decades, the saying, "get the UN out of the US and the US out of the UN", has been said over and over again by Americas right., to no avail. I dont want to put all the blame on US Jews, but they in the main, support and have supported the UN. Jewish liberalism ( and naivety) has replaced Torah. in which Jews fought and killed their enemies. A Floridea Congressperson recently proposed that the US refine its donations to the UN, depending on certain conditions. I would go further, we should force a change in the UN charters, not as an arbiter, or decider (UNSC), but for humanitarian purposes only. Henry Kissinger put it right, when he said that the UN is ineffective..its the large nations, or blocks of nations, whose decisions have credibility. As Bibi said, if the Pals proposed that "the sun sets in the West", the UN would approve. The UN did not approve our Iraqi involvement, yet we invaded. It did not approve the Korean intervention,,yet we went in (?Russia was absent). Russia and China now are precluding any intervention in Syria, their client state. As the pop. of the plaent increases @70m year, the UN will become less relevant and even an obstacle. The World Bank is set up to finance pooer countries. The EU is aiding its own members. There is an African Union AND an Arab League. Why should the US be the court of last resort? Ron Paul is right, we must not be the world's policeman. We should also not be the worlds financier. Our rcountry is bankrupt, out internal and external debt greater than our revenue.
22. # 4 UN = Unless nobody (Mary of Bethany)
Moragh   (09.20.11)
I'd rather call it.....(Mary of Bethany) UNITED NOBODIES! Not for one moment do I consider any member except the decency of Israel where I could say there was as little as ONE country whom I could call a friend to Israel, or would even consider being a friend of mine. If ever I saw a group of loathesome imbiciles it most certainly is the members of the UN. I'd sooner lie down and die if I thought for one moment my husband; brother or Father was a member of such filth. Sorry fellas, but in my eyes you most certainly are the dreck of the world. Even the Palestinians would look like gold (excluding the hamas circus clowns) standing beside memers of the so-called UN. Loathesome, loathesome ignoramuses!
23. To: Gee at No. 20
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (09.20.11)
Oh, yeah. My tax dollars hard at work. Love it. The thing is, in Mali, the ambassador probably lives in a hut with wall-to-wall dirt floors. A far cry from the grandeur of a New York City town house. Why do we even tolerate this? Let the U.N. go to Geneva. The Swiss deserve nothing less ....
24. #12. Abbas will likely seek sancturary in a Western nation..
Chaim ,   Israel   (09.20.11)
#12. You make many valid points. Abbas is a very stupid man. He has roused hopes among "Palestinian" youth he has absolutely no chance of satisfying. And we all know what "Palestinian" youth do when they're disappointed. I wouldn't want to be in Abbas' shoes when the statehood scam blows sky high. Abbas will likely seek sanctuary in a Western nation. On top of that, Abbas' fictional statehood bid has aroused all of Judea and Samaria, and the vast majority of Israel and Israel's friends to assert Jewish rights, to our land, like never before. We are about to see a huge upsure in Jewish patriotism in Israel as a result of the Palestine scam.
25. #20 Zikron Yaakov
Moragh   (09.20.11)
coming from MALI, he must be LOST!
26. #23 & #25
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (09.21.11)
Gotta cut him some slack. I have been to New York City - man is it easy to lost in those canyons. Little Zikron Yaakov and Mali now that's another matter entirely ;)
27. Only BIG ISRAEL can bring balance and freedom to ME.

30. Brian relating to Steve

Would never normally agree with this zealot, but for once he's hit Steve's nail right on his poncy WASP head.
