norbus ,   Jerusalem   (12.04.11)

Get Real Obama. you have secured the worst President slot for at least the next 200 Years. Go back to Jeremiah Wright after yopu get the brush off by the US electorate
62. You're missing the point
Stuart ,   London, UK   (12.04.11)
What you say may be points out Clinton's past actions however it doesn't negate her argument - the segregation of women is abhorrent in today's society, and shame on anyone who thinks it isn't!
63. Lot of people on this talkback
Chris   (12.04.11)
saying normal decent Israelis will not tolerate segregation on buses, or banning women from singing. However these things are already happening in Israel and they have done nothing about it. In fact the government is enabling it. In that case Clinton ha the duty to warn Israel that the way Israeli civil society and the direction the government is going is making Israel unsupportable as the supposedly only democratic country in the Middle East.
64. #62 it is you who is missing the point.
Mike ,   Raanana Israel   (12.04.11)
Segregation of women is wrong in a bus or anywhere else, however this does not mean Israel is segregating women in anyway as Clinton implies it is only a very small area in a paticular city, regardless it is wrong and will not be allowed by any group here in Israel, however Clinton should not worry about Israeli democracy and should worry about her own. Has she closed the borders with Mexico yet or for that matter has she granted 20mil mexicans in the US the right to medical care or education???
65. Until recently, a strong supporter of the Democratic party,
Josh ,   South Palm Beach, FL   (12.04.11)
but with the endless attacks by Mr. Obama and his cabinet members on the only ally we have in the region, and for no good reason, I begin to wonder whether the person for whom I voted and for whose campaign I contributed a lot of my hard earned money is actually a friend or a foe. I have no intention to vote Obama, and certainly not to contribute to his campaign any time soon based on the evidence.
66. Clinton, Panetta = Obama
john ,   Beverly Hills, CA   (12.04.11)
Please people understand that in the usa officials make these comments because they know it will please the master, in this case obama, should obama win, the world will see the biggest anti semite yet.
67. But Muslim women's rights are just fine... right?
Bad assed Jew. ,   United States   (12.04.11)
good gawd, this woman is delusional if she points to Israel as an abuser of human rights when only gawd knows how many muslim women are raped, maimed, be headed, murdered in what they call 'honor killings' not to mention the 'female circumcision' that no one speaks of for its barbarity. The Saudi's got their money's worth with hiring this biatch and her player hubby. She's about as popular as the clap.
68. Clinton is starting to look like Helen Thomas...
Bad assed Jew. ,   United States   (12.04.11)
69. Is she still the smartest woman in...
Gideon Reader   (12.04.11)
...the world? Sure. Of course she is. Just like ZerObama is the smartest man. Except for Bill Clinton. (Groin barely twitching) Watching the clock. Time will cure the problem. Wait. Just wait. And,...OUTLIVE these crass, crude and stupid polititurds. Her fugly child Chelsea Hubble is self limiting.
70. America is the one taking away democracy
Aryeh ,   Bat Ayin   (12.04.11)
In a move that would make Joseph Stalin proud, Arizona Senator John McCain has joined Michigan’s Carl Levin in crafting a section of a bill designed to take away our rights to face an accuser and have a fair trial before being placed in prison. A section of S. 1867 The National Defense Authorization Act bill, written by McCain and Levin would in effect give the President arrest powers. It would authorize the Chief Executive to order our military personnel to forcibly- if necessary- take any one, regardless of guilt or innocence, into custody without charges or a trial.
71. The biggest problems in Western countries are
Yael Schlichting ,   Raubling - Germany   (12.04.11)
1. Having an opinion, without knowing anything. 2. Shouting out loud coupled with maximum cluelessness
72. Restrictive laws are good for us
ZionistBecky ,   Israel   (12.04.11)
They reflect how G-d made each of us differently. So I can't sit where I want to on a bus in Israel. So what? What does this matter in the eyes of G-d? Oh, and #64, great point! The US shouldn't be criticizing us until those in the US feed, educate, and provide other benefits to every person who has illegally snuck into the US.
73. The Clintons are promoting POLYGAMY in the States!
Jouko ,   Finland   (12.04.11)
74. Foreign interference.....
Shalom ,   U.S.A.   (12.04.11)
is a democratic principle? Israel has the right to protect itself against destructive policies.
75. The post at No. 48 is not mine
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (12.04.11)
Obviously.
76. To: No. 57
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (12.04.11)
Do you really think the post at No. 48 was composed by me? More fool you. By the way, it's "too," not "to."
77. Ask yourself: Why does she even bother with this?
Disgusting but.... ,   Israel   (12.04.11)
1) Because she deals too much with people like Tzipi (don't make me gag) Livni 2) Israeli politicians and people in general are WEAK. Only Israel is safe to focus on and bash (for every little thing) because we take it
78. Gross distortion
Reuven Sure ,   Herzlia Israel   (12.04.11)
However ugly extreme religious discrimination may be, this is still a small minority phenomenon. To bring up Rosa Parks and Iran is insane, particularly in a public forum, and by no less than the US secretary of state.
79. Clinton's remarks
Simon Soesan ,   Haifa   (12.04.11)
How interesting! Israeli ministers reacting to Mrs. Clinton remarks really show their understanding of friendship and friendly advice. It seems that the Likud ministers forgot they never were elected for government, as Likud lost the 2009 elections. Mr. Netanyahu talked his way into government by claiming the vote went to the rightist block, after which he came up with a rightist coalition - with the Labour Party. It seems that the ministers mentioned in this report forgot their own office is not really functioning: Haifa is stil choking on pollution that Erdan cannot stop as the owners of these plants are friends of Mr. Netanyahu. Mr. Ishai seems to forget his office is not able to supply any democratic solution for housing, as he is obliged to listen to a demented rabbi who compares women to donkeys. All in all, Mrs. Clinton gave a friendly advise, and she needs no proof how deep her friendship for our country goes. We, the taxpayers in this country, still await for proof of Mr. Netanyahu's leadership and integrity.
80. The growth of the ultra orthodox problem
Adam ,   Ramat-Gan   (12.04.11)
Whilst Clinton's statements were a bit obtuse in their comparisons to segregation in the deep South before civil rights and a hard line theocracy like Iran, Israel IS being affected more and more by the religious lobby. After promising, when Israel was created, to 'keep out of politics' to Ben Gurion in return for limited funding, they have gone back on both parts of this with their continuing political lobbying and ability to be a 'kingmaker' post-election time, resutling in excessive funding for Torah scholars. Israel is facing a demographic shift as hard working, secular Israelis, are being 'oubred' by Haredim and other similar religious groups, supported by our hard earned taxes. Whilst we worry about being able to support 1 to 3 children, the Haredim are happy to knock out 6, 7 or more without a thought to financial cost. Incidents like 'segregation' on buses; women and the 'non-religious' being treated as second class citizens and IDF soldiers (thanks for making the effort to not read the Torah instead) walking out when female soldiers sing, will continue to grow. Something needs to be done now about the problems with the Orthodox. Cut funding; they need to work, not leech; follow values of our secular, Westernised democracy or Clinton's remarks may be on the mark more and more in the coming years.
81. ALL of these people are trying to nullify Torah.
Devorah   (12.04.11)
"Give away the land G-D gave to you." "Be a doormat for those trying to kill you." "We know what's better for you than your G-D," etc., etc., etc. They are doing the same thing to Christians in the U.S. and around the world. Christians are now considered "terrorists" in the U.S. And, oh, slaughter the Copts in Egypt? In Darfur? So what? These are G-D haters and lovers of evil, and may they reap what they sow.
82. Has Clinton checked the Knesset?
Rick ,   Lake Placid, USA   (12.04.11)
So, in the US's 112th Congress, there are 445 male and 93 female members. In the Knesset, there are 96 male members and 24 female members. Do the math, Hillary! If you divide the number of Congressional members by the number of its female members, you get a ratio of 5.78 males to every female. If you do the same with the Knesset, you get 5 males for every female member. So the Knesset almost is the same as the US Congress in it's ratio of elected female members! So I have to wonder where Mrs. Clinton is deriving her information from!
83. Rosa Parks was NOT a matter of religious modesty.
Robert Blum ,   New Albany USA   (12.04.11)
Clinton is far removed from any climate of observant Judaism, where women are designated their own obligations and men are designated their own obligation. For example, men NOT women must form a quorum for prayer. Men must wear phylacteries every day except the Sabbath, etc., men read from the Torah on the Sabbath, NOT women. Why? It is not a matter of women being less equal than men in a negative way. On the contrary, men sinned by praying to the golden calf, women did not, so only men must form a quorum and only men must wear phylacteries. Women are deemed more spiritually lofty. Men do not have monthly menses cycle experiences, requiring both physical and spiritual (by means of mikvah submersion), baths. So because of the possibility that a woman may at any given time be in a state of unfinished menses cycle, hence spiritual and physical uncleanliness, men are separated from women. There is nothing sexist about this Jewish social configuration within the definition of being condescending. Juda-ism has survived all of the social trends for thousands of years, each of which was 'modern' thinking in its own time. Clinton should refrain from treading on Jewish understanding of how our religious order must be conducted, and as a proven anti-Israeli and pro-Arafat-anti-Jew, she should also refrain from pretending that she is an even-handed politician. In fact, it is my hope and certainly the hope of many, that she refrain from politics completely, along with Barak Hussein Obama, the Muslim president of a once united and free country!
84. What Clinton does not understand...
Maurice ,   Montreal   (12.04.11)
...is that these segregation policies are not state practices. They are applied by certain circles (like in the ultra-religious neighbourhoods in Jerusalem) to their own people. Otherwise, in Israel women can go and live any way they want. Just look at the women in Tel Aviv, Rihson, Haifa or Eilat. They would make European women look conservative! Saying that their rights are limitied by undemocratic laws are ridiculous. Clinton should compare women in Tel Aviv with women in Teheran before making such a stupid comparison. I don't agree with the religious segration seen in the ultra-religious sectors, but that by no means represents what is the norm in Israel. Clinton is once again showing her stupidity! Hard to believe she holds such a high position.
85. Clintons now part of dhimmi-led assault on Israel
Dean ,   Canada   (12.04.11)
Ms. Clinton, Obama and Leon Panetta have been very busy these past few days conducting an assault on Israel. Obama is looking to justify his undeserved Nobel Peace price or for a future as UN Secretary General. They are treating Israel like they would never do to the Islamist states or the Hamas and Hezbollah terror organizations. These leftists think that by pressuring Israel into in-defensibility and non-existence that they will get big paychecks from Saudis when their political careers are over - which cannot happen soon enough!
86. Genuine concern
olavi ,   espoo, finland   (12.04.11)
Israel shoild respect the statemet of Clinton. There is danger the country slides to undemocratic direction and is narrowing arabs and russians. The trend is dangerous. In long run it will ruin Israel as high tech country and turning toward theocracy where only low IQ (IQ less than 80) people will be satisfied. Then the future in gone.
87. Clinton
Martin Gray ,   United States   (12.04.11)
Clinton ought to worry a lot more about American Democracy and finding answers as to why the current administration is laundering millions in drug money via the DEA and running thousands of guns to the Mexican cartels through the ATF and then lying about it to Congress.
88. I'm hardly the greatest defender of Israel,
Christobal ,   Dallas, US of A   (12.04.11)
and I've had my issues with the good Sec. of State of these here United states, even if I admire her as an astute pol. But Israel did have a female Prime Minister from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Hill, god love ya, I doubt you'll be our first female Prez, and you still have your following. But as of now, all our heads of state/government, which is the Prez in bold, have been men, men, and more men.
89. I worry about the US women rights and democracy
(12.04.11)
Look at those MILLIONS of American Muslims who treat their women - wives, sisters and daughters - like breeding cattle and slave objects. Look at those Orthodox American Jewish women treating their women like the Muslims above (less the female circumcision and "honor killings" of course). Look at those Mormons with their harems of uneducated and abused women. Look at all those Catholic Priests raping boys and girls! Look at the obscene and deceiving ultra-Anarchist media blindly serving the corrupt Democratic (multi-millionnaire) Czars. The only place on Earth where media has been so deeply inside the ruling politicians' pockets (and ass*s was USSR. One cannot voice an opinion or state a position opposed with Obama's Party Line without being demonized and chastisized by a horde of self-hating "progressive house Jews" and spineless servants from the likes of NY Times, Boston Globes, CNN, NPR, NBC and ABC - and this is a minuscule example of the dogs packs blindly serving the current immoral and suicidal US Administration. And yet, Hitlery Clinton "genuinely" worries about Israel's future because of "freedom of press and women rights in Israel!" At least her womanizing husband sits quiet, most probably embarrassed by hs wife's Testosterone-induced arrogant rants. What a pathetic, petty and spineless political demagogue! Obama can thank her for wasting a few more tens of thousands of Jewish votes less than one year away from the next Presidential Elections.
90. To #83
M. Hartley ,   Atlanta, US   (12.04.11)
Although I don't subscribe to any religion, your tb sounded reasonable coming from a believer until <....hence spiritual and physical uncleanliness........> Based on your tb, I must assume that you believe in God. If that is correct, where in the hell do you get off to judge any aspect of the way God created women as "unclean???" That attitude sounds a lot more spiritually "unclean" than women having their periods. Do you honestly believe that God made women a certain way only to turn around and imply that, oh well, I must have goofed, because half the time they're "unclean?" Better give that some thought. What if it turns out that God is as much female as male, or do you now, also, know the nature of God???
