1. Things need to change...
Eli   (01.02.12)
Good Article. It's TIME for Israel to leave the US. Israel has for too long been too depended on the US which is now is a sinking titanic wreck. Economically they're a mess. The US has 50 million people on food stamps, their citizens are preparing for a police state. Unemployment is getting worst, etc The Judaic-Christian alliance is a unnecessary alliance, that needs to end since it has no substantial relevance to Jews other than a symbolic reference for Christians. A small christian community in Israel is fine although they can't even get along, just look at the bust up at the church of Nativity, and so to align with 50 million Evangelical Christians is a insult to the Torah. Some of the things these Evangelical Christians do and say is insulting.
2. TUCC
Uncle Samuel ,   USA   (01.02.12)
One should view Trinity United Church of Christ as an arm of the Muslim Brotherhood and its evangelical message and purpose is Islamic spread and conquest. TUCC has nothing whatever to do with Jesus or His Gospel or with the Torah, Statutes, Commandments, or of G-D's redemption and deliverance of Israel. Nothing to do with good will, righteousness, justice, freedom, peace and joy in union with the Holy G-D of Love, Truth and Life. Islam, through many teachers and benefactors, has educated, shaped and put Obama where he is. Every move he makes is orchestrated and coordinated to achieve Islam's goals. It would be naive and foolish to believe otherwise.
3. Thank you, Mr. Meotti...you have indeed
Israeli 2   (01.02.12)
written what comes from your heart and what is true. We as Jews have gone through a lot of persecution just by being Jews. We have kissed ass alot just to avoid being persecuted. But this is no more. Those who are our true friends will this time have to show it to us all the way and not falter. We do not kiss ass anymore...to no one. This time, Mr. Meotti, we shall lead and those who want to follow us may well find their way behind us. We truly appreciate your support but please do not expect anything in return. We are done with that.
4. Mr. Meotti:
Israeli 2   (01.02.12)
What I really wanted to say is that we truly appreciate the support of our friends but it is in our GOD we trust and not in Evangalical Jews or anyone else.
5. Sadly Israel Gov't aids them right here
David Aarons ,   Jerusalem Israel   (01.02.12)
As an Israeli tour guide I can attest to several instances of the Israeli government Ministry of Tourism aiding and abetting anti Israel sentiment among thousands of visitors right here in Israel either through ignorance or indifference .One example is the gov promoted tourist site in Nazareth called "Nazareth Village" a suposed reprodction of ancient Nazareth where the Arab Chrisitian guides and their American staff of Mennonites who are virently anti Israel often insert anti Judaic and anti Israel propaganda while guiding groups and although supported on the goverment website as a site to be visited they have deleted their Hebrew from their answering machine they also work together with the govenment promoted "Jesus Trail' and book containing anti Israel propagnada which was put together by the Israeli Nature Society with the Mennonites.
6. There r Christians & then there r Christians
Miffed ,   Israel   (01.02.12)
Mostly a good article. 1)Many people/groups call themselves Christians. But just because u call yourself something does not make u it. Inexcusable past history of persecution to the Jews was by so-called Christians. Spirit filled believers would never do that. 2)The first believers were all Jews. G_d only made one way to heaven and that was by the covering of sins by blood. Belief in Jesus as the Messiah does not make u a Christian. As a Jew, u r still a Jew but r now saved from your sins and will go to heaven. As a Gentile, u r still a Gentile, also saved, but are now grafted into the branch of the Jewish Messiah. The two now one!
7. No More
Barak   (01.02.12)
This may sound harsh but the fact is for the majority of Jews we don't like this alliance nor do we want for it to continue. We believe it does more harm than good for our image, and we are better off without it. If Christians want to support Israel that's there chose but we should not recognize it. We become very uncomfortable when we see Christians come from the US to Israel in thousands for celebrating a religion that has made a man into a G-d. That is not a religion tied with Abraham and is insulting.

Erick Matta ,   United States   (01.02.12)
as a member of Christians United for Israel, we look at a term like "judeo-Christian" as acknowledgement of our undeniable roots.. fact is, the Jews gave us our bible , the Patriarch's(Abraham, Issac, & Jacob, the powerful Prophets, & Jesus! we are nothing without these amazing Judaic roots. we don't want to take away or blend with what is yours, but instead we want to submit to G_ds command that we bless His people. checkout David Brog's book "Standing With Israel."
9. #3 Good post, nothing to add.
Yossef   (01.02.12)
10. the real issue
Ellen ,   Golan Heights   (01.02.12)
I think it is incorrect to couch this issue in terms of the philo-Semitic church versus the anti-Semitic church (Amalek vs Jethro). When it comes to Jewish spiritual continuity this argument is irrelevant. Even if Christians had been kind to the Jews for two millennia, a distance and separation of faiths would still be a core principle and concern of Judaism. As devoted and passionate as many of these Christian leaders are in their support of Israel, it pales in comparison to their zeal and commitment to spreading the Christian message. Evangelicals have no problem supporting the Jewish state and protecting Israel physically, while simultaneously challenging her spiritually via "sharing their faith" through "outreach projects" and establishing a "biblically-based alliance" and Christian foothold in the Jewish state. Of course, they are missionaries, especially when one considers that missionary activity is not confined those who aggressively proselytize with an overt conversion agenda. Evangelicals are striving to draw Jews close and to break down the barriers between faiths. So the real issue is one of whether or not the Jews can play with this evangelical fire in a responsible manner. It's clear that red lines need to drawn in Israel's relationship with pro-Israel evangelical Christians and that there should be an accountable framework with which to monitor the relationship on an ethical, political, spiritual, financial, and legislative level.
11. The headline
Paul ,   Jerusalem   (01.02.12)
Wrong question. It is not that Jews need help from Christians, it is the need for the remnant of human beings left in the world, regardless of religious belief, to acknowledge their common 'love for G-O-D and 'Natural Law'. Those of opposing faiths have more in common with others of faith, then to those that are G-O-Dless.
12. oh really
mikebeck ,   alton usa   (01.02.12)
kinda hypocritical taking christian support nand then spitting on clegy aint it give it a rest, granted bad christians in shoah but tell me what jewish army stopped the nazis.
13. WE ALL NEED TO SUPPORT ISRAEL
HINDU ,   USA   (01.02.12)
Israeli is the "canary in the coal mine". We all, Hindus, Christians, Buddhists, Agnostics, Atheists, Sikhs, Zorastrians, Bahaiis, moderate Muslims..........we ALL need to support Israel.
14. #12 Really
Logic ,   Israel   (01.02.12)
1. Those who spit on clergy are the same ones who are pushing women aside. Most Israelis don't approve of them. 2. Hundreds of thousands of Jews joined the Allied armies in WWII and fought with valor. There was no Jewish army in the 1930s because the UK prevented the formation of Israel with the White Paper immigration restrictions. By the way, the US, Canada, and UK could have had hundreds of thousands of fresh Jewish recruits to send to the front if it wasn't for their cruel and short-sighted immigration policies.
15. Mr. Meotti'a views
graczek ,   Maryland, USA   (01.02.12)
Mr. Meotti's views are heretical to accepted mainstream Christianity. In times in the not-too-distant past, his Church would have dealt with him sternly. He risks his immortal soul unless he soon recants his current position.
16. True Christians support Israel.
Luiz F Haddad ,   Niteroi, Brazil   (01.02.12)
About the text above, I repeat that all true Christians, Catholic or Evangelicals, do endorse Jewish people and defend Israelian rights. Our churches had committed a lot of errors, and several crimes, during past times; inquisition, pogroms, discriminations, and others; all shameful and sinful. Nowadays, those shadows must be erased forever. It is a sacred duty to struggle for peace into the "Holy Land", but never that can endanger the Jewish State. The Cross and the David's Star, for us, do represent the will of God Almighty. Hence, no more opposition, no more conflicts, among the both symbols.
17. Israel needs the Christians badly
Michael ,   California, USA   (01.02.12)
Israel needs friends. It is looking for them everywhere in the world. Isolation hurts and needs to be reversed. Supporting Christians are leading in this process. Christians who stand by the side of Israel outnumber Jews by a very wide margin and need to be given profuse thanks. Let's also give profuse thanks to non-religious -- agnostics and atheists -- who support Israel. To those, religious Israelis appear like a most disgraceful bunch.
18. Trusting G-d
Mike ,   Holland   (01.02.12)
..is the only way for Israel to survive. But 2 things will always be the standard pattern: 1) as usual G-d will use people to do the jobs. G-d "needs" people like Abraham, David, Moshe, Rachab, Ruth to fulfill His universal plan. He designed His plans that way. 2) as usual He will use both Jews & gentiles. Just like Joseph (symbol of Israel) & Egypt (symbol of Gentiles). He always picks one or two (or more) gentiles, put them besides Israel and His plan will start to work.
19. to #12 mikebeck
Arn ,   Yehud, Israel   (01.02.12)
We are used to inane rantings and the shouts of simpletons, but your contribution goes beyond both. It is as stupid as it is ugly. What Christian army blew up the railway tracks to Auschwitz and Treblinka? What Christian lands opened their doors to Jews fleeing Hitler? Even Roosevelt returned them to the Nazis.
20. #14
Jared Henderson ,   Canada   (01.02.12)
yes! you hit it dead on our short sighted immigration problems are at fault! for the tragedy of the past, it's not like christians and jews get along or anything. and it's not like Canada the USA or britain did anything to stop the tragedy, yes we were slow to act and it needlessly caused the death of millions of people around the world (the war, jews, gypsies, gays, elderly ,children etc etc etc) we are not perfect nor do we pretend to be, we have made our mistakes like every other group in the history of the world. We learned from our mistakes Jews should never forget the words "NEVER AGAIN" but at some point they have to forgive North America and the UK we got it done in the end didn't we?
21. #8 Excellent rendering
John ,   Boise, Idaho USA   (01.02.12)
..and at the final end, it will be the "new creation" Gal 6:15-16 as we stand, we are one before God. Thank you
22. #17
Arik   (01.02.12)
No we don't need you Christians badly. That is a exaggeration of epic proportions.
23. @1
Robert ,   Timisoara   (01.02.12)
Do you really think that Israel can have the luxury to chose its allies? If it loses US support and Western European acceptance it will become a virtual pariah.
24. #22, I am as much Christian as you are.
Michael ,   California, USA   (01.02.12)
Don't exaggerate in epic proportions and don't bite hands that feed you. A little humility can do you a lot of good.
25. Evangelicals in the US are solid friends
RAYS ,   USA   (01.02.12)
Unlike the liberal (Reform) Jews and many "main stream Catholic and Protestant" Christians, most "fundamentalist and evangelical" Christians in the USA are reliable, active, supporters of Israel and Jews. No"summer soldiers and sunshine patriots " ,when it comes to defense of the USA and Israel these are the best friends Israel has in the USA. Good article.
26. A little correction to Luiz F Haddad 's comment
yossi   (01.02.12)
# 17, on the 3rd line. Our churches have committed a " lot of crimes " and " several errors " during past times.
27. A morning prayer for the cognoscenti
GravesDigger ,   NYC, USA   (01.02.12)
28. Isolation or true friendship.
Shalom ,   U.S.A.   (01.02.12)
Liberal american jews who voted for the most antisemitic american president ever and eager to vote for him again or christian friends who sincerely support the jewish state? Giulio Meotti or tom friedman? What is your choice?
29. #24
Arik   (01.02.12)
I'm not a Christian nor will I ever be. So don't make crazy assertions, and perhaps you should show the humility, for i merely stated a fact that we the Jewish people can get by without Christian support as history as shown, well before the establishment of Christianity. So don't portray it as if we need Christians or else we are gone. This is nonsense.
30. #25 &16 ...reliable and supportive
John ,   Boise, Idaho USA   (01.02.12)
Evangelicals are, as you say, Israel's best friend and will stand by them when all others pretend or fail, as well as many others who will do the same. Israel is our true friend and has and will contribute to the world the very best of its society, culture and people. The world owes thanks to Israel as they continue to bless the nations through the blessings of Abraham (Genesis 12).
