31. Yitzhak can't read apparently...
Debbie ,   USA   (03.26.12)
two hunters in the Bible, Nimrod and Esau, are both depicted as villains. The Talmud tells the story of a great rabbi, Judah Ha-Nasi, who was punished with years of kidney stones and other painful ailments because he was insensitive to the fear of a calf being led to slaughter; he was relieved years later when he showed kindness to animals. (Talmud Baba Metzia 85a). Also, halacha states animals DO have souls. It's throughout Torah.
32. Animal Rights
Cathy ,   Israel   (03.26.12)
The fact the we are the so-called rulers of the earth does not give us the right to harm animals but instead the duty to protect them. As for the issue of soul-anyone who has seen an animal mourn can argue that. Just because a dog can't talk to you doesn't mean it is the spiritual equal of a chair.
33. Torah vs Opinion
Jewish Whale ,   Haifa, Israel   (03.26.12)
I am no Posek, but, obviously if we are going to allow animal testing then it must be done with respect. The fact that shechita is so complicated supports this. Sadly, humans are too caught up in themselves generally to think of the meaning and application of the halacha as opposed to the interpretation. Vegetarianism is a whole other discussion supported by the Rambam.
34. Blatent ignorance from a narcissist!
Janie Barclay ,   Tel Aviv   (03.26.12)
Everyday in veterinary schools all across this world, the fraud of vivisection is substantiated. After talking with several veterinarians who unfortunately have been fooled into believing that animal research can be beneficial to humans, I asked them, "When you were in vet school studying feline leukemia which animal did you study upon?" They all replied, "Cats." I asked them why they didn't use dogs for feline leukemia research. They replied that studying dogs for feline leukemia didn't make too much sense scientifically. I then asked why dogs, cats and other animals are used for human leukemia research. Their silence exposed the scam.
35. Vivisection on Criminals
ASTRONAUT ,   USA   (03.26.12)
Prisons worldwide are filled with recidivistic rapists, murders, and terrorists who can be serving mankind more so, as vivisection subjects. They are sub-human to begin with: they are devoid of emotion; incapable of feeling remorse.
36. You can't expetc a newspaper editor to know anything about
rachel ,   tel aviv israel   (03.26.12)
the issue of using animals for medical or cosmetic research. But if someone with knowledge in this area had written this article, the comments would not have been so one-sided or inaccurate. It is totally unneccessary to use animals for either medical or cosmetic research today. Computers long ago took over the practice which used to maim and kill innocent animals, including dogs and cats and apes who are certainly higher up on the evolutionary scale than the author. The Torah says not to abuse animals. Period. There are no exceptions and if you have ever seen what happens to laboratory animals you would know that the hideous practices used on God's creatures should be outlawed.
37. The usual narrow religious viewpoint
Glen ,   Tel Aviv   (03.27.12)
So, dominion over animals means pinning rabbits' eyes open and subjecting them to untold suffering. Be fruitful and multiply? Yeah, it produces more and more sickos like this writer every second of the day.
38. Even if it's permitted, it doesn't mean you should do it..

39. #23 - I'm okay with legitimate criticism of Israel so long
Henry from New York ,   USA   (03.27.12)
as it is legitimate. You're applying a double standard to Israel when we do the same here. It would be right to criticise cruelty in one place if you acknowledge it in our home country (we have animal testing and cruelty in slaughterhouses).. Only about 7% of Israelis (HaKharedim) wish to rebuild the temple and resume sacrifices. Please do research and give an even-handed argument in the future.
40. Animal Experimentation
JewishTeddyBear ,   San Diego, CA   (05.14.12)
I disagree strongly with him. One does not have to be an animal rights nut to oppose animal experimentation. Jewish law forbids unnecessary cruelty to animals. While I might support animal research that can be shown to directly help find a cure for deadly diseases, there is simply no justification for torturing animals for the sake of things like perfume, or to give women fur coats.
