Your African refugees? Well bring them to London, then, why don't you? Buckingham Palace has lovely grounds -- they can sleep there. Surely the residents won't mind. Good to know that an Englishman is FINALLY acknowledging that so much of the mess in black Africa is Britain's fault. They really are YOUR Africans, and you are more than welcome to them.

The Falasha were cruelly treated and persecuted by non-Jewish Ethiopians and Eritreans for centuries. Has it occurred to you that there may be reasons for Faslaha disdain of Ethiopians and Eritreans? You have some nerve. Besides, the article merely states the truth.

It is our reponsibility to ensure that all are safe, well-fed, healthy, well-educated, and have an equal opportunity to make our unique contributions to the olam. Until the philosophy that holds one race superior and another inferior is finally and permenantly discredited and abandoned there will be conflict. Until the color of a man's skin is of no more significance than the color of his eyes there will be conflict. Until the basic human rights are equally guaranteed to all without regard to race there will be conflict. Until that day, the dream of lasting peace, world citizenship, and rule of international morality will remain but a fleeting illusion to be pursued, but never attained.
66. Wow.
Henry ,   Does it matter?   (06.11.12)
Seriously, these comments are AMAZING. I mean, seriously, seriously racist -- And totally lacking in a sense of irony. I mean, does anyone here think that Israel might stir up unwanted comparisons if the government starts rounding up an ethnic minority and shipping them to camps? Does that not set off any, you know, alarms?
67. Where are the police?
Steven A. ,   Bay Area, USA   (06.12.12)
Let's hope they get involved. Your story is great fiction.
68. Really?
Eritrawit ,   San Francisco, USA   (06.12.12)
So you get an Ethiopian Jew to write an article about Eritrean refugees and present it as journalism? That is ridiculous! The reason Eritreans left their countries in droves long ago is because of Ethiopians. How about a story on Jews written by Nazi Germans?
69. We have NO idea who these folks are.
American attorney ,   USA   (06.12.12)
We have NO idea who these folks are, whether they are economic migrants, war criminals fleeing justice, political refugees, mental patients or simple ordinary criminals looking for easier pickings. Every country has standards as to who comes i n and who doesn't.

Correct me if I am wrong, but Eritrea is now independent, is it not? Or is it such fun to molest a thirteen year old Jewish girl on the street in broad daylight and molest a fifteen year old Jewish girl bathing in the sea that going home and plaintive bleatings of "persecution" no longer have any meaning? Kind of a knee-jerk response, anyway, isn't it? The Eritreans wanted their own country; they now have it? Work to build a viable state, and leave us alone. Moreover, if Eritreans are responsible for a vast number of criminal acts in the State of Israel, why shouldn't they be brought to justice and held accountable? Or are you going to draw the "poor, poor, pitiful me 'refugee'" card (sigh ... this is getting REALLY old) yet again? And how many countries do the Eritreans have? Isn't one enough? And now that Eritrea is an independent state, why haven't you RETURNED home in droves? That's what the Jewish people did, and that is why Israel is a thriving state. Take a page out of that book. Why are you so lazy that you expect everyone else to do your work for you? Why do Eritreans flock to Israel in droves and engage in completely antisocial behavior, and then blame their criminal activities on the fact that Eritreans were persecuted before they had a state? Clean up your act. The world no longer is receptive to the crap you've been selling. If you want a viable state -- build one. Why should anyone do it for you, and why should you get a free ride somewhere else?

I think the question is rather one of who is responsible for conducting due diligence. These people claim to be refugees. The United Nations has a number of very well-funded agencies whose purview is exclusively the plight of refugees -- genuine refugees, or self-styled ones. In no event is it Israel's problem. Hint: do you remember the Mariel boat lift? Do you remember what Castro unloaded on the shores of the United States? Why would Eritrea, Sudan, Ghana, Nigeria or the Ivory Coast act any differently? That said, Israel should know better. The Soviet Union opened its prisons, gulags and mental asylums under the guise of allowing Jewish emigration. That's precisely what Castro reprised. Well over half of the people who left the Soviet Union as refugees were not Jews. Same deal here and now. Send out all of the criminals, drug addicts, alcoholics, mentally ill and other undersirables, and you reduce your overhead considerably. Nothing we haven't seen before. Obviously, it doesn't include everyone but it does incorporate the overwhelming majority. But illegals are illegals and, as such, have no claim to refuge. Isn't that the problem of the United Nations? Isn't that partly the reason that the United Nations was created?

the law of return is for JEWS no one else4. send them back. growing up in the south i was told to go back where i came from all the time as a Jew. maybe we should try that policy with these illegal ctriminals. what good are they to Israel?

You haven't been in Harlem recently. These people in south Tel Aviv are a problem unto themselves. Solve the problem, without using ignorant comparisons.

Good job! a nice comedy script. The writer is claiming that he understands the language. I'd expect him to try to be understanding, and not to use this advantage then to sow seeds of xenophobic hatred. And why would Ynet, with all its fame publish such a biased story? This is really an insult to the readers. Israel has created the socioeconomic chaos and now these people are accused. You are forcing us to become your lifelong enemies. We shall remember this, for you have judged on us, but I hope we won't get even when our times come. Time will tell the tale!
76. a Detroiter's experience at TA bus station
M Federman ,   USA   (06.24.13)
while visiting Israel I was staying in herzliya and often took the bus to/from TA. One evening, I got on the wrong bus and ended up at the large central bus station. It was late at night by this point, and I was tempted to immediately take a taxi. There were some octavia taxis milling in front of the station entrance, but I was short on cash at the time. Amid the diverse people waiting at the bus stop that night, an african was urinating into a trash can and muttering nonsense. So I went to the bus station entrance, and asked the security guard who checked my bag what bus went to herziliya. Noting the number I went inside, but did not manage to find the particular bus. That place is huge and run down, and before I knew it I ended up lost in a somewhat quiet part of the station. It was at that point I passed two young whites who looked like drug addicts, arguing in Russian. Moments later I noticed they were following me down the corridor and one of them was holding a retractible box cutter. This was truly the only time I feared for my safety the entire time I was in Israel. But just then, a group of three ethiopian young men dressed in IDF uniforms rounded the corner kicking a ball of trash, like a soccer ball. I shouted "goal" with a smile (they may have thought I was crazy, I didn't care as it was a relief to see uniformed israelis, speaking hebrew). So I told them what bus I was looking for, and they helped me find the screen showing the departures. What is important to note is that to me personally, many of the people from these particular african countries look alike. But it was specifically clearly assimilated individuals who made me feel safer in their company than I did being trailed alone by russian-speaking drug addicts or out on the street where an african was urinating into the trash. Granted these are two very different ends of the spectrum, but I feel compelled to say that outright racism against all africans is wrong and will make Israel look bad. That said, it's also clear that there's some serious problems caused by the "infiltrators" and it's a complex thorny issue. I only hope that it will be resolved in a way that doesn't also promote or justify blanket racism and retains israel's cultural standing as a place where all upstanding citizens can lead productive lives regardless of the color of their skin provided they play by the rules. But it must happen soon; because it's when things get dangerous that there is little room left for the voices of moderation.
77. To Sarah B., #70 & #71
Roz ,   Tel Aviv   (07.17.13)
Your responses show how ignorant you are, and how you are not willing to look any further into this matter when it surpasses your comfort zone. Sarah B., Eritrea might be an independent country now, but the oppressive regime is often compared to North Korea and people are NOT safe there. People that oppose this regime are often imprisoned, tortured and killed. How can you accuse people of being 'so lazy that you expect everyone else to do your work for you'? A great deal of these people risk their lives in their home countries, then risk their lives fleeing them (MANY of them are tortured by Bedouin smugglers, there are scientific reports on this). Show some compassion and don't make a fool out of yourself by being so ignorant. Also, your respnse about the UN: until about 2006, the UN carried out the Refugee Status Determination process for Israel. Please not that usually the UN only does this in third world countries, but Israel lacked some serious refugee policies. From 2007, Israel TOOK THIS OVER FROM THE UN - and proved to be completely incapable. That's right, Israel 'sent the UN home' because they wanted to deal with their own things. The current situation is the result of that. Again, you should really do your -quite easy- homework before you make bold statements about things you clearly don't know that much about. Shame on you.
