31. If Syria thought it was IAF they are really incompetent. Wh.
PETER SM   (06.27.12)
didn't they proudly announce their heroic victory over Israel immediately ?
32. Surprising, how long they needed to find that explanation;-)
Tobias   (06.27.12)
33. If there is anyone to be at war with.
Elon ,   LA   (06.27.12)
Go ahead. Shoot down more Turkish planes and your own people in your delusional state. I'll just stay way over here.
34. Syria is obviously afraid of Turkey
Chaya ,   Bat Yam   (06.27.12)
Or else Syria wouldn't have made up such a laughable story.
35. Syrian verses Turkish
DocHolliday ,   Port of Spain   (06.27.12)
Come on Syria, the whole world know that it’s not that easy to down an Israeli fighter jet…come better than that...your fright is showing…
36. #3 ahmed
DavidR ,   USA   (06.27.12)
If that is the truth then you should be counting your beads and praying to your allah because if the US or the Zionists is at war with you, you will soon be meeting your virgins.
37. erdogan will not believe such lies.
Iranian Hunter   (06.27.12)
For the following reasons: 1. Airplanes has NATO, Turkey codes in it, military airforce has it, all nations. 2. Turkey already said they caught messages that the decision makers in Syria told to shoot the already known Turkish plane. 3. Assad already said he will burn the whole region if he goes down, and erdogan already said he will liberate Syria from a tyrant, deadly combination eh ? 4. Turkey knows such lies is impossible to believe, since if it was Israeli jet, it would not be hit down by an Iranian made / Russian made / Syrian made air defense missiles. Even if it is going to hit the plane, the plane would already hit it's target. Kamikaze plane.
38. Tariq is still in lalaland
ChanahS ,   Israel   (06.27.12)
You should read up the facts about the Sabra and SHtila massacre instead of spouting rubbish. It was carried out by Cristian Philangists in retaliation for something ot other. Remember Sharon won his case of libel against Time Magazine, who printed the lies supplied by your Arab press. Stop blaming everyone else for your problems and stupidity. People like you deseve leaders like the murderers Assad and his father.
39. Gotta hand it to the Arabs
Lila ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (06.27.12)
They come up with some of the best lies....saving face by blaming the Jews again!
40. @26 Sabra and Shatila massacre
Alex ,   Toronto   (06.27.12)
The massacre was perpetrated by a Lebanese Christian Phalangist militia in defiance of Israeli instructions to behave like a "dignified" army. Even though, Ariel Sharon was found indirectly responsible and resigned his Minister of Defence post. Name me an Arab Minister of Defence who resigned because he was indirectly responsible for letting Jews massacre Jews, then we'll talk.
41. @25 and 26
DavidR ,   USA   (06.27.12)
Then why don't you join your brothers in Syria and get the hell out of my country.
42. An Israeli plane?
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (06.27.12)
Yeah, right. Of course. The last time Syria did something stupid and tried -- tried, mind you -- to shoot down an Israeli plane, Syria ended up losing 82 of his own (many of them piloted by Russians!). Israel did not incur any losses. Assad stepped in it (big-time), and he's backpedaling as fast fast as he can. It won't work. No one with half a brain believes that Assad would be so stupid as to challenge an Israeli aircraft. Damascus is in Israel's gunsights, and Israel has spy satellites gazing down at Syria all the time. Syria knows it, too. Curious to see if Erdogan takes the bait, and accepts Syria's fairy tale.
43. Once I mistook my Chevrolet Cavalier for a Ford 150 truck ?
Moshe ,   Usa   (06.27.12)
44. If the IAF was flying....
Edward ,   New York USA   (06.28.12)
Syrian radar would have been jammed and/or the anti-aircraft missiles would have been targeted prior to the use of airspace. Israel is not a Turkey.
45. IAF
Rolly ,   Tampa, US   (06.28.12)
I am sure other people have made the same comment, but had it been an IAF plane there's no chance in hell that the Syrians could have shot it down.
46. Bragging rights
PaulZion ,   Israel   (06.28.12)
Oh come on! If they thought they had downed an Israeli plane, it would have been announced by them immediately, with all the celebrations and exclamations of "a great victory against the Zionist entity". Syria has never been reticent with regards to "victories" over Israel - mainly because they have been so few and far between. And now they let the incident sleep for 2 days before they announce they thought it was an Israeli plane? Who will believe that?
47. The gang that couldn't shoot straight.
Chaim ,   Israel   (06.28.12)
Either the Syrian army is lead by absolute morons or Syria is lying. Which is it?
48. Israel doesn't fly Phantoms anymore. Syrians know that.
Scott ,   USA   (06.28.12)
49. So what does this incident say about
Scott ,   USA   (06.28.12)

ralph   (06.28.12)
54. Dear Tariq#26
AMERICAN HINDU ,   USA   (06.28.12)
Dear Tariq, From what I understood there was not a single Israeli soldier at Sabra & Chatilla during the massacre. The killing was carried out by the LEBANESE PHALANGISTS. The leader of the group that carried out this massacre was later made MINISTER OF REFUGEES by the Lebanese government - a puppet then of the Syrians. Israelis are no more responsible for there killings than the Americans are responsible for atrocities against the Taliban by the Northern Alliance in Afghanistan
55. Giggle! Giggle! Syria is TAUNTING Turkey. Good BS!
Harry Wright ,   UK   (06.28.12)
56. blame erdogan!
tom ,   toronto, canada   (06.28.12)
israel was in the process of upgrading turkey's f4s, when erdogan started playing political "games" with israel, and broke off relations. as a result, the upgrades were never completed, and although they were partially upgraded (engine and airframe?), they never got modern countermeasures, which would have protected them against ground fire. (according to debka.) so it's erdogan and his islamist idiots' fault!
57. to #26: "sabra and shatilla"
tom ,   toronto, canada   (06.28.12)
why are you babbling nonsense? the "massacre" at sabra and shtailla refugee camps was carried out by christian lebanese militiamen, in lebanon, against the orders of the idf, and then israeli minister of defence ariel sharon. why don't you take it up with the lebanese, who were involved, instead of braying your hatred at israel? could it be that you prefer hating israel to actually facing the fact that your worst enemies are your own arab brethren?
58. "israeli plane"
tom ,   toronto, canada   (06.28.12)
air defense motto:" shoot 'em down; sort 'em out on the ground!" it's funny that they should issue live ammunition to soldiers who can't recognize an f-4. not so funny that the operators of that anti-aircraft system (probably russians, possibly iranians) didn't follow ANY international protocol for unidentified aircraft entering their airspace. no matter whose aircraft it was (and obviously their identification was not accurate), shooting it down without warning is not allowed. for the moment, syria is only at war with itself, so the only aircraft it should be shooting down without warning, are those with SYRIAN air force markings.
59. Were the pilots wearing a fez?
Mark ,   Israel   (06.28.12)
60. Syria shots down Turkish jet
Dr Robert Millward ,   Belize City CA   (06.28.12)
Since there has never been any sign of pilots in the downed aircraft, has anyone given thought to the suspicion that it may have been remote controlled and part of a False Flag by the USA and Turkey. This could then cause a reaction with NATO.It is my contention this was done by the uSA and Turkey to give cause for invasion of Syria. Dr Robert Millward Professor, International law
