i dont know why turkey is pissed you send a recon (spy plane) to spy on syria in syrian air space. What did you expect for them to allow you? what would have happened shoyuld that turkish spy plane fly into israeli airspace i think it would have resulted in the same ending dont u think? that plane violated another countries airspace without permission if you are going to spy then obviously you know the risks envolved people need to forget and realize that it doesnt matter which countries are involved what matters is the logic behind the scenario saying that we are angry that you shot down our spy plane !!! thats ridiculously stupid and naiive

I'm surprised at you. Your posts are usually higher browe than this. This isn't really about Israel. This is about Assad/Alawites/Syria trying to evade an escalation from the outside. Assad would prefer to keep things inside Syria and avoid external confrontation. Syria's patron state - Russia, is trying to keep it's power intact and this incident isn't helping the Ruskie's any.

Aharon Barak decided that Sharon was indirectly responsible for Sabra and Shatilla to kick Sharon out of politics and destabilize the Begin government. At the time, people assumed the massacre was justfiied revenge for Fatah atrocities against innocent Lebanese. Like #54 says, everyone knows now that the massacre was a false flag operation carried out by Assad. #26 Tariq is probably a Syrian agent.

This is about Iran playing Turkey against Syria and vice-versa. I'm not accusing the Russians of anything. The last thing the Russians would want would be for the Syrians to shoot down anything, least of all an Israeli aircraft. I also do not believe that the Syrians would knowingly even attempt to shoot down an Israeli plane. They tried it once before, and lost 82 of their MiGs. I don't think they've forgotten the incident. The fact of the matter is that Israel freewheels in Syrian airspace all the time. The Syrians know better than to even THINK about doing anything about it. Above radar detection; below radar detection -- Israel doesn't really care. Keep in mind that Israel flew clear across Syria to destroy Syria's budding nuclear ambitions in 2007, and the Syrians had no idea until after the fact. Even once they figured it out, they did nothing. But Syria is not really afraid of Turkey (NATO notwithstanding -- Turkey's membership in NATO after all, is tenuous at best), particularly with the Iranians pushing. Iran does, after all, have troops in Syria aiding Assad. Assad will do what his puppet master in Iran tells him to do. In this case, Iran is actually testing NATO. There, is that sufficiently highbrow for your tastes? It's just that I don't generally state the obvious. I thought anyone with a modicum of intellect could figure this out. I guess I was wrong.

Sounds like turkey is really an american puppet. They have the gall to tell another country not to mass troops along their border. They are doing the bidding work of the US. I'll be damned if even my neighbor warned me not to come close to a border of our houses.

Given Israel's history of attacking neighbors, and the previous attack on Syria.

Syria couldn't shoot down a slow moving turkey, let alone an Israeli fighter jet.

Israel's history of attacking neighbors! What about the attacks on Israel in 1948 and 1973. Your memory is either selective or you don't know your history.

Right now Assad is public enemy number 1 but when it came to the loss of this Turkish aircraft the blame lies with Erdogan. Out of all the NATO member states Erdogan is the only one that welcomes the idea of a Libya style operation in Syria, get the Turkish boys with their toys being international heros as they bomb Assad's palaces and Erdogan comes out of it looking like a hero. Unfortunately he cannot get either a UN or NATO mandate and without that he won't get his war. There is still a chance that Erdogan will get the war he dreams of but to do that he needs to know what kind of anti aircraft capabilities Assad has. Those planes most probably were see how deep into Syria before your detected you and when you are we will learn how good Syrian AA is and then you guys get out and home. The world is of course all standing round Turkey and blaming it all on Assad because nobody wants to be seen as being defending Assad's position when he is killing people and Turkey is a member of NATO. Its just being used as more political ammunition against Assad but I imagine this is one incident Assad cannot be blamed for.
