31. Israelis just can't hear it
Voice of reason   (06.29.12)
32. And so this shows the true nature of Arabs in Israel
William ,   Israel   (06.29.12)
They are just waiting for an end to Israel while sucking it dry of resources and supporting their terrorist brothers next door. I have no sympathy for those in the Arab population who claims they aren't treated equally or don't receive the same municipal resources when their sentiments reflect the scum who wrote this Op-Ed. Perhaps Israel needs to institute a Loyalty Law and enact it the same way Arab Leaders do. Had the Israeli Arabs said the same thing in Iraq or Egypt, they would have received an "answer" quickly and decisively.
33. His views on National Service is also wrong
William ,   Israel   (06.29.12)
What I hear from the author is "we are lazy and inherently racist, and refuse to do anything that helps the State and population whom we despise but still accept benefits from willingly" Had Israeli Arabs joined the IDF, most likely they wouldn't be given guns. I know I wouldn't want to be next to some twit from the Galilee and risk have them shooting me like Afghani soldiers do to their US counterparts during training. And had they joined the IDF, they would not be placed in a position that causes them to fight "Palestinians", for so many reasons. Finally, National Service is just what it says. You serve the country and its people in some community-service way, and it mostly benefits your local community. There is no direct line from National Service to the IDF, but from his comments, it is clear what he means is "normalization with the State of Israel" and they fear if they do National Service then people will mistakenly believe they accept Jews.
34. Speaking of Intl resolutions....
William ,   Israel   (06.29.12)
how many did Arabs ignore or break within 24 hours of accepting?? ALL of them! Don't forget, Halaila, while your ilk were helping your terrorist cousins enter Israel and commit attacks on Israelis, Israeli Arabs were equally injured or killed by suicide bombers. Many Israeli Arabs have stood up to the call and joined the IDF and National Service, with pride. They have the respect of their fellow citizens - you do not. So, don't join the IDF. That's OK. Bedouins make the best trackers and Druze are excellent soldiers with a bone to pick against Arabs like you who haven't treated them right either. For so many reasons, I am AGAINST having Israeli Arabs like you in the army....mostly for the safety of the non-Arabs in the country.
35. Arabs should serve in IDF to protect fellow Arabs from IDF
Steve Benassi ,   Silver Bay, MN USA   (06.29.12)
36. Be an IS-realist & create a Jewish Democracy
Moshe ,   Usa   (06.29.12)
for Jews as the only voters & the only ones with rights to own land. arobs make babies like flees. Wake up now, as I've told you for 15 years, you will expel the arobs & you will deprive them of their current residences & you will demolish their mosques. Otherwise they will make a moooslum democracy that will disaffect you of your rights. Mark my words, you will have no Jewish state unless you expel arobs within & around you. No one can make peace with them, as arobs are brazen religious imperialists.
37. No Army: Fine, maybe best; but
SpadeASpade ,   Common Sense Town   (06.29.12)
no national service exposes them as the disloyal citizens they are. While I know a number of good Israeli Arabs, actions such as this make people think that Kahane was right when it comes to most of the community. Do National Service within your own communities—G-d knows they need all the help they can get! But the Arab mentality of shooting themselves in the foot just to make things difficult for the Jews shows what a warped culture pervades far too much of the Arab world. There is nothing inherently wrong with the Arabs. This is simply another example of a defective culture.
38. Wait, then what about Syria, Sudan.....
Eric ,   Tel Aviv & NY   (06.29.12)
If Arabs are not allowed to fight their Muslim brothers then why are some of the bloodiest conflicts currently going on Muslim vs Muslim? Somehow this prohibition seems to be applied too specifically to be valid. Why is it wrong for Arabs to work in schools, fire prevention or ambulance services supporting Arab communities while their Muslim brothers insist on keep Israel at a state of war?
39. Funny only in Israel
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (06.29.12)
In the Arab world they have no problem murdering their brothers by the tens of thousands. If they refuse - then they are not eligible for citizenship.
40. As an Israeli-Arab, i completely disagree
Rami of Nazareth ,   Israel   (06.29.12)
We Israeli-Arabs should not link or base our status in Israel on an outcome of a peace agreement that might never come. I do not share same value as Hamas or any radical Islamist arabs/iranians. Just like hamas and fatah masscared each other in gaza (so much for brothers fighting brothers). I will not hesitate to defend Israel against any muslim army.
41. Arab kill each other everywhere
Rami of Nazareth ,   Israel   (06.29.12)
Iraq, Sysria, Libya, Yemen just few examples where muslims massacre each other. DOn't patronize about arabs don't fight arabs
42. really
naava ,   jerusalem   (06.29.12)
this leaves me sputtering. You say you are part of a Palestinian nation...? There isn't a Palestinian nation and never was. Your nationality is Israeli, your ethnicity is Arab. You constantly demand "equal rights" as if you weren't already getting them. Yet you want to give nothing to this country? You want to have your cake and eat it too and ..sorry...it just doesn't work that way. You want rights as a citizen? You must bear some responsibility as a citizen. You think you should have all rights with no responsibility, for what reason? This, my friend, is EXACTLY why there will never be peace with your so called brother. The idea of taking without giving, of demanding anything you set your eyes upon, of expecting the world to cater to your every whim, is rampant amongst your brethren. Please, Arabs such as yourself do not belong in this country. Leave. Let the ones who are moral and responsible stay and contribute like the rest of us.
43. Rubbish!
Susie ,   Scotland   (06.29.12)
Your brothers are killing each other every day in Gaza, West bank, Syria, and soon in the Lebanon. Your minds are so screwed up with all the brainwashing from your leaders and Imans. You do not realise how good your lives are in Israel!
44. Exactly what no. 1 said, and this:
Gabriel ,   Leiden, Netherlands   (06.29.12)
Mr. Halaila, if you want to make a point (although I am at a loss as to what point that would be), you have to do a little better than this. Eleven sentences don't constitute an op-ed, especially since all you say is essentially an exceedingly childish, unloyal, and lazy ''I don't want to'', hidden by a made up cover of national identity. This national identity is, for some reason, strong enough not to make a single effort to contribute to the State of Israel, but, on the other hand, not strong enough to reject Israeli citizenship on principle, which one would expect given your sentiments towards Israel as expressed in the contents of your ''op-ed.'' You have no credibility.
45. Majd al-Krum: you're lazy and only take
(06.29.12)
"Performing national service is also out of the question, because we believe that its purpose is to eventually lead us to serve in the army. "??? Excuse me? how the first half of your sentence is connected to the other is beyond me. The state tells you - OK, don't risk your lives or the lives of your children fighting for the survival of the country you live in. God forbid we will ask you to do that. But do a national service in your communities? (again, god forbid that you contribute something to the general population) When it suited you you're an Israeli - so you get all the services and state stipends, and when it comes to contribute something all of a sudden you're a "Palestinian" and got nothing to do with the state. Give us a break.
46. Correction
Bertram ,   London, UK   (06.29.12)
The final sentence of No.8 should have read '.....which often divide people....', not 'would'.
47. An interesting thought
Big Al ,   Zichron, Israel   (06.29.12)
Maybe if we fill the army with Israeli arabs then arabs from other nations will desist from attacking us so as not to risk harming their fellow arabs.Could be a great deterrent!
48. Few reactions!
lidia ,   Israel   (06.29.12)
I was sure that the author's point of view would be followed by a lot of explosive reactions. Fortunately, the few ones I have just read are valuable, intelligent ,brave and knowledgeable.
49. A few questions for Muhammed Halaila
Alexander ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (06.29.12)
1) Why is "Palestine" a Roman/Latin name? 2) Why is there no letter "p" in Arabic? 3) Nationalism is alien to Arabs who have, for 1400 years, lived as nomads and Beduins in multi-ethnic and multi-racial "Arab" empires whose majority population - locals, subjects, soldiers, mercenaries, scientists, mathematicians, physicians and merchants, were no ethnic Arabs, merely Arab speaking Persians, Kurds, Turks, Jews, Berbers and Africans. Why is that? 4) There is no "Palestine" in the Bible or the Koran. Why? 5) The Bible and the Koran BOTH admit that Israel is the Jewish homeland. How come? 6) Jewish/Israelite history started 2000 B.C.E in Israel - 4000 years ago. Arab history of the original Arabians, started in the 7th century C.E. 1400 years ago, in the southwestern corner of the Arabian peninsula, hundreds of kilometers away from Israel, 2600 years AFTER the start of Jewish civilization. How can Arabs be the "natives" of Israel? 7) Most Arabs arrived in Israel as recently as the 1920s, 1930s and 1940s. How is that ancient history and how does that make "Palestinians" the "natives"? 8) When and where exactly did a "Palestinian" state, republic, nation state, kingdom, city state, duchy, principality or empire exist in recorded history, what are the names of kings and dynasties, cities, towns, villages and currency and why is there not a single ancient civilization mentioning anywhere any "Palestinian" state, civilization, nation or people? If you "poor" Arabs love each other so much, why do you kill each other in thousands all over the Arab world? Why do you measure your "love" for Arabs by how much you hate Jews? If you Arabs have 22 Arab states, why do you also need Israel? Isn't it racism to reduce Jews to a dhimmi status and reject the Jewish people's equal human, civil and national rights only because you Arabs are a bunch of cheap anti-Semitic racists? By the way, as long as your "brothers" use violence against Jews/Israelis, we will use violence against you. Stop playing the victim and ask yourself why Israel attacks you. Maybe because you attack Israel? You Arabs are no victims but the worst racists and most bloodthirsty violent liars the world has ever seen. You are Nazis pretending to be victims. You are big joke. Pack your bags and leave my country. You Muhammed Halaila is the real foreigner, imperialist and occupier. Good bye.
50. "Palestinians"
Anna ,   Poland   (06.29.12)
What kings and dynasties do the "ancient" "Palestinians" have? Can you tell me the names of "ancient" "Palestinian" cities, towns, villages? Or maybe a royal palace or temple? What religion did you have? What language did you speak? What alphabet did you use? What currency did you use? What poems did you write? What are your ancient holy books? What kind of state did you have? A kingdom? A nation state? A republic? An empire? What ancient civilizations mention any "Palestinian" people, culture, history, identity or country? Come on Muhammad! Don't be shy! You have nothing to hide do you? We Poles really want to know who you "Palestinians" really are...
51. ISRAELI NATIONAL SERVICE
moshe ,   Tivon   (06.29.12)
Natonal Service is a way for Israeli Arabs to pay their 'dues' for being citizens of Israel. The 'dues' of a Israeli Arab citizen : pay for Israeli higher education, medical, fire, police services. What connection does paying a debt have with IDF service ? don't be "schnorers" ! NO voluntary National Service on the part of Israeli Arabs will just widen the gap between Israeli Jews and Israeli Arabs. To the point where there will be proposals to make willingness to do National Service a condition for higher education and some jobs. moshe
52. Brothers should live with brothers
Norbus ,   Jerusalem   (06.29.12)
so it should not arise that they need to fight them Go home Arabs.
53. Go live with your brothers
Avi ,   USA   (06.29.12)
If you don't want to serve in your state then go live in the west bank and serve with their terrorist army. As usual, Arabs and Islam are the most racist culture/religion in the world. They will never accept jews as equal and it's time to expel them to jordan.
54. Really? You have to be kidding! Don't you kill each other...
Yosef ,   Boca Raton   (06.29.12)
all the time? What about Hamas killing a bunch of Arabs just because they were PLO or PLO sympathizers. What about the fight between shiites and sunnis. Or when you kill your sister because you do not like who she is going out with or if she gets raped? And you cant fight each other? We have been forced out of our homes in Yesha and Gush Katiff by our own brothers but you can not do the same for the sake of peace?
55. bulshit! irakes blowing one other by dosens,
alex   (06.29.12)
It became kind of national sport across all arabs lands who will kill more so called brothers. Dont serve - grt out. Period.
56. Then they shouldn't vote either
slavus   (06.29.12)
57. How stupid do you think we are?
Scott ,   USA   (06.29.12)
Arabs kill each other every day, by the thousands -- although I do admit thaqt they prefer killing non-Arabs and non-Muslims. If you don't like the draft, the airport is always open.
58. BE CONSISTENT
BEN JABO (MACHAL) ,   ISRAEL   (06.29.12)
Remove all ARAB MK's from the Knesset and civil service
59. Being an Arab is no excuse
BEN JABO (MACHAL) ,   ISRAEL   (06.29.12)
During BOTH WORLD WARS, ethnic German's and Italians fought the countries that their elders had migrated from, showing allegiance to their new homes in America Japanese American's (Nisei) did likewise during World War 2 Arabs that don't want to perform compulsory service are free to leave at any time, to show their allegiance to the country of their preference Love it or Leave It
60. That's a good one!
Aaron ,   NM   (06.29.12)
No fighting your brothers huh? I am not sure if I can pull myself up off the ground from laughing too hard. Fighting your kin is what you moslems do best. Then when you want to fight a non-kin, you guys probably give about 10%, lose, then beg for handouts.
