The rabbi may be right - recruiting the Haredim to the army is a disaster - it will alter the IDF and the first people to suffer are our daughters who will be discriminated against and expected to conform, witht he Haredim's absurd misconception of religion and how Jewish girls should behave. Quite simply the Haredim have not earned the right to serve in the army and they should be drafted en masse to civil service - now it may be that someone may decide that a limited number should study the Torah - however many is needed - 50 - a hundred - and that can be there service. Time to help the Haredim into the 21st century and away from their appalling distortion of Judaism

David Ben-Gurion permitted yeshiva students avoiding drafting to IDF because there were only little of them. Their population grew up allot and must serve in IDF as other Israeli citizens do. If there is the law favorite them then it must be changed.
