31. I agree with Helene #20 - well said.

32. Man Sets himself on fire
Harold ,   USA   (07.15.12)
I am very sorry for this man who seems that he has lost everything and now he wants to die. There will be more of this if Israel will not stop spending taxpayers money on war weapons and not spending on the public. Again I am very sorry and I wish him speedy recovery.
33. #1
Harold ,   USA   (07.15.12)
This man is not mentally sick. He lost every and now he does not care living anymore. The same happed in Tunisia and look what is the result. It smells that you are a rich man and that is the reason branding the hero of Israel as mentally sick. Wise-up
34. Israel is not to blame
k ,   US   (07.15.12)
all the anti-semites and anti-Israel people in the world are to blame for the situation Israel is in Just a shame that Jews have to go after other Jews, plenty of anti-semites and anti-Israel people in the world you can take out if you are going to go on a suicide mission
35. it is obvious that someone who would
Barney ,   USA   (07.15.12)
do this is not mentally stable. Being frustrated as a stroke victim happens all over the world without people setting themselves on fire. The most humane thing to do would be to let him die from the flames. The thought of recovering from those burns in a disabled state is a terrible fate. He was obviously ready to die. Making him endure the pain of the burns by saving him was no good deed.

your just heartless prick
37. #7 Eli...Most Social Protesters are Selfish and
Netanya ,   Netanya   (07.15.12)
they are thinking only of themselves, they are young, selfish, not needing anything and think that they have a G-d given right to a house in Tel Aviv; while the real injustice is done to people like this man, who are sick and the mothers who have no mates. The gov't is not right and if not for lots of private organizations there would be thousands of Israelis living on the streets. This man was desperate, not mentally unbalanced. This is the biggest problem with the protesters, if they really wanted social justice, they would first scream about those who really need HELP, who are not young and not only needing an apartment in tel aviv for convenience and to live near the beach. The rich get richer and the poor poorer. This is the reality of Israel, and if you get sick, you may find yourself like this man, homeless and hopeless, then you will change your tune. Time for Israel to return to the social country is was meant to be, and stop following USA, where the homeless are in uncountable numbers.
38. Being a hero does not pay anymore
Yossi ,   Kikar Hamedina   (07.15.12)
By immolating himself this guy did no good to himself. He will not profit from any improvement even if Bibi starts to make rain money from the sky. He is one stupid idiot. Or insane.
39. Bystanders
Yochanan ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (07.15.12)
Obviously there were a number of other social protesters around this self-immolator as he handed out the leaflets and prepared himself with flammable material. With the strong smell of benzine someone must have seen and understood what would happen. Why did nobody stop him!!? I think that this behaviour is tantamont to criminal behaviour on the part of the bystanders.
40. WTF = Whiskey Tango Foxtrot....
Jew ,   JewLandia   (07.15.12)
in other words this is a mentally ill person we should all feel sorry for. Tis a pity and it ain't pretty.
41. in Spanish we have a word for this...
Sarita Montiel ,   Israel   (07.15.12)
que pendejo! (what an idiot!) Did this pendejo actually think that setting himself on fire was going to make a difference? what was he thinking? twisted fool! ok fine I am a Jew so refuah shelema! (but, well, ok, never mind I won't say it!)
42. So many pictures taken ...
Mikhael Izsak-Dicker ,   Israel   (07.15.12)
Quote: "Eye witnesses said that the man ---> read out a letter before pouring flammable liquid over himself and setting himself on fire. <------ He left copies of the letter scattered on the ground" Does it mean that voyeurists have seen the whole preps and did nothing? Wow,great solidarity! -------------- Exhibitionist and plagiarist insanity. I'm sorry for the man, and angry at the social institutions that haven't stop him in time to become a danger for himself. The signs and facts were there, but nobody apparently had an eye or an ear for him. Not the authorities, not the help or health organizations, not his friends. This is the tragedy, added to his.
43. so are the other idiots who poured water on
Stu   (07.15.12)
the guy being charged with assisted suicide ? flammable liquid + water, come on people its not rocket science ! oh and why dd the people who new he was planning this (because he told them) not try to stop him ? or was it to good an opportunity for publicity?
44. I do not understand why would one want to Barbeque himself!
Avi ,   Israel   (07.15.12)
45. 37
zionist forever   (07.15.12)
When Israel was a socialist country it was bankrupt. You think we are going to get outside investment if we charge companies very high taxes so we can be a socialist country? There won't be any rich getting richer and poor getting poorer because the rich who pay the most in taxes will decide they don't want to be made poor themselves through super high taxes and leave the country because the rich and the highly skilled people are the ones who have the money & skills to leave and all we will have left are the poor and the least skilled. Israel cannot be a socialist island in a capitalist world anymore. Even the kibbutzim which were once an example of pure socilist democracy have moved away from their socialist roots. Today members not only get paid which they didn't in the past but what they get paid the same and your wage depends on what job you do with some earning more than others. They members are not all equlals anymore and some are getting paid more than others which goes against everything the kibutz ideal t was supposed to stand for. If socialism can't survive in a kibbutz anymore what chance does the country itself have of returning to its socialist roots? The world has moved on since 1948 and Israel has to also move on or else Israel will not survive. The socialist age was not a golden age and for all its problems most people are better off today than they were in the socialist years.
46. Moshe Silman
Cheryl ,   Chicago, USA   (07.15.12)
Moshe Silman is obviously mentally ill. Even if he is despondent over the current situation, this is not a normal way of reacting. He needs professional help.
47. Don't look at me, I did not rob him, I was found innocent...
Olmert ,   Israel   (07.15.12)
48. #30..Zionist...Lots of Solutions
Netanya ,   Netanya   (07.15.12)
There are lots of solutions to the current economic imbalance. For one, the gov't employees take about 5 raises in salary a year, why is that? The builder are all building only big apartments, since the cities make more on municipality taxes, while there can be a law where every city must build a certain amount of small apartments. The gov't can build small housing for those in need (not in tel aviv maybe or get the illegal immigrants out of S. Tel Aviv, clean it up and build there) Not all companies are private, many are still state run. Mikorot, who handles the water in Israel, for example is spending lots of money on tv ads (it is taxpayer money wasted.) The salaries of many of the gov't employees are much higher than those of other workers, in the same position. Mayors and the likes are total thieves and the corruption is out of control. The gov't can also build more apartments, so the price of the free market will go down, due to supply and demand (that is what pushes up the prices in the first place.) And there is no reason when mortgages of many places remain almost fixed or already non-existent, the owners raise rent 20% a yr. There are many things we can do to alleviate the situation and bituach leumi can help those who need it, especially if they have paid into it there entire lives. The banks should be forced to stop their immoral behavior of charging for everything, including using the teller and the bogus bank charges (which nobody can ever explain to anyone.) Necessary food products can be subsidized, as was in the past. The electric company does not have to be so expensive, neither does the water and the employees of these companies are getting huge pensions, while we are without electricity for parts of the day and the rates are astronomical. Please, there are too many things that can and should be done.
49. #30 how it can be done
israel israeli ,   tel aviv   (07.15.12)
I don't know about wages and public transport, but cheaper housing is easy: Netanyahu can reverse his decision and start massive building of Jewish homes in Judea and Samaria. Just like housing prices rose when he instituted the racist building freeze, prices will go down when there is sufficient supply.
50. How desperate must this man have been to do that
Talula ,   Israel   (07.15.12)
It's so sad. And it's the government's fault.
51. A great challenge for israeli doctors
Istvan ,   BUDAPEST HUNGARY   (07.15.12)
to save his life. 80% burns are usually fatal, but I hope israeli surgeons will transplate new skin, and will use new sophisticated methods to save the patient's life.
52. Social Justice?
Joe Shmo ,   Israel   (07.15.12)
Any reason this guy is living in tel-aviv?? He couldve lived outside of such a high priced city compared to other cities which rents are alot cheaper. It's terrible what he did to himself but you can claim bankruptcy trying to afford a million dollar house.
53. Totally unacceptable behavior.
Ezra ,   SanDiego USA   (07.15.12)
This is something I would expect from a monk during the vietnam war. This shouldn't happen in Israel. No excuse for this level of selfishness; yes I mean selfishness. Anyone who thinks the government is going to bail them out of their troubles doesn't understand the gov can't even manage it's own problems.
54. Leef has zero conscience!
Steve   (07.15.12)
As I do not live in Israel I will not comment on the fairness of her social contract with her citizens. I will state unequivocally however that Leef and her cohorts are without a doubt the most brazen and repugnant opportunists living in Israel for using this poor misguided and disturbed individual's suffering as a prop for their "cause". The friends of the victim are complicit as well in so far as they had ample warning and chose to do nothing to prevent this. It would appear that the left embraces this tragedy as it serves their agenda.
55. The system is against the middle and
jason white ,   afula, israel   (07.15.12)
lower classes. I tried to contact someone to complain about the security company that I work for. No one in government wants to do anything, in spite of the new laws. I cannot even get a copy of the new laws. I was told to go to the histadrut. I am not a member and my friends that are have gone on a number of occasions, a waste of time. Here you can cancel a service like bezek and not have a land line. You can pay your bill and months later some POS lawyer sends you another bill and you also have to pay for his letter. You can tell "Yes" no and they still will bill you. You can stop watching t.v. and you have to pay a t.v. license. We need to stop all of the above and get the government to work for us, the people. If the government employees do not want to work, then fire them and fine them for all the salaries and benefits they received.
56. Netanya city govt. the same
fed up ,   israel   (07.15.12)
Ask Netanya's Miriam Fireberg about who pays the price of her huge Netanya renaissance. People who live in scum, deal with piss in their doorways on Herzl street subsidize in "arnona" the parks and decorum of her pride and joy, Kiryat Sharon. Herzl street: "Azor A"- highest arnona in the country. Kiryat Hasharon: Azor B-discount for the rich. Why? She wants them. In Netanya, no one does anything because they're all afraid of the mafia who run the city building and development department. Go to Herzl street, see how many families suffer. When they ask for discounts in arnona, the city refuses them and then sends the bills to a law firm, so if they don' t pay, the city can possess their property and apartments. That's Fireberg's nod to the weak.
57. What people musn't forget is
15/7/2012   (07.15.12)
that we have a God and He reigns supreme. Don't think for a moment BiBi and his crew will walk off scot-free. They won't. They might have the riches now but G-d does not sleep and pretty soon the bibi-man and his empty headed followers will be marching straight in to hell!
58. and who will pay his medical bills?
svetlana   (07.15.12)
59. #53 'shouldn't happen in Israel'?!?!?!?!?!
Talula ,   Israel   (07.15.12)
Lots of things 'shouldn't happen in Israel' but the fact is they DO happen. You don't live here, you have NO IDEA of the hardships the citizens are having to face day in and day out. So do us all a favour and sod off. You Idiot.
60. #6 - Well done! Never truer words were spoken...
