In Ynet's hebrew version it is stated that this man had a business which he mismanaged, going into debt that he did not pay off. the debt grew and grew and became so big that the banks eventually took his house. His nephew was interviewed and gave a bigger picture on the manner. I can agree with some of the criticism towards israeli officials and clerks but you have to understand their situation too, with the limited budget and trying to provide help. In this case I don't think the israeli governmnent is to blame.

Are you forgetting that the USA is bankrupt or many states, including CA? Capitalism has also proven to be a failure, while not every country in Europe is falling down (ie, Germany) There is a middle ground and some of the ideas I wrote have nothing to do with socialism, like the builders/cities being forced to build smaller apartments. To go the way of USA, will be a huge mistake and at least in the USA people were able to pay rent, pay basic necessities, buy food and still have money in the bank. That is not how it is in Israel, a renter will never be able to buy, almost regardless of salary. The kibbutzim were not socialist, but communism, as in Marx's communism, which was not sustainable, but socialism definitely is. The longest lasting, most prosperous countries with the best standard of living are social ones. The idea of having thousands living on the streets is not one that most Israelis want. The gov't employees are overpaid and taking advantage, as are the mayors, the cities, etc (as I wrote in the last message) The state isn't letting enough building happen to offset the demand, there are many options which must be considered.

No country can sustain spending 50% of their budget on the military. Israel needs to change it's military posture, there is no point having a military if the state they are supposed to be guarding ceases to exist because it cannot afford it's military

since driving around Netanya these days you see all of these huge planters with big plants, on almost every corner where there is a traffic light. The blue and white twisty lights on the poles in the middle of the roads are nice, but they were surely a ton of money and now these plants are just good money wasted. What about the water for the plants, just another expenditure. The money used on the stupid plants could have been used to pay water for the citizens of netanya or a million other helpful things. There is no shortage of money, it seems, and great waste and as you pointed out, the corruption and the slums near the shook vs the high end luxury new buildings. We should be fed up and just thank our lucky stars that we are not on the streets today.

So a guy works many years, pays taxes, serves in the army, suffers a stroke and the government totally fails him and sends him to the streets- and HE is to blame!!!!?? I hope you guys will suffer a similar fate so your learn a lesson in compassion-that's the only way some people will learn.

Yes, the country had issues with finance many years ago. But Israel, by no means is a free market economy and it is not headed in that direction. I export goods all over the world, in Israel we export automobiles to consumers. 1. As a citizen or business, you cannot import a vehicle a resell it. Why,? Because the auto business is so corrupted, and the franchise dealerships offer such low quality vehicles at such high prices that the Israeli consumer is to a point forced to buy sub standard goods. 2. Certain vehicles are not offered in the Israeli dealers that they offer in the US. So when the Israeli consumer wants to import, I have to seek permission from my competition to import the vehicle. 3. I do business in Israel for one reason, to try to contribute thats it. I make more money in other countried but if you want foreign investment it will happen when you open it up for competition!

I agree with Gabriel and want to add some more...It is the people who have questioned this man's mindset that are the real fools..pharisee thinking (Is it your God that taught you -NO COMPASSION?) Your comments are not Wisdom either. This is why Jesus came to rectify your thinking...wow, I thought you would have learned by now.
