On the theory that some of the African illegals may have potential to make a reasonable life in Israel, I recommend that those who favor their staying in Israel be prepared to take one (or more!) into their own houses until they are self-supporting. A program could be set up that the potential deportees could be "adopted" by their sympathizers. The adopting family would have to guarnatee their income until they are self supporting. This would allow the "do-gooders" an opportunity to really demonstrate their committment to these truly unfortunate people whose numbers would overwhelm our tiny country in a flash.

When did we lose our compassion for the suffering of other human beings...even the "stranger in our land". It looks like the only lesson we learned from the pre-holocaust days is how to act exactly like the nations who turned their backs on the Jews. They had 'quotas'...and wouldn't let their countries be flooded by Jews no matter how desperate the migrants were. I'm not sure I would want to invite any of the migrants to my house for dinner (I don't think I'd invite you either), but that doesn't mean I want to deny them a refuge...a place to breathe, work, regain their strength for the day when they can return to their homes. I fell in love with Israel many decades ago in my youth when I spent some weeks in the country. I have continued my connections and my visits ever since. I have family and friends here, yes, including Palestinian Arab citizens. I despair at the moves towards national suicide - not because of illegal/legal African immigrants - but because of the betrayal of decent values. Do I exempt the UK or other countries from such betrayal? No, I do not, but perhaps I expected more from Israel, a young and potentially vibrant country. Instead, it is rapidly becoming like so many other states, inward-looking and narrow-minded. you guys must have the only free press in the Western world. A country is best populated by one single cohesive people.
