Israel is a nuclear power which happens to be a member of that much, much smaller club -- nuclear powers that have delivery capability. A first strike when there is no possibility of retaliation is precisely when to exercise a nuclear option. But you know what? Iran will not retaliate against Israel. For one thing, they probably won't be able to do that and, for another thing, the United States is a much more likely target. And you can forget about widening the conflict -- Iran is the head of the snake, and when that is lopped off, EVERYONE in the world benefits. Iran might survive -- barely -- a first strike, but a second strike will be lethal.
