retaking southern lebanon will achieve *nothing*. under the terms of unscr 1701, hezbollah hasn't been operating openly south of the litani river (i.e. along the border). instead, they have acquired longer range rockets, and dug in further north. (under the protection of unifil, who even offered to provide them with antiaircraft support.) this makes the whole idea of a "security buffer zone" impractical, unless you intend to take over most or all of the country. and it also makes the logistics of attacking and destroying hezbollah's bunkers much more complicated. which is not to say that zahal won't find solutions....
