61. To # 1 Why???????????//
Stan ,   Israel   (01.09.13)
Go to sleep like Rip van Winkel for say 30 years, and when you awake you will find that is exactly what the "Modern Israel" has become. (Unless some drastic changes are made to stop the Religious Extremism that is sweeping the country}
62. Draft them in the IDF
Dovid ,   Huntington new York   (01.09.13)
There's a quick solution to all of this discrimination. Draft all the Haredim in the IDF and hire black drill Sargents to whip them into shape at boot camp shaven heads and all.
63. There are better buses
Ilan   (01.09.13)
Properly everyone has the right to sit where you want and there is no excuse for what this woman suffered. However I would never recommend to anyone to take that particular bus, there are other buses that leave from the central bus station that cater to more civil people. It is a sad fact that some (and the vocal with a tendency towards violence) Hareidi see certain bus lines as their private property and have no ability to tolerate even kipa sruga type men. Better to take another bus and avoid the problem. I never take "segregated" buses, rather walk or find any other alternative.
64. Get Skunk Spray!
Beni Blanco ,   Baltimore   (01.09.13)
Give em a spritz and they start to tear up! Leaves a nice odor as well.
65. Attention deprived women looking for her moment in spotlight
Shadoil ,   Jerusalem   (01.09.13)
66. OK, did she travel on a religious bus?
michael redbourn ,   Arad Israel   (01.09.13)
And how was she dressed? I'm in no way defending the verbal attacks on her but it's perhaps important to know which bus she traveled on and to know how she was dressed. There is a bus service between Arad and Jerusalem that is for religious people but secular people can ride on it too. One of my daughters who is not Haredi has used the bus many times but is always careful to dress in a modest way so as to show respect for 90% of the people on the bus. The photo next to the article tell me nothing at all.
67. 8th Grade Journalism
RON ,   New York   (01.09.13)
YNET never ceases to amaze me in its ability to display middle school level journalism. It is an interesting topic. Too bad the writer did no research and let their personal agenda shine through. Get some decent writing staff!! Do some editing editors!
68. 66 How was she dressed Michael?
Gregg ,   Haifa IL   (01.09.13)
Probably with a mini skirt and topless.... in a middle of winter !
69. The bus driver was wrong to be difficult about letting her
Rivkah   (01.09.13)
on the bus. The males (I cannot call them men) were wrong to harass the woman unless she was dressed and adorned without modesty and got on a religious bus when there are other buses for non-religious in the Eggad bus line. Women who are dressed modestly or not put their lives in danger if they go into the city of Detroit in the USA for any reason and are warned by the police before entering the city that it is dangerous. Jews are similarly cautious about going into hostile Palestinian areas. Common sense has to be used and avoiding trouble areas such as buses or neighborhoods or cities that are hostile if possible is advised.
70. Too hot-headed-scott Stay Home
(01.09.13)
Your Not Welcomed Insighting Violence before you even step one foot in Israel! Your Comments Are OFFENSIVE in the Jewish Nation! What Happened to this young women Was Wrong. Period, but your comments Just Add Fuel To The Fire, hey lassie be careful You Might Get BURNED!
71. U better believe
Leah   (01.09.13)
Although it is hard to believe, these things happen...unfortunately. I myself saw me in a similar situation in Jerusalem, they actually started even to spit at me and call me whore. The ironic thing is, I was even dressed properly but that didn't matter to them...
72. #68 - I have no idea how she was dressed ..
michael redbourn ,   Arad Israel   (01.09.13)
Girls that go to university in the midlands of the UK amazed me. In freezing cold temperatures they wear next to nothing. And like I said my daughter has taken the same bus many times and never had a problem. And what surprised me at first is that she doesn't mind sitting at the back of the bus. And simply because she's very attractive and feels more comfortable there. And she's very liberal! And why did they call this woman a shiksa? They don't call Jewish women shicksas. Something is not right about the story. Like prosecuting Lieberman and attacking Bibi right before the elections? I really don't know about this case but I do know that the Liberal press is not to be trusted.
73. @43 Do not ever set foot on our land. You will get a real
olim hadashim ,   tel aviv/israel   (01.09.13)
problem.
74. God's wrath on the "righteous"
Dave ,   Montreal, Canada   (01.09.13)
Will be swift. If they think that spitting, cursing and discriminating is in the torah, they are so badly mistaken and punishment will be severe for performing these actions in the name of torah. Somethings it is indirect. A friend or family member will fall ill or have an accident, but it will happen.
75. #69, Police w/clubs should ride buses & ban harrassment.
Michael ,   California, USA   (01.09.13)
Dressing "without modesty" is, as they say in Detroit, "in the eyes of the beholder." Which means it is not up to you to decide. There are laws in Israel and I am sure this woman didn't violate any laws. Place police on the buses to enforce laws. In my opinion, when they called her a "goya" they complimented her beauty. It's back to the times in Israel when every good looking woman was called "Russiya." My compliments to the Goyot.
76. #58 You may be right
A ,   Belgium   (01.09.13)
but I believe my explanation more. And frankly, I didn't want to sit next to her, either.
77. In Between is the truth
Ben ,   USA   (01.09.13)
All the talkbacks miss the general issue: the woman got on a bus full of haredim. It would be problematic for a haredi to get on a bus of seculars in Tel Aviv too. A haredi cant tell all the seculars to stop mixed seating and to for the women to cover up. So why does this woman feel this is abnormal when she gets on a bus full of haredim. Not excusing the name calling and spitting, which is not right, but don't push into a crowd of haredim when you are not trying to fit in.
78. this is part of life in israel so ignore them
zionist forever   (01.09.13)
We all know there are some haredi radicals out there constantly making trouble so need to just accept thats one of those thing your never going to change Sending them to the army is not going to change the attitudes of the radical hared is Best thing to do as long as they are not being violent is ignore them, if you do they will eventually end the insults. The woman though should have told the driver if they were really getting to her so that was the mistake she made.
79. anybody that dis-respects any woman in anyway
jerome ,   basalt, colorado   (01.09.13)
no matter what she wears, deserves to be punched in the nose!!!
80. To: No. 43
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (01.09.13)
I'd purely love to see what you would do on a trip to Teheran. Oh, wait! You're going to Israel ... not Iran. Silly me! Why don't you visit Iran, too? And why don't you let the Jewish people handle our own issues without interference from you? You CHOSE to visit Israel -- please behave the way you would expect a guest to behave in Scotland. Are you under the impression that foreigners in Glasgow don't get harrassed by thugs? Happens all the time, dear. Given your short temper and hot-headedness -- of which you seem unusually proud -- perhaps you ought to stay away. Or visit Teheran.
81. part of life!!
g ,   gs   (01.09.13)
jews are good in taking everything as part of life. jews even took the mass murder as part of life and lined up quietly to the oven. let me tell something. the community where good women are not respected...is the community that is going directly to grave. we see muslims right next door and it's unfortunate we didn't learn anything from their blunder.
82. Ora , 46 . Make me grow payes and beard ?
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (01.09.13)
Maybe i'll make a Mensch of her ? Remember what you wrote : A sane person can't be "converted" to insanity . And have charedi children ? Brrrk
83. These haredi do seem wrapped too tight
Cameron ,   USA   (01.09.13)
Always reading accounts on YNET of their lousy behavior in public. Also noticed they dare don't do jack when a woman or girl has a male escorting them.
84. Provocative behavior--Miri
dmmd ,   bronx, ny. usa   (01.09.13)
Miri would not walk into a Mosque with her shoes on nor confront the pope in a mini dress. Why did she act provocatively in a Haradi bus in Israel? She should have demonstrated a sensitivity for others and less emphasis on herself.
85. 46
zionist forever   (01.09.13)
Do you know anything about Chabad? They are for the most part very tolerant of secular Jews and do not try and push anything on anybody and they do very good outreach work. Most Chabad serve in the army in units like Nahal Haredi and they work. I used to help out at the local Chabad summer camps for kids and the atmosphere was great. You got some radical haredi out there but they don't come from the Chabad movement.
86. 43 Hot-Heated Scottie: Stay home if you don't appreciate
Rivkah   (01.09.13)
the sacrifices of the Orthodox Haredim in wearing black in mourning of the Second Temple in Jerusalem that was destroyed in 70 c.e. It is a sacrifice to give up colors in one's wardrobe and to be plain in that way. The curls on the side of their heads is a COMMANDMENT of God and it is GOD they wish to please not other people in having those long sideburns and curls. They get ridiculed enough without you coming to Israel to attack them for being more righteous than you and others are, which is a protection for the nation. They choose to be modest and expect their women to be modestly attired TO PLEASE Yahweh-Yeshua, someone you do not know, the Creator of the Universe. More than half the women in the USA commit adultery and more than half the men, so taking precautions to stay faithful by making a covenant with one's eyes as Job in Scriptures did is important, as is dressing modestly. Adam and Eve were naked in the Garden of Eden but Yahweh-Yeshua God was CLOTHED and clothed modestly. The Haredim try to be like the Lord not like Satan who entices people to break the Commandments you do not cherish to the point of being ridiculed like the Haredim are. Stay home, Lassie.
87. Zionist forever 78
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (01.09.13)
Would you "ignore" them if your wife was insulted ?
88. Not an excuse , even on a "charedi" bus
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (01.09.13)
The price for this traject , line 555 the ONLY direct line , is 30 Sh. The other possibilities costs 48 [ via Beer Sheva ] or 61.5 Shekel [ via Kastina junction ] . This line is "subsidized" , for the benefit of charedim as are other "cheap" lines [ 79 . 179 , 426 and so ] So those charedim think that this bus is "theirs" , and everyone on board should follow their rules . Even on "charedi" lines , paid mostly by the contributing seculars , such a behaviour is disgusting . I'm taking often line 426 , 9 shekel instead of 15.6 [ two buses ] to Jerusalem , many charedim , women sit everywhere , without any problem .
89. #3 I have to London many times...
Avishai ,   Tel Aviv   (01.09.13)
but I avoid it if I can. You have no room to talk. Just look at your own comment if you doubt it. Get your own house in order before you accuse others of bad behavior.
90. # 43 HOT-HEADED SCOTTIE
TOUGH NUT ,   SAFED ISRAEL   (01.09.13)
We are so scared...NOT . You probably could not punch your way out of a paper bag Jimmie ,just continue to eat your haggis and keep fantasizing. If you touch one hair on the head of a jew ," black coated " or otherwise ,I will teach you some humility. You and your quick temper frighten nobody so kindly zip it and refrain from behaving in a threatening manner . Israel is perfectly able to punish any " black coats with ringlets " who step out of line without your input thank you.
