31. #19-You can't be serious, can you?
Anna ,   Montreal, Canada   (03.04.13)
Israel just can't stop giving. What do you think will happen with the Arab population of Israel? There will be a new demand for independence from Israel. It doesn't mean all Israeli Arabs want to live in Arab state. The statistics show quite opposite. But nevertheless, their MKs in Knesset are showing very disturbing behavior. Enough is enough. There must be some reasonable concessions on the other side. Just wait and see what will happen in your beloved England with the explosion of Islamic population. It's not about Jews and Arabs. It's All about religion. If you are so interested in "Palestinian problem" I'll recommend you to check the status of Arab Christians in Gaza and West Bank.
32. From DC
misaacm ,   Rockville USA   (03.04.13)
This is exactly right. The Palestinians aren't interested in a state unless it is built on the ashes of Israel. Otherwise they would have taken one of the previous offers. From the standpoint of the Arabs, the conflict is about their lost manhood, not lost land. Until that changes, there will be no peace.
33. Yes, they want revenge
Istvan ,   BUDAPEST HUNGARY   (03.04.13)
but not only against Israel for zionist successes, but also for spanish reconquista, crusades, failure of turks to rule Europe, Napoleon's egyiptian campaign, british and french colonisations. Palis are only the spearhead of this muslim revenge. Now they are on half way to conquer Europe. If they will reach 100 millions the battle will begin.
34. #23 Stan. Hiding your cowardice behind "global consensus".
Chaim ,   Israel   (03.04.13)
#23. You hide your pathetic cowardice behind "global consensus". Global consensus held Zionism was racism not many years ago. During the Hitler era, global consensus held that it wasn't worth too much effort to save Jews. It is very easy to prove, to the complete satisfaction of every fair person that Judea and Samaria belong to Israel. Countless international law experts have done so. That is what Israel must do. Most Israelis are not pathetic appeasing cowards like yourself.
35. #12. LOL...Palestine is forever fictional.
Chaim ,   Israel   (03.04.13)
#12. Salma. Surely you recall your boats that "Palestine is coming" in the months leading up to the last fictional Palestine statehood declaration. Regular readers too. You recall, Salma, I told you than that Palestine is forever fictional. Guess what! It is.
36. TO A NON COURTEOUS STAN # 22-23
FO ,   Belgium   (03.04.13)
I'm not going to linger about your lack of courtesy, but rather about your flagrant lack of knowledge of the history of YOUR OWN country. It is not my intention to fill your vacuum through this post, but I shall just give you a hint: ever heard about UNSC Resolution 242 that became the cornerstone for diplomacy in the Middle-East? Do you know who was the expert in international law who drafted this resolution? Do you know why he wrote the famous "withdrawal from territories" and not "withdrawal from THE territories"? Well, do some homework, and find out. You will discover some amazing facts concerning the history of YOUR country, that you seem to be unfortunately enough totally unaware about.
37. # 3 Salma.What claim do you have to
J.K. ,   Brooklyn USA   (03.04.13)
the land ?.even the word palestine originates from the Jewish Bible,PELISHTIM,from the word POLESH "invader" what you are, your true homeland is the Arabian peninsula.
38. Arab/Jew civil war ends with 2 States, 1 Country, P-Israel
Steve Benassi ,   Silver Bay, MN USA   (03.04.13)
39. Stan #22, 23: FO #5 is right.
Steve Klein   (03.04.13)
What does the global "consensus" have to do with Israel? What was the Global consensus at the 1938 Evian Conference? What was the consensus when it came to helping desperate Jews in occupied Europe during the early nineteen forties?
40. Genocide - not revenge
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (03.04.13)
The Arab demand has been our genocide from the start and nothing at all has ever changed. The only way that it will end is when the newest foreign colonists on our lands are defeated and deported. The Arabs are not going to be allowed to steal this land - they have already done so from Morocco to Iraq.
41. #4 Lying Lynx
yesjb ,   Canada   (03.04.13)
The only colonialism, racism and violent oppression is Muslim! Yes Israel had a people before and they were Jews, not Muslims. It must make you froth at the mouth, to see non-Muslims in control anywhere. Today Jerusalem, tomorrow the world...isn't that your holy wish? If so, you will be crushed. But first your own Muslim brethren are doing a good job already.
42. Israel needs preconditions
David M ,   New England   (03.04.13)
Israel needs to establish preconditions to counterbalance those of the palestinians. 1. Eliminate incitement and indoctrination in the schools and media. 2. Eliminate the clauses in the Hamas and Fatah charters calling for the destruction of Israel. 3. Compensation must be made for assets confiscated from those expelled from neighboring countries. Fight fire with fire.
43. another solution...
k   (03.04.13)
...the only legal one : stick to the law and apply what was set up on the Mandate : the State of Israel is from the river to the sea. There cannot be a palestinian state out of the State of Israel. /
44. #11
k   (03.04.13)
exactly, that's the problem, Obama, the EU and so forth want to see the Jews defeated, humiliated and ultimately killed, because we are "greedy" and "too powerful" and we "control the media" and we "want to dominate the world"
45. sorry FO (and Eiland), you are wrong.
dukium ,   jerusalem   (03.04.13)
The right granted to the Jewish people to settle in the mandated territories was never framed in exclusive terms. The British White Paper of June 1922 - the first document that officially clarified the interpretation of the Mandate’s text - pointed out that the Balfour Declaration does “not contemplate that Palestine as a whole should be converted into a Jewish National Home, but that such a Home should be founded ‘in Palestine’”. Zionist consent to this interpretation was requested, and received, before the Mandate was confirmed in July 1922. In Chaim Weizmann’s words: “It was made clear to us that confirmation of the Mandate would be conditional on our acceptance of the policy as interpreted in the White Paper [of 1922], and my colleagues and I therefore had to accept it, which we did, though not without some qualms”. It is only in light of these clarifications that the preamble and Article 2 of the Mandate text can and should be understood.
46. "From Israel's perspective the solution has 1 main problems"
carl ,   congo   (03.04.13)
"From Israel's perspective the solution has 1 main problems": it cannot to free steal the natural resources of the WB
47. shallow and superficial editorial
shalom   (03.04.13)
"The most important thing is that we will not be blamed for its failure"...from your warm house in Tel Aviv this is probably understandable..
48. "we will not rest until we destroy the Zionist entity."
A ,   Belgium   (03.04.13)
And that is all anyone needs to know about the "palestinian" attitude towards peace with Israel. They can go look for their piece in Jordan where they belong.
49. #23
k   (03.04.13)
The borders of Israel are not subject to the desires of other countries, in fact presidentes or dictators. Israel legal borders are instead based on international law. Again, read before talking
50. dukium #45: Why do you quote from Palestinian propaganda?
Steve   (03.04.13)
51. the important thing
arne ,   chicago usa   (03.04.13)
we will not be blamed for it's failure--(the last sentence). only after making the most painfull concessions and signing a peace agreement with the pals on their terms and then sit back and wait for them to break the peace and then and only then can israel deliver the final blow and settle the issues for many years to come.
52. #46 And what "natural resources of the WB"
A ,   Belgium   (03.04.13)
are you refering to...gold, oil, uranium, diamonds, nutrient rich soil? Guess what...there are hardly any natural resources in the West Bank (and learn to call it Judah and Samaria), its almost all dry rocks. Ok, olives and oranges, hardly wealth bringing resources. Ever been there? I have, I lived there. And you should do some homework before trying to impress everyone with your ignorance
53. I have a great idea
Rotem ,   Israel   (03.04.13)
Let's send all of those "Palestineans" to Norway and Sweden. They seem to like them very much, so why not...?
54. TAKE IT EASY, DUKIUM # 45
FO ,   Belgium   (03.04.13)
Nobody asked them, and in fact the British had no right for an interpretation of the Mandate's text. They had to follow and respect the road map imposed by the 28 articles of the League of Nations Mandate. What they did not! The British, with their colonial spirit, betrayed the Jewish people as well as the League of Nations by breaching Article 5, by ceding the Golan Heights to the French Mandate of Syria, and by creating an artificial country, Jordan, by amputating the Jewish National Home (to become an independent state) by 77% of its territory. Furthermore, Britain breached Article 6, by limiting and intending in 1939 to stop definitely Jewish immigration to Palestine. This made Hitler's task of exterminating European Jewry much easier.
55. Questions for Salma, Lynx and sami
Alexander ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (03.04.13)
What "Palestinian" people are you talking about? And what "occupation" are you talking about? Occupation according to International Law means that State A has conquered State B as a result of war. No "Palestinian" state existed in 1967, 1949, 1948, 1947, or 100, 200, 500, 1000, 5000, 10.000 or 100.000 years ago. You use the invented "Palestinian" people as an excuse to hate and destroy Israel. You care nothing for the "Palestinians". 1) Why is "Palestine" a Roman/Latin name? 2) Why is there no letter "p" in Arabic? 3) Nationalism is alien to Arabs who have, for 1400 years, lived as nomads and Beduins in multi-ethnic and multi-racial "Arab" empires whose majority population - locals, subjects, soldiers, mercenaries, scientists, mathematicians, physicians and merchants, were no ethnic Arabs, merely Arab speaking Persians, Kurds, Turks, Jews, Berbers and Africans. Why is that? 4) There is no "Palestine" in the Bible or the Koran. Why? 5) The Bible and the Koran BOTH admit that Israel is the Jewish homeland. How come? 6) Jewish/Israelite history started 2000 B.C.E in Israel - 4000 years ago. Arab history of the original Arabians, started in the 7th century C.E. 1400 years ago, in the southwestern corner of the Arabian peninsula, hundreds of kilometers away from Israel, 2600 years AFTER the start of Jewish civilization. How can Arabs be the "natives" of Israel? 7) Most Arabs arrived in Israel as recently as the 1920s, 1930s and 1940s. How is that ancient history and how does that make "Palestinians" the "natives"? 8) When and where exactly did a "Palestinian" state, republic, nation state, kingdom, city state, duchy, principality or empire exist in recorded history, what are the names of kings and dynasties, cities, towns, villages and currency and why is there not a single ancient civilization mentioning anywhere any "Palestinian" state, civilization, nation or people? So my question is: if there is no "Palestine" or "Palestinian" people, nation, Culture or civilization in World history, and if the "Palestinians" are actually multi-ethnic Arab speaking Moslems who have already 22 Arab states, why do you need tiny Israel which will not significantly add to your massive land mass and is de facto a country where you are the foreigners, why do you Arabs need Israel? You can settle down at any moment in Arab state and feel at home. So you actually defend Arab imperialism against the historical rights of the Jewish people and Jewish national self determination? You support Israel's destruction? You support genocide on the Jewish people? So you want to steal our land and history, you want to destroy our people and our country, and you are whining about you being "victims" and "freedom fighters"? Yeah right...
56. To: No. 45
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (03.04.13)
Of course, the War of Independence changed everything, didn't it? You cannot put toothpaste back into the tube. The Yishuv accepted partition; the Arabs did not. They chose to go to war instead. They lost. End of story.
57. #9etc SALMA SHOULD BE INVITED TO OBAMA WELCOME TO TELL HIM
Alan ,   SA   (03.04.13)
THIS She should be fetched in a Limousine and brought to the Obama Welcome Party so that she can tell him this important thought of herself and fellow Arabs. Look at Syria. Imagine what Arabs would do to us ,if thats what they do to each other I read that Kerry left Egypt yesterday in great disappointment at the MB and Morsi and Baddy
58. To: David at No. 19
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (03.04.13)
I respectfully beg to disagree. Your proposal would turn international convention and law on its ear. Isn't it enough that Israel gave back Sinai and withdrew from Gaza? Uprooting the Jews from the Sinai and Gush Qatif was difficult enough, and the numbers aren't nearly as large as what Israel would be facing in Judea and Samaria. Judea and Samaria are nonsovereign territories, reacquired by Israel in the course of fighting a defensive war against Jordan. The land is Israel's to settle, retain and even annex. Ehud Barak hinted very strongly at annexation and that, quite frankly, is the logical solution. The Arabs residing in Judea and Samaria are not stateles; rather, they are Jordanian citizens, courtesy of Jordan's 1954 Citizenship Law, which bestowed Jordanian citizenship to all West Bank Arabs and their progeny irrevocably. Why would you require Israel to withdraw from Judea and Samaria? Don't you think that there should be consequences accruing to those who wage wars of aggression? Why should the ersatz "Palestinians" be granted a blanket exemption from those consequences? How far do you think you would get if you demanded that Poland cede East Prussia back to Germany? How far do you think you would get if you demanded that Croatia cede the province of Istria back to Italy? Why should the Arabs get a free pass as a reward for having started (and lost) six wars? Why should they not have to bear the consequences of seven decades of unremitting terror, visited upon Jews both in the State of Israel and in the Diaspora? It is not a demographic time bomb. Israel will simply have to do what is necessary and just and perfectly in keeping with international convention, law and precedent -- keep the land and repatriate the foreign nationals who will, upon annexation, instantly acquire the status of undesirable aliens. Will the international community be up in arms? Most likely. Will they get over it? Yes. Besides -- where were all the bleeding hearts when nearly one million Jews were expelled from their homes in Arab and Moslem lands with little more than the clothes on their backs? Anti-Semitism hasn't gone away, David, it has merely morphed into hatred of that most tangible of all Jewish symbols -- the sovereign State of Israel. The operative word being "sovereign." If Israel were to pay attention to the wishes of the international community, we would simply roll over and disappear. Perhaps that will be their next demand. But Israel is here to stay, and, having emerged victorious in six wars it did not start, has every right to treat a vanquished people as a vanquished people. Annexing nonsovereign territory and repatriating undesirable aliens is certainly well within Israel's rights as a sovereign state.
59. Salma no 3
JUDAH THE LION ,   JEWS FIGHT LIKE LION   (03.04.13)
I am very happy that you are showing your true colour. You will not get 1 mm from our land. You tried for 65 years to destroy us but failed. How many times did the Jews kicked your asses against all odds.
60. To nr 45 - Sorry but you are wrong
Alexander ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (03.04.13)
Try to read "The Legal Foundation and Borders of Israel under International Law" by Howard Grief. Not only does Israel/the Jewish people have 4000 years of history in Israel which includes Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, Gaza, Eastern Jordan and Southern Lebanon, but Israel also has LEGAL rights to these lands. Two legally binding treaties recognized by international law called the San Remo treaty (signed April 1920 in San Remo, Italy) and the Anglo-American treaty signed by UK and USA on the 3rd of December 1924 in London UK - BOTH stipulate the legally defined borders of the Jewish state as: CIS-JORDAN, TRANS-JORDAN and SOUTHERN LEBANON UP UNTIL THE BEND OF THE LITANI RIVER. Needless to say, the rights of non Jews had to be protected just like the rights of foreigners and minorities have to be protected in European states as well. However, the San Remo treaty and the Anglo -American treaty made it very clear that the legally defined borders are Cis-Jordan, Trans-Jordan and Southern Lebanon up until the bend of the Litani river. These are the stipulated legally defined borders in two legally binding treaties. Violating these two legally binding treaties is a de facto violation of international law. If you claim that Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, Gaza, Southern Lebanon and Jordan is "Arab property" you are 1) lying 2) distorting 4000 years of Jewish history and 3) violating two legally binding treaties. You are simply ignoring history and international law. The legality of Israel's borders is based NOT on the UN resolutions but on the San Remo treaty and the Anglo-American treaty. There is something in international law called the "Doctrine of Estoppel". It simply means that the doctrine stops nations from violating legally binding treaties that have been agreed to and signed. It's not "illegal" for Israel to expel the Arabs. It is illegal for the World to insist that Israel "must" keep its Arab population against its will and it's illegal for the World to deny Israel the full legal and historical right to Cis-Jordan, Trans-Jordan and Southern Lebanon up until the bend of the Litani river. And history and international law BOTH support Israel no matter if you hate or love Israel.
