61. #3, Salma...a BIG smack for you...you said
Chris Rettenmoser ,   Bayerisch Gmain Germ   (03.04.13)
it all...You just reminded the leftists about being DEAD wrong...!
62. Stan @23, give it time.
Leo ,   Usa   (03.05.13)
63. YES! An article telling it like it is
William ,   Israel   (03.05.13)
Even with a peace agreement in hand, both Arafat and Abbas indicated they wanted Israel to bleed with endless demands. As always, the "Palestinians" prove they are not for peaceful co-existence but rather to replace an existing UN member sovereign State. Something the majority of their supporting voters at the UN disapprove of. Arabs were never known for compromise and diplomacy which is why the only tactics they know, and underscored in the Koran are, all out victory and destruction of enemies, and taqqiyah - a temporary cease-fire until Muslims are strong enough to have all-out victory and destruction of enemies. sadly, this doesn't bode well for the "Palestinians" who have lost so often they forgot why and use the same failing tactics.
64. #38 - Lebanon was a civil war
William ,   Israel   (03.05.13)
This is an Arab war of genocide and they're failing at it. The Lebanese civil war was between Lebanese citizens and result in a delicate power sharing. The Israeli Arab war is about Arab racism-driven war to exterminate Jews from the land and destroy their nation-State.
65. #12 - well you have until 2016 to convince him
William ,   Israel   (03.05.13)
So far, he doesn't look like he will budge towards the "destroy Israel" agenda you purport.
66. To: No. 23
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (03.05.13)
And were "global consensus" to decree that Israel has no right to exist and should be dismantled immediately -- what would be your response? I await your reply with baited breath.
67. Blame game?
Harry ,   Sweden   (03.05.13)
" The most important thing is that we will not be blamed for its failure." Eiland, an excellent analysis, except for the above quoted. The truth is that nothing Israel ever does will keep the world from blaming Israel for the failure of the peace process.
68. #10
Rau   (03.05.13)
And the settlers can return to Eastern Europe/Russia. They have proven history of where they came from.
69. #45 - and so the Palestine mandate was split
William ,   Israel   (03.05.13)
between a Jewish State west of the Jordan and an Arab State east of the Jordan. That fits exactly with your claim that the Jewish homeland be founded "in Palestine". That was also presented to the members of the League of Nations which voted in the majority in favor of it. Which, by the way, is more legitimacy than any other Mandate given to Britain after WWI. It was the UN under pressure from the Arab bloc and Britain that offered to divide the Jewish homeland further, violating their own Charter, in 1947. Going back to the 1922 vote negates an Arab State inside Judea/Samaria.
70. To: No. 4
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (03.05.13)
You should have taken the partition deal in 1947, and the three times since it has been proffered. But no, you chose to go to war instead. Six times. You lost, all six times. Shut up. No more bites at the apple for you. There are consequences to waging wars of aggression and engaging in seven decades of unremitting terror. The ersatz "Palestinians" are not immune from those consequences. The sooner you realize this and move on with your lives, the better. We're through talking with an unrepentant terrorist rabble. We will simply exercise our right as the victor in six wars -- all of them started by Arabs -- and annex nonsovereign Judea and Samaria and repatriate your sorry asses to Jordan, country of your citizenship. Just how long did you think you could sow the wind without having to reap the whirlwind? Well, your day in the sun is over. No one pays attention to a bunch of whiny terrorists. The world has real problems to address, and the ersatz "Palestinians" are going to be relegated to a historical footnote. And you have only your violent selves to blame.
71. #46 - what free resources of the West Bank?
William ,   Israel   (03.05.13)
Gold? Diamonds? Oil? Gas? If you know where they are, please share.
72. US Should Embaro Aid to PA
Mark of Lewiston ,   USA   (03.05.13)
Th the US should stop its own aid and use what influence we have to embargo all aid to Palestine from any source but Israel. If the two sides want to resolve issues, fine. The two sides can figure out how. If not, too bad. Not the US concern. The US is neither side's hammer. The US has its own problems.
73. Peace in the holy land
Ravi ,   Chandigarh... India   (03.05.13)
With the Eiland ruling out the 2 state solution as workable, the only alternative left is a one state solution between the river and the sea, a common homeland for the Jews and the Palestinians. As the CIA predicts this one state will become a reality by 2025, as the 2 state solution is dead
74. The US agenda
Jack Nelson ,   Pine Bluff, US   (03.05.13)
It's no surprise that the US wants to advocate for an anti-Israel state to exists. We have a president that has supported and appointed muslim brotherhood members and who himself, on video, has said that he is muslim. I hope Israel continues to fight against this sort of tyranny and misconceived notions.
75. To #58: the west bank is ours; we can give it away
David ,   Cambridge, MA   (03.05.13)
Sarah, I agree with you; we have an unambiguous historical right to the WB and there is a decent legal argument that we have a modern right to it. If the Israeli government in 1967 had been more "like all the nations" (1 Samuel 8:6) it would have annexed the WB and expelled the Palestinians. But one of the things that distinguishes us Jews is that we aren't like all the nations (that incident in Samuel is disapproved of by the Rabbis); we think about what is moral as well as what is legal. I believe that even though we have a right to the WB, we can demonstrate a greater morality by giving it to others who live there. Not because the Palestinians have earned it by their behavior but because we don't need it. In this age of long range missiles it adds no security. And maintaining sovereignty there is costing Israel heavily in money and time, and warping the culture. Let's expel the Palestinians the easy way, by expelling the land they're on.
76. #72. Demand end to ALL Israeli aid to terrorist P.A.
Chaim ,   Israel   (03.05.13)
#72. You are right on target. American aid to the genocidal terrorist P.A. is obscene. But what can we say about Israeli aid to the P.A.? This is the most obscene of the obscene. Incredibly, Israel showers the P.A. with money, electricity, materials of all kinds, food etc. as the P.A. demonizes Israel around the world and plans to mass murder us all and steal our sole tiny Homeland. Never before, in all of human history, has any other state been dumb enough to support its enemies!!!!!!!
77. US AND MIDDLE EAST.
SJOERD VAN DER VELDE ,   HOORN NH, HOLLAND   (03.05.13)
IN PRINCIPLE WASHINGTON DC ( US-ADMINISTRATION AND CONGRESS) HAVE THEIR OWN AMERICAN BUSINESS TO WORRY ABOUT, AS EVERY INDEPENDANT, SOVEREIGN NATION-STATE, WITH SELF-DETERMINATION HAS. IN THIS SITUATION AND CIRCUMSTANCE, EVERY COUNTRY HAS TO AVOID LECTURING/MEDDLING IN THE AFFAIR OF ANY OTHER STATE, AS DECIDED IN 1945, BY THE UNITED NATIONS AND BI-LATERALY. ONLY IN A DANGEROUS, LIFE-THREATENING EVENT, A SOLUTION ON AN INTERNATIONAL LEVEL CAN BE SETTLED, AS THE GLOBAL UNITED NATIONS STILL IS AN INTER-GOVERNMENTAL AND INTERNATIONAL/MULTINATIONAL ORGANIZATION, STILL LACKING/WITHOUT STRENGHTENED, DEMOCRATICAL, SUPREME, TRANSNATIONAL, SUPRANATIONAL AUTHORITY, TO SERVE AND TO PROTECT EVERY MEMBER-COUNTRY/PEOPLE AND THE ENTIRE MANKIND AND LIVING- ENVIRONMENT.
78. Comment 4 to article "Things you can't see from DC"
George Weiss ,   Teaneck, USA   (03.05.13)
The Arabs are the most colonialist, racist and oppressive people in the world and have no right to complain like little children when they do not get their way.
79. #72 Mark of Lewiston
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (03.05.13)
Damnit Mark you went and broke the record. I have to agree with every word you wrote for the first time. Are you feeling well?
80. to #55 true the Palestinians were created by Britain and so
bob k ,   orlando usa   (03.05.13)
were the Saudis, Libyans, Kuwaitis, Omanis, Iraqis, Jordainians, United Arab Emirates. France created the Algerians, Moroccans, Tunisians, Lebanese, Syrians. Only Egypt existed since antiquity and mostly as a non-Arab stae. Actually the original 'Palstinians' were the Jews of Roman occupied Israel who were renamed Palestinian in132 C.E. Many nations have been created, that's OK that's history but he Arabs and many other Moslems want to destroy the Jews because Islam sees Jews as inferiors along with Christians. That is the problem, The solution is self-defense. The Moslems can't change.
81. Things you can't see from DC
George Weiss ,   Teaneck, USA   (03.05.13)
This is an excellent editorial and explains why all attempts have failed. Until something fundamental changes, there will be no Peace, only a never ending process. Why can't Bibi say this to the Americans?
82. comment 1 to "Things you can't see from DC" article
George Weiss ,   Teaneck, USa   (03.05.13)
You are wrong about the PA. there is no difference in the ultimate goal of the PA and Hamas. The only difference is whether the Arabs take over all at once or step by step.
83. To All Commentators Regarding #3
Harold ,   USA   (03.05.13)
There are thousands like Selma saying the same words so I suggest Israel goes back to its 1948 bordered to extinguish the fire. Hope President Obama solves this 46 years old problem when he visits Israel.
84. To: No. 83
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (03.05.13)
1948 borders? 46 year old problem? How did you ever manage to pass first grade?
85. #84 Selma B
Harold ,   USA   (03.06.13)
Are you using a microscope when reading people's comments. The year should have been 1967 and not the date Israel was created in 1948. Moreover the way you act and complain shows that a first grader is more polite and educated than you are.
86. No thanks!
michael Pielet ,   israel   (03.06.13)
Hamas in Gaza, Hezbollah in Lebanon why would israel want to promote or even allow an arab terrorist state in Judea and Samaria that would be a proxy for the ultimate terrorist state, IRAN. No to a terrorist state that threatens Jerusalem and Gush Dan.
87. Revisionist, stanley.
michael Pielet ,   israel   (03.06.13)
Stanley, #24 you are a revisionist. You modify and twist history to meet your needs. What if Israel did not hold the Golan Heights, Judea and Samaria and the Sinai in October of 1973? You would have had Syrian tanks in Tiberias, Egyptian tanks in Tel Aviv, and Jordanian tanks in Jerusalem. Next time you make up history, remember you can fool yourself, but you cannot fool me!
88. How can any sane Israel Jew support Two State Final Solution
Chaim ,   Israel   (03.06.13)
It is obvious to any child, capable of reading a map, that the Two State Final Solution would destroy Israel within a decade. How can any sane Israeli Jews support this abomination? Israeli Jews who support this monstrous evil must have a death wish.
89. #5 nothing reaffirmed in article 80
Myconius ,   L'wd   (03.07.13)
Article 80 isn't about Palestine, but about mandate-trritories in general. No borders are discussed in this article, nor in the preceding ones. Besides this error, you make another one; The Legeu of Nations never established something called Israel. It merely noted the jewish aspirations, not deciding it.
