31. #12 Dvorah, in hebrew god is spelled
Yossef   (03.13.13)
אל (El) or אלוה (Eloah) or אלה (Alah). You can check with your rabbi or look at wikipedia. The jewish god is just Alah, the same god with the muslim, the same... I'm sorry Dvorah but the Jews are a kind of Arabs, look at a map, Israel is just the mediterranean coast of the arabian peninsula. And read the Torah, Ismael was first, before Ytzhak at the burial of their father Avraham. It is because you think that you are an european that everything is wrong with you. WE ARE ARABS, Dvorah, but jewish.
32. To #24 editan
Pedro ,   Brasil   (03.13.13)
you are like a muslim journalist who can't recognize the truth, interviewing people who never tell the truth, for people who don't want to hear the truth. As Einstein once said, there is no limit to human stupidity and you are a good example
33. Like Hagia Sofia?
Colorado ,   USA   (03.13.13)
Wasn't the Temple Mount "Dome of the Rock" originally a Christian holy site? WAY before the Moslems took it over and hid all the symbolism with Moslem "art"? I'm wondering, because a very brilliant art historian/professor of mine said it was completely obvious because of the architecture. Anyone know for certain? Cuz' if it was...well that might certainly change things a bit. Doubt Christians would be playing soccer and throwing rocks and bricks at worshipers.
34. I've a better idea.
Michael Steiner ,   Bahrain   (03.13.13)
Since this is the 21st century and time is ripe for the humankind to stop believing in fairytales and worshiping rocks, how about we bulldoze the whole damn thing -- their mosque and our wall -- and build a massive shopping mall instead? :)
35. Hey writer, you know nothing of truth.
Wake up ,   Israel   (03.13.13)
Christians worship at the eternal throne that is still in heaven. Someday soon to be lowered to the earth. There is no holy place on earth. Abraham longed to see a city whose builder was God, one not made with human hands and that which is not seen is the real place the tent of meeting and the 2 temples were just a shadow of the one to come. We love Israel and Know their importance to God as the light of the world, and His beloved. These Arabs we know about them too. The rejected, to be trouble for the whole world. But they are not partakers of the Promise to Abraham and the good that is to come to Israel and the whole world. Anyone can clearly see how they are fulfilling their role and wild beasts created for capture and destruction. Don't dis me Y-net post this! some truth for once.
36. #2 - hooray! You found one out of millions
William ,   Israel   (03.13.13)
Pat yourself on the back.
37. #11 - Are you sure of your dates?
William ,   Israel   (03.13.13)
The Temple Mount was built about the time of Solomon, which held the first Jewish Temple. The walls of the Mount were reinforced by Herod but that is still many years before the Byzantine era. Perhaps you're thinking of structures in the Old City surrounding the Temple Mount. She did say that the temple could be re-built elsewhere on the Temple Mount. I didn't see any surprise there. However, there are competing theories about the location of the Temple in relation to the Dome of the Rock, either north or south. One theory has the Temple south of the Dome of the Rock, over Gihon Spring based on the claim that an inexhaustible source of water flowed in the Temple. This is the only spring located inside Old City Jerusalem.
38. #20 - not entirely true
William ,   Israel   (03.13.13)
In Spain, there was never a time when Jews, Christians, and Muslims prayed together. They were all kept separate and a dhimmi status did exist for non-Muslims, even if some non-Muslims made it to higher positions in govt and business. It can only be considered a "Golden period" when seen in relation to the periods before and after. This came to an end when a Salafist invasion form N. Africa came and destroyed Al-Andalusia, killing many Jews, forcing conversions, and killing even more moderate Muslims they claimed were heretics. That occurred in the 11th century and culminated centuries of war between Muslims and Christians, which eventually Christians won.
39. #25 - It's never been an Arab vision....
William ,   Israel   (03.13.13)
else the Dome of the Rock wouldn't be sitting on the Mount in the first place. Nor would hundreds of other mosques built on the ruins of Hindu temples, Christian churches, Jewish synagogues, Zoroastrian temples, etc. which Arabs destroyed. I think the most accurate vision of the Arab Muslims is the destroyed Bhudda statues in Afghanistan and the UNSECO site in Timbuktu.

Your posts seem full of resentment and hate. Why? What is your background? How much of the Bible and/or Talmud have you read? I am asking this because based on everything I know, and especially what I have learned reading in the Bible, the Jews obviously did NOT choose themselves to "be the CHOSEN people". I don't think it would be humanly possible for any people to accomplish what the descendants of Jacob have accomplished. Furthermore, the more I read the Tanakh, the more sense the history of the Jews makes. As far as pride is concerned, the theme throughout the Tanakh is "The Holy One of Israel gives grace to the humble, but punishes the proud". Looking forward to your answer.
41. I am not interested in burnt offerings!
Mark ,   London, UK   (03.13.13)
We have managed without them for 2000 years and this is one bit of history we can do without.
42. Dismantle both mosques and rebuild
Norbus ,   Jerusalem   (03.13.13)
them between Macca and Madina.. Danger then is that some crazy Jews will want to rebuild a Temple and reinstitute animal sacrifice, I would like to see use of the mount as a contemplation spot which inspired many a Prophet
43. secular jews do not want a temple
besalel ,   great neck   (03.13.13)
What the author fails to realize is that the reason israelis do not share this dream is ecause israelis are secular at their core and do not want a temple or worship. They would prefer a mall or a club where jews and arabs can shop together but alas peace will come to tht region only through religion and god and not through politics .
44. I can accept the Al Aqsa mosque, not the Dome of the Rock
Jake ,   USA   (03.13.13)
The Al Aqsa mosque can remain where it is, but the Dome of the Rock is a deeply offensive symbol of foreign occupation, and it must be relocated off the Temple Mount.
45. @23, should the Church of the Nativity should be moved to
Golden Dome ,   Washington, USA   (03.13.13)
And Israel should be carved out of Germany?
46. #31 - nice try, but wrong
William ,   Israel   (03.13.13)
Abraham came from Ur, which was not Arab at the time but rather tribes from Central Asia and the Indo-Persian region. Same too with those that invaded and crossed the area of Israel for trade - Assyrians, Egyptians, Persians, etc. - NONE of them are Arab. Even the populations in Israel at the time the Israelites arrived and conquered it were from Greek, Asia Minor, and Syrian areas. DNA tests further dispute your claim, which show Jews and Arabs as cousins, not brothers, indicating a non-direct match. Remember, Ishmael's mother was the Arab, not Abraham, and Issac's mother was of local stock.
47. New Vision? BCE 540! Pharisees (Ribi Yehoshua) 30 CE!
Paqid Yirmeyahu ,   netzarim.co.il   (03.13.13)
48. A real working 3rd Temple would be a spiritual slaughterhous
miki ,   tampa   (03.13.13)
Hundreds if not thousands of animals would be ritually slaughtered every day (we Jews have 2000 years of sin to atone for and almost the same number since 1948) then burned in the open air. Who would run the place? Haredim? N. Bennet? The Ministry of Religion? Reform Jews prohibited of course. Worst idea EVER! God, G-D, and Allah are all one in the same despite Christian-Jewish-Muslim fanatics claiming otherwise.
49. @33
Elon   (03.13.13)
The Dome of the Rock was originally an Islamic Shrine, but the Crusaders turned into a church. Saladin restored it. And it was expanded by the Turks much later.

Sagi   (03.13.13)
will never be attainable as long as religion controls the minds of men. All the posters here are in denial of one thing, namely that for thousands of years, millions of people have been slaughtered, maimed, tortured and enslaved over the concept of holiness, that a mount and a stone should be more important than a human life is in my opinion the epitome of the stupidity of Man.
52. temple mount
dishwan ,   sri-lanka   (03.13.13)
it was a pleasure to read this article as today we see only hatred in the name of religion, we all wait for the day when prophet Zachariyah verse 3:9 comes to reality
53. Rebuild the temple...
shachar Shalev ,   Eilat   (03.13.13)
As a non-religious left-wing Jew I am in favour of rebuilding the Temple. As a sovereign nation we have the right to build the Temple and a historical duty to build the third temple. I think it should be done over the City of David site, the most likely site of the first temple. All the myriad of ethnic and Halachic problems can be ironed out on the way. If we had worried about problems before forming the state of Israel we would never have made it. A secular Gov't could build and control the third Temple and the religious will probably curse them for every stone laid. But once it is finished the same curses will flock there, just as they did when we built the state.
54. Your Phrase.Think of the waste of energy and resources!
Tim ,   Brighton   (03.13.13)
Well heres a thought A brave Middle East Economist last year tried to quantify.... How much money has the Region spent on its wars, how much could we have saved and how much better off would we be if we learned to resolve our differences peacefully? How does $ 22 TRILLION sound? It would be impossible to go into detail as to how this was arrived at...but give or take a few TRILLION the Middle East could by now be Land of Milk and Honey Theres STILL time
55. To: No. 50
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (03.13.13)
I have a much better idea. How about we dynamite that ugly blue eyesore and build our temple where it belongs? After all, the eternal capital city of the State of Israel is called "Jerusalem the Golden" for a reason. You can rebuild that ridiculous looking mosque in Mecca.
56. To: No. 24
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (03.13.13)
"Delicate sensibilities?" Sorry to disappoint you, but we're much, much smarter than average and are a little disinclined to want to hold hands and sing Kumbayah with terrorist slime.
57. #31 - Yossef
Devorah   (03.13.13)
I know how G-d is spelled. Let me rephrase it for you: "Tired of her putting the writings of Muhammed on a par with the G-d of Israel." We are not Arabs, Yossef. So Ishmael was the firstborn. So what? The birthright went to Yitzhak, and we descend from his line. I hope you read William's comment (#46). Also, I don't think I'm European, and I don't think everything is wrong with me. What I do think is that your reasoning is bizarre.
58. Radical idea
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (03.13.13)
First off there is nothing holy to Muslims in all of Israel period. That is from Islamic scholars. They like their structures which is fine - let them have them - in their own countries. Lets post a sign: For sale two Islamic structures on Temple Mount - free to whomever wants to remove them to a Muslim country - 56 to choose from.
59. # 33
M. Davison ,   Ra'anana, Israel   (03.13.13)
Your professor, like the editor of this article, confused the Dome of the Rock with the al-Aqsa mosque. The al-Aqsa mosque was indeed originally a Byzantine church. The Dome of the Rock (aka Mosque of Umar) was built after the Muslim conquest of Jerusalem, finished in the 8th century and intended as a basis for moving the "headquarters" of Islam from Mecca to Jerusalem. Hint: al-Aqsa is the grey dome (made of lead) and the Dome of the Rock is the golden one.
60. Theology
Amber Glass ,   Everywhere   (03.13.13)
Either theology is not her strong suit, or her career writing exclusively for the Jewish press has it's peaks and valleys..
