A "Palestinian state" is an impossibility, because it would be economically unsustainable. The only way to resolve the problem is to allow repatriation of the Arabs to their Motherland: the Arab Peninsula.
32. Justice for the Shoah
Zivron   (03.14.13)
Before the Shoah one could argue that the Jews ought seek sanctuary in the Islamic lands and reinvent the Golden age .Jews could have helped modernise Islam in medicine Technology even Defense within the Traditional Islamic framework.but the islamdid not open the gates to refugee neither in Palestine Iraq Iran or Afhanistan.the Islam said we have enough Jew.After the Shoah Humanity Supported the Partition Islam on the whole rejected it.
33. All these arguments are irrelevant to two-state solution
Shachar Shalev ,   Eilat   (03.14.13)
What Palestinians and Israeli's think or believe is completely irrelevant. Israel does not want or need 3-4 million Palestinians as Israeli citizens and despite controlling the areas these people live for 46 yrs has not annexed the land or the people living there. Every citizen of the world should have a sovereign gov't (preferably elected) that provides services and makes decisions concerning their future. Two states is the way to correct a situation where a large population without a gov't or basic rights. Once you have two sovereign gov'ts they can iron out the problems between them.
34. Why the Left //Socialists aren't right!
tiki ,   belgium   (03.14.13)
Winston Churchill had the answer! Socialism is a philosophy of failure, The creed of ignorance, The Gospel of envy, It's inherent virtue: The equal sharing of misery! The leftist ''believers are living prove of the wisdom of his words!

Yaffa ,   Israel   (03.14.13)
Yes, the Jews refer to themselves as nation, and not just a religion. I know it is confusing. But in saying so, the Jews refer to the people of Israel that have been scattered among the nation. Israel must call itself a Jewish state if only because the countries that surround it and consider themselves as Muslim countries. For example the full name of Egypt is: 'The Islamic Republic of Egypt', 'The Islamic Republic of Iran' and so on. Furthermore some Arabic countries are 'free' of Christians like Jordan (about 7 years ago there were Christians citizens, not guests, who lived there. But their neighbors 'Encouraged' them to leave. In Lebanon once a country with Christian majority, its Christians are leaving too. So what choice do we have other than being a Jewish State?
36. To: No. 20
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (03.14.13)
Get your facts straight. The British offered Uganda. The British also offered Madagascar. Both were rejected out of hand. Did you think that Jews have forgotten where Jerusalem is? Shut up. You're a jackass. The Jewish right to Israel is historically and archaeologically incontrovertible. It is our land. It always has been. And, more importantly, it always will be.
37. To understand the left follow the money
Zev ,   Israel   (03.14.13)
and gaining the approval of the anti-Jewish world. History keeps repeating itself.
38. Israel needs a limited democracy !!! with a constitution to
naftules ,   jerusalem   (03.14.13)
One state for all people with A proper constitution with unamenable clauses could enable israel to exist as a demacratic jewish state if the arabs would give up their plan to eliminate us. an example of that would be that first clause says Israel is the jewish homeland and jewish state that give rights to all citizens. additional clause is that Any political group or organization that sees to alter or destroy Clause #1 is illegal. that means that arab parties who want to better the lives of their constituants can, as long as they dont seek to destroy israel. Parties who seek to hurt israel as a jewish state would be illegal and the could be expelled. Example of counties who are democratic and do this are Japan and now Germany which made some political groups illegal who are trying to bring sharia law to Germany. Demacracy comes today in many forms , Israel can be creative and form a democratic county that protects itself and also has the ability to make non-jewish citizens feel appreciated and successful in life.

41. Trotski was an unsavoury person
Sagi   (03.14.13)
but a man of indisputable talent and great intellect. He said,"The pen is mightier than the sword". "Religion is the opium of the masses". Religion is used by politicians to manipulate the feeble minds of the public. What we have in the Israel/Palestinian conflict is the absolute incarnation of Trotski's words. The two pens are the Torah and the Koran. The opium comes from the pages of these books and also from the mouths of the Imams and to a lesser degree from the"holy men of Judaism". This is a recipe for continual confrontation, exactly what has been happening up till now and it will continue. The sharper sword will win the battle but the pen will win the war. It is now a question of whose pen etched the deepest impression. Left or right have nothing to do with the outcome, they are both wrong, both their ways have no bearing on the matter in hand.

Volvi   (03.14.13)
I choose point number 3 + 4. Thats Israel takes over all of Judea and Samaria at a time when the world is embroiled in a war or were in a major one. Then drive out the arab residents over to Jordan, there they can create as much of a palestinian state to their hearts content. In the end mark my words this WILL happen, only a question of when. For in the end this is the only solution no matter which way you twist and turn.
44. #24. Annexing Judea/Samaria is bold and right.
Chaim ,   Israel   (03.14.13)
Annexing liberated Judea and Samaria is bold and right. The last thing Israel wants is more leftist lunacy. Leftist appeasement and retreats are the root cause of virtually all Israel's problems. Including all our Lebanon and Gaza Wars, thousands of rockets from Lebanon and Gaza, thousands of Israeli casualties from "peace talks with Palestinians"...
45. #33. End all support for P.A. & pay "Palestinians" to leave.
Chaim ,   Israel   (03.14.13)
#33. Is is obvious to any child, who can read a map, that the Two State Final Solution would destroy Israel within a decade. It is intended to render Israel defenseless and ultimately destroy Israel. Nobody is fooled by the bogus "Arab demographic bomb" you alluded to. It is a proven hoax. The answer is to end all Israeli support for Fictional Palestine and pay "Palestinians" only to leave our land forever.
46. 2 state and gas chambers
marcel   (03.14.13)
it is pretty obvious that calic has nailed down the nub of the story. So why continue with it? Elements in israel like livni and the whole bloody group at haaretz feel they can move the arabs over time to a democratic modus vivendi. Hell, they have not changed in 2000 years. and ehud barak correctly assessed that they lie genetically, not deliberately. So if anything israel has to take the initiative and essentially do what bennett says and tohell with the US who needs israel as much as the other way around. Annex area C and start paying arabs to leave of their own free will. And tv signals should be broadcast to them educating them on how they are the foreign occupiers. Most of them don't know it. Bibi is on his way out thankfully and livni will be constrained. and if labour threatens to move in to replace beennett, then likud can drop out to collapse the governement. Livni's pursuit of 2 state concessions in face f arab intransigence is what led many jews not to run from gas chambers. She is pathetic like her former boss olmet, the biggest coward and groveller in israeli history .
47. #19. You illustrate the pathetic self hating leftist Jew.
Chaim ,   Israel   (03.14.13)
Mark, you certainly manage to illustrate the thinking of a pathetic self hating leftist Jews. Israel "taking land from the weak"...On alternate universe do you dwell? Israel has less than a six hundredth as much land as the Arabs. Israel has only a small portion of the Jewish Mandate.
48. #19 - clearly, you've never met a Jewish person
William ,   Israel   (03.14.13)
"The biggest problem with so many modern Jewish people in and outside of Israel is that they think they are perfect. " You're an idiot. Jews are known to be their biggest critics and often fall down the hole of extreme self-criticism and beratement to the point of guilt. How do you explain why so many are liberal-minded and follow the premise that perpetrators of crimes are the victims somehow?
49. #20 - Zionists never considered Uganda
William ,   Israel   (03.14.13)
The British did and it was rejected. As Zionists argued before the global body, why would you see your mother on the weekend when there are so many other elderly women in your neighborhood? Israel is the Jewish homeland, the source of Judaism, the host of Judaism's holiest site on Earth, and now the location of the very successful Jewish nation-State. We have legal, moral, and historical right to this land and we shall go no where, though the time for Arabs to make a decision on co-existence is quickly running out, and the result will be yet another migration of "Palestinians" - the initial illegal economic migrants with a false narrative.

Sagi   (03.14.13)
Your opinion is more than 100% correct. Most people on this forum probably think you are being facetious. I do not. It is my opinion precisely.
51. #30 Dan try consulting a history book
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (03.14.13)
Fawzi al-Qawuqji - commander of the Iraq Arab Liberation Army started the fighting in APRIL 1948. Abd al-Qadir al-Husayni - commander of the Syrian Army of the Holy War started fighting in JANUARY 1948. Your knowledge of history needs a lot of help
52. Dan Calic is 100% correct
Clear Thinker ,   Haifa, Israel   (03.14.13)
53. Re #51 Zee
Dan Calic   (03.14.13)
The reference you are attempting to correct is regarding the "state" of Israel. That's why I referenced "Arab nations...." We both know fighting had preceeded statehood. Maybe you should write your own articles, as you appear to be quite knowledgeable.
54. Paying the Palestinians
Lord Sandwich   (03.15.13)
@41 I hate to be pedantic, but the first quote is usually credited to Edward Bulwer-Lytton and the second to Karl Marx. Trotsky may have used them at some point, but he didn't coin them. @45 Pay Palestinians to leave? Who determines how much each person is paid? Which country are they going to go to? How much is that going to cost?Who would pay for it? Are Israeli taxpayers going to be happy to pay large sums of money to Pals when it is badly needed for public services and defense? What if 400,000 or so agree to emigrate and the rest decide to stay where they are? In that case it'll be very expensive (and likely controversial) without actually solving the demographic problem.
55. global issue
Zsolt ,   WanganuiNZ   (03.15.13)
I agree that those urging Israel to sign a peace agreement, a "two state solution" simply ignore reality. And it is not simply because the Palestinians do not want to recognize Israel, but the issue is not even with the Palestinians. For true peace to prevail Israel would need to settle the "right to exist" issue with all the Arabic, Muslim countries and their international supporters. For that the Arabic states, many of them mortal enemies of each other would also need to agree with each other and not simply use the issue as ploy. There is no isolated, "two-state solution" in a global world, where there are so many, so complicated interconnections, most of them contradicting each other. Until the world becomes capable of such "supra-national" cooperation, where the sustenance of the common boat becomes more important than selfish, nationalistic or personal benefit Israel can do one thing: to become united, creating a mutually responsible and supportive nation to justify the "right to exist" in their own country.
56. and now what?
diana ,   israel   (03.15.13)
so what is your suggestion for a solution? do you hava a better idea than 2 states? This article leads nowhere.as it is the same discourse we have been hearing for nearly 70 years... It has nothing to do with left or right, who is going to be the first to throw the other into the sea???
57. To No.36
Bertram ,   London, UK   (03.15.13)
Once again, the facts are not quite you have presented them. The 'Uganda' (actually British East Africa) plan was passed initially by the 1903 Zionist Congress in Basel by 295 to 177 votes but declined in 1905. However, others - the Jewish Territorialist Organisation - continued to push for a Jewish state anywhere. So,' rejected out of hand' is stretching it somewhat. Of course the primordialist, irredentist mindset cannot conceive that there were - and are - large sections of the Jewish population (currently around 50 per cent) which did not - and do not - necessarily see living in Eretz Yisrael as their means of salvation.
58. Re #56 Diana
Dan Calic   (03.15.13)
The Arab countries created this festering mess intentionally by refusing to accept the original 600,000 - 700,000 displaced from the wars of '48 and '67. They [including Abbas] continue to demand the right of return which will eliminate the Jewish majority in Israel. Israel has no interest in destroying any existing Arab country, yet PLO, Hamas, Fatah, Islamic Jihad, Mahmoud Abbas, and the Muslim nations all wish Israel destroyed, so your question really needs to be answered by them. They are the ones who refuse to allow Israel to exist. I have no answer. Do you?
59. #8 - "defensible border?" Not possible
spyguy ,   seattle, usa   (03.15.13)
It is 100% IMPOSSIBLE for Israel to have "defensible borders" no matter how much land they steal, because warfare these days is not dependent on men with muskets. Per the IDF, every inhabited square meter of Israel is currently targeted by over 50000 missiles which will turn the whole country into one big rubble heap. After all the missiles go off, the invaders have all the weapons that the Iraqis and Afghans used to defeat the USA. Get REAL. The ONLY way for Israel to be safe is to NEGOTIATE a peace agreement with ALL their neighbors, meaning Israel will have to give up lots of land, water, cash for compensation and apologies for all that it has done in the past.
60. #59. Peddle your trash on a Neo-Nazi website.
Chaim ,   Israel   (03.15.13)
You post the sort of trash which would be very popular on a Neo-Nazi website. However, it insults the intelligence of normal people. Go peddle it on Storm Front.
