31. She has not helped thus far and is too anti
Citizen ,   Israel   (03.17.13)
what makes Israel strong. She committed perjury, refused the draft and paying taxes, and glorifies and encourages shirking responsibility and a total lack of gratitude toward those who keep her safe. As for gentiles, Leo is the least of her crimes, as she agreed to pose with Rafael Nadal, an outspoken anti-Israel pro-terror piece of ____. She is not starving, did not need the cash, could have declined. And no, Nadal and his fellow anti-Semitic Spaniards did not become pro-Israel afterwards, nor did Turkey, where she did her thing and no-one wanted to hear where she was born. For once, I agree with the Haredim.
32. To all who are against Bar Rafaeli representing Israel
Barbara ,   Haifa Israel   (03.17.13)
in PR effort - let me clue you in. Viewers all over the world are going to look and hear Bar Rafaeli in a very positive light. Now, compare that to someone like yourselves - ultra-religious (beards, fanatic ideas, black weird attire, etc.) and how would the world look at Israel - probably say we look like Muslims.
33. Negative image
Jewish Patriot ,   Galut   (03.17.13)
Negative image to the country, not different from racism... and the haredim do not represent the other Israelis, as long as they are just parasites and don't contribute to the country, they should shut up.
34. Haredim
Michael Cohen ,   London England   (03.17.13)
Looks to me like the Haredim are a anti-zionists wet dream. The BDS campaigners must think christmas has come early.
35. Whatever you do
Jon ,   UK   (03.17.13)
the World will see it is just an amateurish publicity stunt to try to improve Israel's image .... an impossible task. In the same way, the actions of organised groups that try to present a positive image by flooding social network sites are equally obvious and, in fact, counter productive. Accept it, you are in a loose-loose situation.
36. I agree
Shimon ,   Cincinnati, USA   (03.17.13)
Rafaeli and her mother are all about the 3 M's - "Me, Money and More". That she did not serve in the army nor do national service (what reason was given for that? Or, who was paid off?) is enough to disqualify her. About her personal relationships? They are her business, and not anyone else's. Jealousy is not a seemly trait.
37. and Tishby married Jewish?
arik ,   NY NY   (03.17.13)
well not quite, Noa was married to Andrew Günsberg.. not either Jewish sooo... yeah.
38. What would they have said about Queen Esther...
Nick Sporek ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (03.17.13)
...if they had lived back in the day? lol
39. I'm ashamed
Eli ,   Israel   (03.17.13)
If this is the person to represent Israel then I am ashamed to be Israeli. So sad we are becoming Iike the degenerates of the liberal western world. She is Israel's Kardashian nothing to be proud of she does not represent the Jewish people.
40. SILLY as OFFICIAL STATE PRESENTER..
Colorado ,   USA   (03.17.13)
Really? I mean, REALLY? They probably did focus groups and found she was the most appealing to Americans because she looks like a Californian. Bar is lovely as far as looks go, but she IS getting older. In the fast-paced world of fashion and modeling, she is nearing 30. It is starting to show and the "young" and "vibrant" Rafaeli is giving way to the more mature young woman. She still has some years in the industry, however. BUT--what in the world she has to do with any governmental representation does not speak well of Israel. It's like "See, WE have pretty girls too. See. WE are modern too. See Bar? Please don't hurt us because we have supermodels..." Modeling and politics are different entities. Many many photos are taken to get the one "magic" photo. In politics, there aren't any retakes. As for impressing people in America, for example. Well, people here are completely familiar with models--what they are, and what they aren't--so this choice will be looked on as more than a bit silly. No offense to Ms. Rafaeli. I agree that the Haredim probably don't care--so what's up ynet?
41. They have a valid point
Iris ,   New York   (03.17.13)
If they want to show the empty side of Israeli society they should pick bar refaeli, but if they want to represent substance, she is the wrong pick. Israel is much more than bar refaeli's naked body. Anyhow she is ruined in my eyes and many others' for taking part in the disgraceful commercial at the Super Bowl where she was kissing with such a passion this ugly retarded guy...
42. Biased, dishonest reporting
Yoni Ross ,   Modiin, Israel   (03.17.13)
The headline says that Orthodox students (plural) opposed to Refaeli because of her relationship with a gentile, while the article states that this was only the feeling of one law student. The other people quoted had much more palatable reasons to exclude her (no army service, for example). Ynet apparently could not pass up an opportunity to give the impression that all hareidim are stuck in the dark ages.
43. #22. I second that choice!
A ,   Belgium   (03.17.13)
From Ethiopia to heading Israels' PR campaign. Let Israel show the world that every Jew has a chance in Israel.
44. Not that we should compare Israel to other countries
Keren ,   IL-BR   (03.17.13)
Each country is peculiar, but I will give an worthwhile example about Brasil. Gisele Bunchen is a brasilian international model and nobody has seen her behaving grotesquely. She is used by governmnet to send a good image in important aspects. In the other hand,I ask, what the whole word thinks about Brasil when they see those naked and vulgar women in Carnaval, for example? I know that´s not a good image and tend to be generalized and peoples have a mocking image about Brasil:carnaval and football and that´s it!
45. Rafaeli should not represent Israel....
Andy ,   Washington, DC   (03.17.13)
not because haredim say so, but because she is vacuous and shallow.
46. FYI
(03.17.13)
Noa Tishby's ex-husband Andrew Gunsberg is Catholic. He had one Jewish grandfather and was not raised Jewish at all. He and all his siblings were baptized.
47. No. 41 Iris
NYC Girl   (03.17.13)
It's rather uncharitable of you to refer to the young man in the commercial with Bar Rafaeli as "this ugly, retarded guy." It's one thing to dislike the commercial, but you're doing the same thing we women object to when somebody focuses on our looks and denigrates us if we don't meet their "standards."
48. 10.
BUTSeriousy ,   Sydney   (03.17.13)
List what he did to confront Rome that perpetrated a holocaust in the 1st century and tried to deny the God of all Gods.
49. of all the LEGITIMATE reasons, this is the one??
oferdesade ,   israel   (03.17.13)
how about she represents israel like i represent the harlem globetrotters? how about she hardly lives here? how about she's all about glitz and cash? how about she's stupid? why must the most insignificant of all reasons be the one to immediately make me say davka!!
50. Whhhaa, Bar isn't a gentile?
Alex   (03.17.13)
As for a more serious note, let some of our beautiful girls with Mediterranean looks represent us. Dark Ashenazim, Sephardim and Mizrahim ftw!
51. Wrong #47
Keren ,   IL-BR   (03.17.13)
That guy was produced ,with makeup and all ,to look exactly as a retarded guy and the intention of the whole thing was exactly that:that Bar was kissing a kind of retard with passion. If she had a minimum of dignity, she would refuse that role, but as said before, she does anything in charge of money and even seem to like to be provocatively nasty.
52. # 6 - fantastic talkback!
ariel ,   us   (03.18.13)
53. I agree with #50
(03.18.13)
Bar does not look Jewish at all. She looks more Swedish.
54. #10
Jake ,   Haifa   (03.18.13)
Sorry Scott - you do not represent our country any more than this model. We are Jews. The Haredi may need to learn to work but they do not need lessons in mercy. As for the lesson of the stone, it sounds nice but is idiotic. No society can function if punishments can only be delivered by those who are sin free. That is not the way it works. You are punished for breaking the law, not because you "sin". Punishment is delivered by society, not by heaven.
55. once more
michel ,   Ashkelon   (03.18.13)
wehave the proof of the lack of intellligence and professionalism in the people doing the choices for us. To propose a person who is not waving the jewish values and not sharing the burden of the country is completely stupid.
56. She is a yoredet draft dodger who thinks she is superior
Mordechai   (03.18.13)
Exactly why would anyone care what a Jew who abandoned Israel, lied to get out of her army service and openly states that celebrities like herself are superior to the people that work hard every day and built Israel when she defends her draft dodging
57. 11 Al You seem confused...
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (03.18.13)
Bar is not Haredi . I hope for you that your exemplary brave religious sons did not read this despicable comment. You make them needlessly suffer. Shame on you! ! ! ! !
58. # 19 Keren
Sagi   (03.18.13)
I hope that Rafaeli sues you for libel. I hope you have the guts to come out in the open and print here your name and address and telephone number.
59. ORA ...my sons are truly frum ..they are not HARADIM
Al   (03.18.13)
My sons wear beards and payos and are truly frum yiddin, much like my late grandparents who were true B'nai Torah. Todays HARADIM are despicable, selfish cowardly and utterly horrible. There is a difference. Please ..when a group of people refuse to even protect themselves against an enemy, and at the same time refuse to work to even feed themselves, they are imzitekah fressers. God helps those who help themselves. If you want to lay about, feed off of others and insert you morality upon others, people will object and crucify you all at the same time. THE HARADIM have brough upon themselves the ire of the Jewish people. They have no one to blame but themselves.
