I don't see what's so complicated about this debate. Jews came to Palestine and colonised it. They forced the existing population to flee and did not let them return. I work with UK based organisations promoting Israel and countering the local BDS movements . The one thing I have come to understand is that there is absolutely no point in trying to engage with individuals such as Waters and the various NGOs they belong to . Simply put , they are not open to persuasion , to balance or the idea that there are two sides to the dispute . They are not receptive because their primary cause is not the Palestinians but to see the dismantlement of Israel . They simply cannot bear to see the existence of an independent Jewish state . Their rejection takes a number of forms . Some will be forthright and demand a single state , others will be a little less overt and say yes 2SS is good but then add the caveat of RoR for millions of Palestinians to pre 67 Israel thus negating the need for a separate Palestinian state . All of these people Waters included would consider themselves to be humanitarians but their vision , in the certainty that Israelis would reject such an absurdity, would of course result in a open civil war the likes of which would make Syria seem like a playground scrap . For the waters of this world that is not important . It's the end result that counts no matter how many dead Israelis and Palestinians it takes . Waters takes part in a kangaroo court of no significance called the Russell tribunal . It is a mock trial where the participants act as prosecution , judge and jury .
