I think you have no idea what you're talking about. As a matter of fact -- I'm quite sure.
62. Dialogue
John ,   Israel   (05.11.13)
I've read several articles from zionists regarding this affair and they all use the same empty rhetoric about dialogue to attack Hawkins. Needless to say none of these people have any particular opposition to sanctions against the Iranian people. More importantly, successful dialogue between the Palestinians and the Israelis depends - as it does in all negotiations - on an approximately equal balance of power between the two parties. Right now the Israelis hold all the cards it a successful boycot will even out the playing field and allow for a just outcome to negotiations. Bit who wants that right?
63. #5 Awad: here's some gray for you
an Israeli   (05.11.13)
Really... you're talking about the author not seeing the gray? What about you? 1. You're talking about "occupiers". What about the Arab side? Jordan had no problem occupying the old city from 1948-1967, not allowing a single Jew access to the holy sites for Jews. The Palestinians had no problem with that. Israel grants free access to Muslims and Christians, I can only imagine what would have happened if the Palestinians had control of the old city. Jews were not allowed to set foot, or would have been attacked. 2. The Palestinians and all Arab countries attacked the Jews before 1967 (the beginning of the "occupation"). Or maybe you think that Haifa Jaffa and Acre are also occupied? It's not about the occupation, it's about the refusal of the Arabs to accept a Jewish state on any territory of the holy land. 3. You talk about apartheid. I assume with regard to Arab Israelis. Well for your information they have more rights, freedom and a higher standard of living than Arabs in all Arab countries. I hope that's enough gray for you.
64. to #55: the occupation is NOT the issue
an Israeli   (05.11.13)
The Arabs attacked Israel before 1967 when there was no "occupation". They object to the very existence of a Jewish state in any borders. Giving the Palestinians the west bank will put Israel in a situation where its security is compromised. Given that the Arabs were always the aggressors in the past Israel should give (more) territories to the Arabs only within an agreement that will address its security concerns and prevent the Arabs from doing what they did in the past - i.e. attack Israel from these territories. But the Arabs refuse to take any responsibility or acknowledge their aggression and demand that Israel will just hand then back these territories without them recognizing Israel's obvious security concerns. It's like after WW2 the Germans would ask the allies to get out of Germany and not having to pay any price for their aggression or agree to except the terms of the allies that were put to make sure that Germany doesn't attack again.

Well maybe you should take more History classes
66. Well said, #57
Cameron ,   USA   (05.11.13)
Yes, Hawking did err by straying out of the arena of physics, and diving into the world of ME dynamics based upon a shallow grasp of the peoples & history of the region, as well as indulging in rather flip emotionalism. Always disturbing how many those of such a pronounced intellectual stamp are so often willing to embrace and back dubious fashionable trends and bluntly dark agendas.
67. Cry in your milk
Spengler ,   US   (05.12.13)
Anyone who has done any kind of math knows Einstein is not the guy, Maxwell is twice the man. And if you read and understood Kant you do not need relativity. You people are like children, cant take any criticism.
68. Anton #18
David Israel ,   New York, USA   (05.12.13)
Don't imagine that the entire world is like Turkey under AKP and when people speak up their minds it is not heard. Only in Turkey and similar dictatorships there are Silivri type jails where all dissident voices are silenced. Had Mr. Hawking came to Israel and spoke it would have been all over the world media. Dear Anton; We Jews have endured and keep on enduring many hardships just for being a small but different group in this world. Similar to the Roman Gypsies or the Bahais. In Turkey you hit us with Varlik Vergisi and Kirklareli pogroms etc, in Germany they killed 6 million of us, in 1947 Israel was attacked the day it was founded, in 1967 the 6 day war followed by the Yom Kippur attacks and now BDS. If you look at the history we have come up stronger from all of these by learning from our past. Keep on attacking us and I can assure you we will only get stronger and fight better. After all for us it is all for survival just like Great Ataturk's war of independence.
69. To # 60 The problem is
Stan ,   Israel   (05.12.13)
That Intel is an American company, and just as happened with SA, one day all American companies may have to withdraw their activity from our country and then all the the chips will be produced elsewhere what I find puzzling is the fact that, after so many of you have for so many years givin logical reasons supporting Israel's stand on Judea and Sameria, Not one country in the world, not even USA and Canada are willing to support Israel's annexation of those territories.
70. #32, Well explained to the FOOLISH attorn writing abt Math.
Michael ,   California, USA   (05.12.13)
Mr. Hawking never claimed to be an attorney, let's give him credit for that. He is entitled to hold his opinions and express them freely. The fact that he is a brilliant Physicist doesn't make his views on politics any more relevant. I am sure Mr. Hawking is well aware of this, just as surely as she is not.
71. #51, Sarah you have compounded your ignorance.
Sidney ,   USA   (05.12.13)
Without the imaginary numbers there would be no Quantum Mechanics. If you stick to real numbers, there is no solution to the Schroedinger equation. The momentum operator has an i in it, the state that defines an atomic system is the sum of a real and imaginary part.

No, I don't want to argue either, but it seems that you forgot that we aren't talking about Canada. Borders don't buy security entirely, but especially in the Middle East, they are important. The neighbors you want to "make peace with" & give land to have without ceasing vowed for our destruction and to have "Palestine" from the River to the Sea. This means...do I have to explain? Look at the map. What are you thinking? You can't envision Iranian missiles stationed outside Ariel, looking down on Ben Gurion, Tel Aviv and a coastal strip of Israel only 20 km wide? You think the PA won't coordinate with Hamas, and all the other terrorist organizations? You think these are just nice guys? I just don't understand how you can live here and be so naive....shavua tov & chag sameach.

solomon ,   bklyn   (05.12.13)
I read Feynman's lectures in college physics class. I have also read that Hawking collaborates with other scientists (as most do) and gives them full credit. He even gives credit to those who influenced his ideas. While Einstein's revelations were earth-shattering, Hawking is attempting to solve a greater number of problems. The more problems, the more blunders...which he has owned up to.

Is that the best you can do? Let me guess -- your first name wouldn't happen to be Oswald, would it? Yours is a remarkably stupid comment, in any event. Greatest mathematician? How far back do you want to go? Fermat? Pascal? Descartes? Fibonacci? How about Pythagoras?
75. E.T.'s
Gady ,   Mexico City   (05.12.13)
Ha!. This guy was advising the world to start cominicating with other life forms and aliens. Remember that? Maybe these aliens have told him wich side to take. He went for the dark side. so be it. who cares anyway...
76. #29 EINSTEIN WORSHIP
Frank-el ,   Seattle USA   (05.12.13)
Oh Energizer Bunny of abject hatred, your idolization of Professor Albert (ostensibly since he was Jewish by birth and Hawkins in not) is both amusing and sad. This pathological extension of your own gestalt whereby your kindred are superior and all others are untermensch is well played out on the talk back stage for all to see. Go read up on E=mc2's personal life and you'll see an amoral train wreck. Should you be so lucky in your blind worship to have be on the receiving end of his famous demands list to his first wife...or maybe you could have been born as his first child (illegitimate) who was abandoned by the Great One. I recommend a heart transplant so that you can actually get one. But please keep wtiting...you entertain many of us.

78. Really, I do not understand..
viktor kanevsky ,   USA   (05.12.13)
5000 the brightest people of the planet going to attend conference, why we are discussing the one who decided for what ever reason not to attend? It is his loss not ours. And second thought. I like these Palestinian academics: Jonathan Rosenhead, Noam Chomsky... Have Hawking or anybody else ever seen any real Palestinian academic?
79. Sarah #1, You sure can take the square root of a negative ..
Stewart ,   USA   (05.12.13)
number. I've got a masters in telecom engineering under electrical engineering. We do it all the time. The whole field of advanced electronics would not exist if it wasn't for the imaginary number i., The square root of -1 is i. Einstine knew that and used it. It you don't believe it ask a mathematician or even a high school math teacher. It is so important, they teach it during trig I believe. You must be thinking of some think else. In real numbers, the square root of a negative number does not exist, but their is a whole infinite set of imaginary numbers that make it possible. Without them there would be no modern physics or science.

Well what do you expect, most of the time he has a drink in his hand that makes him blab too much! Don't allow anyone to ''get to you Sarah, for you are our heroine.'' Enjoy your Sunday. Peace & harmony.
81. 5.
Birdi ,   Israel   (05.12.13)
Pray tell what are you doing in Brussels? Why are you not in Gaza helping Hamas exterminate us Jews? Awad, read carefully, Jerusalem is the eternal capital of Israel. You have Mecca & Medina, you will not get your hands on Jerusalem. Not now, not ever. ''War?" be very careful for what you ask. We have whipped your tails too many times in the past & we are not afraid of war with your kind. Btw, the ''world'' will not boycott Israel. Comparing this writer to ''Gobbles'' is sick!
82. 20.
Birdi ,   Israel   (05.12.13)
You are asking for civil war. You have'nt been in Israel long enough to know that Judea & Samaria is a (very) sore point with the majority of Israelis, who do not live in the area of Tel-Aviv. The majority of Israelis consider Judea & Samaria part of Israel. Territory won by war. We Israelis, with the skin of elephants! do not care what the rest of the world thinks about us. Wise up will you.
83. #44 stan
solomon ,   bklyn   (05.12.13)
With all due and sincere respect to you; If Israel had not held the Golan Heights in 1973...? Borders do count, especially since you need 'boots on the ground' to win a war.
84. #17, you and your LACK of standards!
Ilan ,   Ramat Gan, Isael   (05.12.13)
the third Reich, had us in extermination camps! we do not have the Palestinians in camps! although they would VERY much have you believe that! you cannot compare the two, you cannot compare it with Africa! yes we occupy the west Bank, and why should we leave? really? why? look what happened in Gaza, south Lebanon? we left and look what happened, it got worse! REALLY worse! what possible incentive do we have to leave west bank? there are no rockets coming from there, and there never will be, until we leave! Palestinians attack us our civilians! find me one time where a military base was attacked? one time? this isn't a movie with some underdog story! this is pure manipulation, see a picture of a dead child, abandon logic! don't ask how or why. just take their word for it that we purposely did it! don't bother with pesky facts, like missiles where launched at Israel from that child's back yard! who cares right? Israel shouldn't do anything! and just LET those rockets hit our citizens, right? talk about double standard for real!! Israel has never EVER said it wants to exterminate, or destroy, or drive anyone to the sea! everyone around us has done exactly the opposite!
85. #67 ,REALLY?
Ilan ,   Ramat Gan, Israel   (05.12.13)
Go criticize Mohamed! see what that gets you? we can't take criticism? criticize us all you want, we won't threaten to kill, or make you fear for your life! we actually respect freedom of speech here! I think the fact that you can post what ever you want on Ynet and not get it deleted is proof in its self! someone as educated as you claim to be, using the term " you people!" hmm.
86. hawins boycott
elyas benelyahoo ,   great neck   (05.12.13)
hate can kill even very smart people how can he do such stupid act and leave himself out from world of smart people (it is proven by time) thank you ---ely
87. very well..
daniela   (05.12.13)
expressed. But I do not think it will make Hawking change his ideas. Because they do not come from logic, or openness, just from a dark hole in his mind
88. Boycotts-Just like Vilna 1938
Susan ,   Kfar Saba   (05.12.13)
This Shabbat I was reading From That Place and Time by Lucy S. Dawidowicz. She went from the US to Vilna in 1938, which in those days was part of Poland, to study at YIVO. She describes that anti-semetic thugs would call for boycotts of Jewish owned shops(and this was before the Nazis came to town). They would hang out in gangs in front of the stores and prevent customers from going in. Some things never change. Its not PC to boycott individual Jews so they do it to our only country. As they say "anti-Zionism is the new anti-semetism." One would think that Hawking would be smarter than that. As for Chomsky, I think he does it for attention. As Thomas Sowell, the world famous American economist says, he wouldnt be famous if he stuck to his field which is linguistics. As smart as Chomsky is in lingusitics, thats how dumb he is in politics.
89. enough: Hawking is a victim
israel israeli ,   tel aviv   (05.12.13)
Israel should look at herself before attacking Hawking. Although offensive and disgusting, the academic boycott was not Hawking's invention. Academics like Neve Gordon, employed and paid by the Israeli taxpayer are avid promoters of the boycott. No less important, we should look who funds Hawking's research. Remember how the LSE was owned by Gadaffi? Other UK universities are no different. If a Saudi sheik informed him that if he visited Israel he would be out on the street, what could a vulnerable person like Hawking do?
