31. This is a dumb move!
Ilan ,   Ramat Gan, Israel   (07.26.13)
if they don't hate us enough already, they will even more now since the E.U. workers lives will be a living hell from all the extra bureaucracy coming their way! We Israeli's love to do things on Prin-cip (principle). Not saying the EU doesn't deserve it. just dont think its a good idea!
32. Oppressor
Ab5678 ,   USA   (07.26.13)
History has taught us already that oppressors never leave voluntarily but must be forced to leave. I hope EU activates total sanction quick.
33. Really Yaalon?
Non Jewish immigrant ,   European in Haifa   (07.26.13)
You really think you're hurting anyone like that? Europe is finally waking up and carries the voice of its citizens like me who have been against illegal settlements in the west bank for decades now. The whole world has recognized Palestine as an entity last year. How long can you lie to yourselves and keep your heads in the sand? You already have not a lot of friends here on this planet so you better keep it idle if you don't want to find yourselves banned completely from Europe. Continue like that and soon Israelis will have to apply for visas in order to visit Europe. No wonder most of the Israelis I know are looking a way out by applying for European passports. Wake up! Bravo to Europe and keep the good work!
34. The EU is pushing itself out of ANY role in the region, by
David Dunn   (07.26.13)
its actions, as well as by lack of actions. It has become a pathetic entity and Ya'alon did the right thing.
35. Great ! That has made my day.(end)
DT ,   TA Israel   (07.26.13)
36. To: Chaim at No. 17
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (07.26.13)
Exactly! I've long been an advocate of Israel's yanking all its licensing agreements concerning Israeli intellectual property from the European Union. The Europeans are probably too dumb to recognize all the ramifications. Just wait until they discover that there isn't a single computer, laptop, notebook, iPad, Droid or mobile phone anywhere in the world that does not heavily depend upon Israeli patents. Wait until they learn that their ability to use chemotherapy protocols will be reduced by seventy percent. When Europeans start dying of very treatable forms of cancer and when they are forced to start using two tin cans and a long piece of string, they may realize their folly, but by then it will be too late. Oh! Did I mention no more CAT scans and MRIs? Yeah, those, too. Israel can tie the EU up in litigation for the next one hundred years. The EU cannot afford that, for one thing. For another, the Courts will ban the use of any Israeli intellectual property for the pendency of the litigation. The EU will come crawling to Israel. It will be most gratifying to kick the EU in the teeth before turning our back on them -- for good. Time to teach them a much-deserved lesson.
37. EU action on the administered areas
Ron Sandler ,   OAK PARK   (07.26.13)
Lest we forget... Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland are occupied territories ... perhaps Israel should put similar restrictions on products from those places ...
38. #31 Principle matters
Cynthia ,   USA   (07.26.13)
The EU wanted to manipulate and cause damage to Israel without considering the consequences. They also want their hands in the decision making process but forget this is a two way street. Now they can issue EU passports to the Palestinians to seek work in Europe following settlement layoffs.
39. No visa to israelis
Gilda Cohen ,   Rome   (07.26.13)
Europe should counter attack Israel with the same measures: 1. Require visa entry to all Israelis 2. Cut all cooperation of British, French, Germany institutions with Israel (let them look for Indonesian, Pakistani or India knowledge) 3. Stop buying product from ANY part of israel and boycott companies around the world that deal with Israel 4. UK and French should starting using veto power in the Security Council against israel 5. Stop selling high sensitive material do israel
40. #36 We depend on Europe.
Eyal Tal ,   Arad   (07.26.13)
Sorry to disappoint you, Mme, but the contribution of Israel to the computer field and medicine is not that big. As an engineer, I can tell you was not for scientific cooperation, publications in EU specialized magazines, exchange of Israelis students to EU universities we could not reach the level we are now. Believing that in a world like today we are self-sufficient and can create intrinsic knowledge out the blues is just wishful thinking. Look inside any i-Phone or i-Pad or any medical machine and you will see that they will work normally if Israel decides to remove the components originally developed by Israel, if any. It is typical hutzpah or plain ignorance to think otherwise. Acting like child, in a immature way will not lead us anywhere. The true is we depend on Europe more than depend on us. Have you just looked ever into any international scientific magazine or ranking of universities? To fight against Europe is a wrong move. They and the Americans are our only friends. And, between us, they are doing a write move. Shabbat Shalom.
41. Yes-Yes-and Yes !.
Arn. ,   Sweden.   (07.26.13)
42. LOL
Walter ,   Germany   (07.26.13)
I really thought Sarah Silverman is the greatest Jewish comedian. But now I realize even the Israeli Defence minister is a joker.
43. To: No. 40
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (07.26.13)
You are wrong. But I don't think you're an engineer, either. I think an engineer would be educated enough to know the difference between "right" and "write." And that's the truth! Take the Israeli owned and controlled technology out of any of the devices that people find so indispensable, and you are left with a non-working empty shell. Nothing will work. Take away the licenses to utilize Israeli chemotherapy protocols, and you will deprive Europe of seventy percent of the chemotherapy protocols in use throughout the world today. It is clear that you have nary a clue about intellectual property law, nor do you understand Israel's dominance in information technology and medicine. The Europeans sat back and watched in deafening silence while six million Jews filed passively to their deaths. Nothing has changed. Why do you defend them?
44. To: Ron at No. 37
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (07.26.13)
Distilled spirits, wool, coal and Jameson's? No need for any of the foregoing in Israel, anyway.
45. EU shoud save their money for the next bailout
Scott ,   Ramat Gan, Israel   (07.26.13)
Who will UK & Germany have to bailout next? Spain, Italy? Israel is doing them a favor. They should stop wasting their money on arab terrorists aka the PA.
46. I agree!
Sam Sweiry ,   Eastbourne UK   (07.26.13)
make life more difficult for the EU Representatives Movements via Israel - I totaly agree with the move - well done Check Mate
47. To the troll # 19
(07.26.13)
Michael from New York - more like Mohammad from the U.K. Why don't you go and do some good in the world today instead of spreading your anti-semitic venom on issues that don't concern you.
48. To # 40
Mike ,   NZ   (07.26.13)
So Mr Tal ... you call the E.U. one of our "friends. !!! What the hell have you been smokinjg ?? The next thing I suppose is trying to convince us all the the wolf was one of little red riding hoods best friends !! With friends like that who the hell needs enemies . . I say give the E.U enough rope and they will hang themselves with it !!!!!
49. No 40 Eyal
Non Jewish Immigrant ,   Haifa   (07.26.13)
It's refreshing to see Israelis with a bit of common sense and clarity on the topic. I share your point of view - and it has nothing to do with antisemitism or hate of the Jewish people. Some people out there should drop the attitude and the over dimensioned ego!
50. #42, Walter...YOU are a laughingstock !
Chris Rettenmoser ,   Bayerisch Gmain Germ   (07.26.13)
Please don't come out from your German kindergarten...
51. To Eyal you are 100% right
Kobi Martin ,   Tel Aviv   (07.26.13)
You are 100% right. Don't waste your time and energy with Sarah B. She became a folkloric personage here in these talkbacks and no one take her seriously. By advocating the isolation of Israel those "pretended" Jews are preaching the ruin of the Jewish State. They are destroying Israel from within. That's the reason their IP should be tracked and the links with our enemies investigated. This lady is not Israeli neither Jewish. You are right, Eyal. Israel just check the scientific rankings in the world and it is easy to see that we are part of a huge scientific community and we can not be separate from it. Clearly this Sarah B does't have any clue about copyright or intelectual property. If indeed as she states israel dominates every thing right on I-Pads or I-phones, shouldn't all the money be returned to the country? As you said.. just chutzpah, wishful thinking and fifth columnism.
52. Israel-EU trade
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (07.26.13)
The EU imports from Israel represent 0.7 % of their total . The exports to Israel 1 % . Of the Israeli imports the EU is the FIRST with 34.5 % of our imports . 26.1 % of our exports goes to the EU , ranked second after the USA . So , if for the EU we are NOT an important trade partner , for Israel the EU is very IMPORTANT . And don't come telling me that other countries can replace the EU , it only will prove your ignorance .
53. Kobi 51 . I don't agree !
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (07.26.13)
This person has some "qualities" too . # 1 in hatefull reactions , shows her IGNORANCE in many fields , is # 1 in insulting people who disagree with her , # 1 in telling lies about her . "a succesful lawyer fore more than 50 years" she wrote some time ago , and later she told us she was in her forties .... But , her English is very good i think , so she attacks people on a wreiting error .
54. Lost sight of the crux of the matter!
A Jerusalemite ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (07.26.13)
To my chagrin, seems that all of the commenters here have lost sight of the main issue. It is not money it is: "The European Union has decreed that contracts between EU member states and Israel must include a clause stating that east Jerusalem and the West Bank are not part of the State of Israel" They want us to put in writing that Jerusalem is not part of Israel! That people, is the crux of the matter and Ya'alon is absolutely correct in his reaction.
55. The EU ought to know: Israel is not part of Europe and,
Jehudah Ben-Israel ,   Qatzrin, Israel   (07.26.13)
therefore, the EU must take off its blood-stained hands with Jewish blood off the ancestral homeland of the Jewish people. We, Jews, have paid enough as a result of European arrogance. But we ought to pay no more. Never Again!!
56. #52 - the trade balance is changing
looking east   (07.26.13)
Israel will sign FTA with India this year, and will sign few other FTAs with Asian countries on the next decade (including FTA with China). Europe will stay an important economic entity, but it will no longer be an economic superpower. China will replace it.
57. Looking East 56 . Can you predict
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (07.26.13)
what those FTA's will give as results ? My numbers come from the EU data , 2012 . We import already much from China , as do many other countries , but the EU is much nearer to Israel , in every field , not only geographically .
58. Sarah B
Michael ,   Haifa   (07.26.13)
I sometimes relish the suspicion that Sarah B is really our "well-respected" First Lady, Sarah Netanyahu
59. an immature and childish move
Bruno   (07.26.13)
60. NO to fake EU
Brod ,   USA   (07.26.13)
EU is a concept. It is NOT a country. It is an extension of Nazism that continues to persecute and attack Israel. Israel can them to go to Hell.
