"Great going lad, and next time don't forget the old " left, right and the upper cut"
32. # 1 Response
Sagi   (08.08.13)
For you I am prepared to be an "idiot". 1958, Montgomery and Birmingham Alabama, President Eisenhower, by Executive Order, sent in the 101st Airborne and units of the National Guard to conduct and accompany Afro American pupils into the classrooms and citizens onto buses. That is what I want to see here, a paratrooper with authority on every bus in Jerusalem and Bnei Brak and Bet shemesh until this disgusting affair is brought to an end. If this does not happen and the law is not enforced then vigilantes will pop up now and again, it is entirely understandable. Throughout history, when regimes do not enforce the laws that protect citizens and their rights, people take the law into their own hands and anarchy and revolutions occur. These ultra anti social misfits must be put in their place, immediately.
33. Taliban
K ,   Chicago, USA   (08.08.13)
The Haredi are turning into the Taliban and forcing everyone else to follow their rules or else. Yet they will not serve in the military, thinking that others should bleed and die for the land. They will not work, thinking that others should pay for their upkeep. And they get everything they want out of the government. Now knowing that Israel is heading down this path of extremism, why should I make Aliyah? My skills and money is better spent here outside of Israel.
34. To be a better Rosa Parks analogy ...
Jon S. ,   Fairfax, VA USA   (08.08.13)
... the man who did the hitting would have stayed where he was afterwards instead of running away. This being said, if we Jews have learned anything over the millenia, it's not to turn the other cheek to evil but to oppose it. How the haredi treat women is an evil that must be opposed. This being said, I'm just back from 2 weeks in Israel with my family. I can honestly say we were treated equally respectfully and well by all Jews, religious and secular. Indeed, we our own family is diverse religiously. What a wonderful country Israel is.
35. what do you want?
Secular   (08.08.13)
sadly, but when goverment is failing to provide basic security for secular women in public transportation and supports segragation, people need to act.
36. about time
oliver ,   eilat   (08.08.13)
Its about time that some one stood up against the discrimination of women.Well done
37. To #33
Steve Goodman ,   Israel   (08.08.13)
K....I suspect that you will always find a reason not to make "ALIYAH" this is what cowards do.....make ALIYAH and become part of the solution.....for all your reasons to not make ALIYAH, you are denying yourself the true happiness of a Jew living in our Jewish homelands......get with it and come home.
38. #33, the real reason not to make aliyah
Jake ,   USA   (08.08.13)
Israel is attempting to destroy authentic Judaism. When Haredim are mocked and demonized in every newspaper and radical feminists are allowed to desecrate Jewish shrines, while the police protect Muslim shrines, the state of Israel is no longer a Jewish state, but rather a mockery unto the Jewish nation.
39. The media editors should be sued for incitement to violence
Jake ,   USA   (08.08.13)
The campaign to demonize the Haredim has finally led to violence against the sector. Let there be a trial to uncover the cretins who have spearheaded this campaign of demonization and incitement against Haredim. All the talkbackers who support this act of violence are mentally ill.
40. If Govt. won't solve, you'll see more of this.
sifter   (08.08.13)
Government is derelict for not taking strong, enforceable stand against Haredii coercion. Unfortunately, we;ll see more an more of this. Where there is no strong government, people take law into their own hands.
41. Lies, Lies, and more Lies, swallowed by ignorant masses
Jake ,   USA   (08.08.13)
The Haredim were segregating genders before the state of Israel existed. I don't support their rigidity, but I support their right to live autonomously according to their own rules. They don't tell women to go to the back because they are "superior" only half-wit morons believe that. They do it because they want separation of the genders and for men not to be gawking at the women in front of them. You may not like it, but it is THEIR RIGHT to live this way. On the light rail, they agreed to have the men ride the "back" car, because it is a separate vehicle. The ignoramuses will continue barking hate, this comment is for those who want the truth.
42. 36 Let him be a real hero and...
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (08.08.13)
stand up against Arab terrorists.
43. 42 Ora Most likely he will...
robert ,   antwerp belgium   (08.08.13)
when he will fulfill his military duty what a substantial number of haredim refuse to do. So the haredi man was trying to be a "hero" against a woman. Is that better?
44. Terrific! The seculars lead the way.
Jo Jo   (08.08.13)
Haredim: More attacks on provocative non-abiding secular women please. That'll teach 'em! To the back!
45. congratulations
Marcel ,   San Jose, Costa Rica   (08.08.13)
I commend the young man for standing up to a Haredi thug. If I had been there I would have punched him in the face.
46. rosa parks was NON-Violent. this here example is violent.
(08.08.13)
therefore not analogous situations. people violence is violence is vile! doesn't solve anything either. so stop it.
47. No shortage of hate-mongering, violence-inciting posters
Jake ,   USA   (08.08.13)
48. Here's a brilliant idea
Shmilfke ,   Toronto   (08.08.13)
Why don't they put men in the back of the bus and women in the front?? Then everyone is happy!!
49. Haredim
Danny ,   Chile   (08.08.13)
Why are haredim looking at women? Why are they not reading or studing, the time they ride a bus instead to harass a women.
50. Private Buses
tom ,   new york   (08.08.13)
In New York Chareidim can't insist on gender segregation for buses and subways . Chareidim have private buses with a mehitzah so they can daven without seeing women , let them at their own expense have private buses or join the 21st century.
51. 41 - but it is THEIR RIGHT to live this way
split ,   US   (08.08.13)
Not in public places utilising public infrastructure and not imposing their rules on the rest of society ,... Don't like the bus and passengers take a walk ,...
52. # 50 - Chareidim have private buses with a mehitzah ,...
split ,   US   (08.08.13)
Ripping off tax-payer by utilising public infrastructure - Almost all of them dwell in subsidised Section 8 apartments, don't pay property taxes that pay for the maintenance of infrastructure ,... You can't use a private bus without roads, signage or sewage system.
53. Jake 41 . Their right to live this way ?
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (08.08.13)
And what about the right for NORMAL Israelis to sit where they want in a PUBLIC transportation ? And they may do it , BY LAW ! If charedim don't like it , let them take a taxi . Is there gender separation in buses in the USA ? do they dare to ask the same thing there ?
54. 43 Robert,do you condone violence?
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (08.08.13)
How was the Haredi man trying to be a hero, by asking without insisting, that the lady changes seat. Knowing her rights, she would refuse firmly As Charles said,no violence needed.
55. 50 Eged is against Haredim having..
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (08.08.13)
their own buses,for economic reasons.
56. 55 . A tender is issued for the exploitation
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (08.08.13)
of a bus line . So even if Egged was not in favor of it , it's another bus company that exploits many of the Beth Shemesh Jerusalem and Tel Aviv lines . The same for the buses in my town , exploited by Dan , now Kavim . Egged has nothing to say i think . The winner of a tender can exploit the line
57. #53, they wanted private buses but were told there's no need
Jake ,   USA   (08.08.13)
Egged offered them segregated public buses so naturally they accepted the offer. Go ahead and force them off the public buses. They'll get private buses and deprive the state of revenue. Real smart.
58. About time
atta boy ,   Tel Aviv   (08.08.13)
Maybe violence isn't a good thing, but bullies need a dose of their own medicine. Anyone trying to send me to the back of a bus (absolutely despicable) will be making no more haredi babies again.
59. #51, rabid anti-semites have no say in this matter. Get lost
Jake ,   USA   (08.08.13)
60. Jumping to Conclusions
Shay ,   USA   (08.08.13)
I'm kind of shocked by some of these responses calling the 'puncher' a hero. Although I don't think it is right to tell a woman to move to the back of the bus, it is much worse to punch someone in the face for saying something you don't agree with-if that was how the world worked, we'd all have a black eye. As someone who lived in Israel and has even spent time with Charedi people, the back of the bus does not signify '2nd class' as it did for African Americans. They are simply dividing the bus into two parts. I think it is wrong for that man to tell someone what to do, but do not assume that he was telling her because he thought she was any worse than him.
