61. Medical reason for women in front
Dan ,   Kefar Saba   (08.08.13)
The ride in front (between the 2 axles) is smoother, men should sit in back. If the men do not want to see women, the rear seats in mendarin busses can face the back. An added value would be to have Shiur on the back window - why waste valuable time?
62. Haredie asks women to go to the back
Shaul ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (08.08.13)
Apparantly the charedie politely asked the women to go to the back. There were no threats and no force used Is it a crime to ask someone anything? Is it a crime for the various mesianic sects to ask people to follow thier religion? Would this chap punch the missionary in his face for his actions? Why is it only when a chareidi asks a women to follow their religion that it becomes a crime?
63. #61, backward facing rear seats. Good idea.
Jake ,   USA   (08.08.13)
Egged should get on it, and silence the hate-mongering fools who compare this to Alabama in the 50's. Of course I fully expect the same hate-mongers to complain about state money going toward outfitting the buses for Haredi use.
64. @57 they pay for El Al, too? Get a grip ( and a tampon ).

65. Another Solution
Noami ,   Tel Aviv   (08.09.13)
If the charedim are sooo bothered by women on the bus, why don't they get a job so that they can afford a car. Then they'll no longer have to be subjected to this awful temptation day in, day out. Now isn't THAT a novel idea.
66. Bus incident
observer13 ,   Toronto, Canada   (08.09.13)
In response to Charedi modesty patrols and general humiliation of women, there should be a secular "women protection" patrols. A couple of knuckle sandwiches will go a long way to improving the situation. My hat off to this youth.
67. backward seats for backward people
backwards seats ,   great idea   (08.09.13)
Move them to the back of the bus!
68. Jake , 57 . When ? give your references please
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (08.09.13)
69. Do not expect change without violence
Dan ,   Los Angeles   (08.10.13)
Religious oppression in Israel is institutionalized, so good luck changing it without violence. Newsreels in the last few years showed that orthodox hooligans engage in violence often and are not willing to compromise on any issue! Actually we export this human garbage to Israel. We enjoy a total separation of religion and state and consequently we have no religious oppression of any kind and we do not have to deal with their idiosyncrasies! Furthermore, we do not pamper and sustain on government payroll these lazy and shiftless Yeshiva-Bochers.

72. One man's hero is another man's villain
Scarborough1414 ,   Scarborough, ON, CA   (08.11.13)
Our rabbi at our shul once took a delegation to Eastern Europe to look at former sites of Jewish habitation. At one point, in Kiev, Ukraine (now Kyiv), the female guide at the museum stupidly (considering who her audience was) described Bogdan Chmelnitsky as "our national hero". Our rabbi spoke up (brave man) and said "not to me". The woman looked puzzled. The rabbi said to her that Chmelnitsky killed 100 thousand Jews in 1648-49, the Hilter of his day. She had no answer. All this is by way of the Jewish secular young man who belted the Hareidi on the 54 bus. Some will see him (identity unknown at this writing) as a hero, others as a villain. It may be refreshing to some to have this guy as a "hero" but eventually this kind of thing will degenerate into mob violence, where innocent Hareidim who have never hurt anyone in their lives will suffer at the hands of vigilantes; the wrong guy will suffer for the wrong misdeeds. Be careful what you wish for, you may get it. A better idea (why am I the only one with any brains?) would be to salt the buses with undercover police officers (male and female) and arrest trouble-makers on the spot, that way it's all done legally, no vigilantism.
