The religion has nothing to do with that. The decisions of the League of Nations clearly stated that Palestine was to be made a Jewish homeland.
32. #31 Nonsense.
On the Balcony   (10.25.13)
The vote of the League of Nations was informed by the Churchill White Paper and statements of the Zionist Organization in which it was made explicitly clear that the envisioned Jewish "homeland" was to be created without prejudice to the rights and position of non-Jewish (Arab) Palestinians and NOT intended to be or become a "Jewish State." Try reading the actual documents, not the spurious pilpul of prejudiced commentators. Or just wait like the rest of us to see what the on-going negotiations between the States of Israel and Palestine produce, if anything,
33. The ironic element about the EU pressure is that:
Hermon Ben-Israel ,   Qatzrin, Israel   (10.25.13)
1) By law, international law, the region in question is part and parcel of "the national home for the Jewish people" as was determined by the League of Nations, 1922, and adopted by the UN and etched into its charter, article 80, 1945, where Jews may settle at will. 2) Ethically, demand that Jews, only because they are Jewish, must limit their living space on earth, refrain from dwelling and conducting their business is a pure form of racism. 3) The Interim Agreement of Sept. 1995 between Israel and the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) permits the existence of Jewish villages and towns in the area in dispute, until the Final Status Agreement is reached, which it has not been reached yet. The EU, in short, is involved in both anti-Jewish racist activity that not only contradicts international law but also contradicts bilateral agreements between the parties in dispute and which were witnessed by the EU. Ironic and sad, indeed!!
34. #24 - More PROVABLY WRONG BS from Sarah
spyguy ,   seattle   (10.25.13)
Israelis are NO more intelligent than any other humans and over 95% of all the technology used in this world did NOT originate from Israel and what did originate from Israel is not critical and can easily be worked around. Israeli technology is pretty much irrelevant to the rest of the world. As Israel isolates itself by extremely bad behavior, that will further decline. Europe and the world do NOT need Israel for anything. In fact as Chinese engineers continue on their path, most technology will increasingly come from Asia (where a lot already comes from).
35. 24 sarahah, don't forget, Britian invented Israel!

36. #30 and Elkin is a great chess player...
Prosecco   (10.25.13)
it makes their "success story" look COMPLETELY differrent
37. Europe
Mike ,   Israeli Jerusalem   (10.25.13)
Europe is not in the position to tell Israel what to do. As far as I can see they need us more then we need them. They let their countries to be concurred by Muslim Arab squatters that straight up simply harass their own citizens and European governments are not doing anything to protect their own from these savages. Europe and it's wisdom can go fly a kite
38. #34 Nice jokes, but you're not right
Logic ,   Israel   (10.25.13)
Everyone has a right to their opinion, but not to their own facts. Israel is a formidable R&D center for countless cutting edge technologies, and therefore every Silicon Valley company worth its salt and countless US transnational corporations have a branch here. Also, Israel has cornered the international drone market, and the natural gas finds put Israel in a much stronger position for the medium-long term vis a vis the EU. The only issue seems to be how to deal with EU neo-colonialistic behavior in the short term. If they are willing to hold up breakthrough technologies (including possibly life-saving technologies that could help their own citizens) due to their petty anti-Israel sentiments, then the EU have revealed themselves as incompetent and corrupt at the very least and extreme anti-humanist ideologues at the most..
39. #7-it is Europe who declines
aa   (10.25.13)
Europe declines slowly toward Islam and ignorance. While Israel is becoming an important High Tech and Science hub for the world. The emigration of Jews from France and the UK to the US and Israel in the coming decades will only fasten this process
40. # 7 David Clarke
Jouni Suonsivu ,   Finland   (10.25.13)
It saddens me that ignorant persons like David Clarke don't understand the EU has no right to mix itself in the conflict between Arabs and Israelis. If the Union, however, decides to mix, it should act in a neutral and balanced manner, unlike it acts nowadays, strongly favoritizing the Arab part against the Israelis. San Remo decisions are still in vigor and this means Israelis have full right to populate all area of the Mandate. Just the Britons stopped more than three thousand years old continuum of Jewish presence in the East Bank in 1922. Britons, and Europeans in general, shoudn't repeat these mistakes.
41. #22 Popularity is not serious geopolitics
Logic ,   Israel   (10.25.13)
Obama couldn't even deliver on the popularity promise (no one likes America more than during the Bush period), but managed to trash a lot of real US interests in the meantime. In any case, Israelis would rather live than be popular, and Netanyahu is a pretty good leader overall for the mainstream, otherwise he wouldn't have been re-elected so many times by at least a plurality of the voters.
42. The world should cut all ties with israel.
Americal Vet   (10.25.13)
israel's actions over the last 60 years confirm it can not be trusted. It,s word, promises, oaths, vows are meaningless.

If Israel is in control of computer technology, then why don't you forbid Iran to use them? This would immediately bring their nuke programme to an end.
46. # 15 Hear Hear!! Excellent post.

47. So where's Burma these days???
BUILD BABY BUILD ,   United States   (10.25.13)
I've forgotten the other name.
48. To Jouni Suonsivu, Finland.
David Clarke ,   Liverpool, England.   (10.25.13)
Europe has every right to interfere in the conflict when its interests are at stake, Europe does not wish to be associated with collaborating in an occupation of a people and trading in a territory whose occupying power is not recognized as the rightful sovereign owner of said occupied territories by any country or international institution on Earth. That is why the EU has boycotted the Settlements and the right-wing religious extremists that inhabit them and not boycotted the nation of Israel and the Israeli population living in its rightful sovereign borders like the BDS movement does, the EU actively wants to collaborate with Israel in the Horizon 2020 project, it just wants Israel to come to its senses diplomaticaly. The treaty of San Remo mearly created the Hashemite Jordanian Kingdom, it did not give mandate Palestine as exclusive Jewish property and contained provisions to look after Palestinian Arabs, Jordan is not Palestine and it is not Reubans land it is a sovereign state that borders Israel and Will border Palestine once that nation is eventualy created.
49. China
Prosecco   (10.25.13)
To all talkbackers voting for China. You will be be VERY disappointed. Your silly hopes prove that you know nothing about EU, China, business, international trade and asian culture. Everybody who was ever involved in multi-national project would never vote for such shift for Israel. And BTW, did Chinese already called you and offered billions of investments?
50. #48, You give Israel the right to interfere in N. Ireland,
Steve Benassi ,   Silver Bay, MN USA   (10.25.13)
Scotland, Wales and Cornwall independence issues and urge international community to boycott UK for not satisfying those aspirations.

54. #29.Its not about "West Bank"-Its about getting Arabs to
Alan ,   SA   (10.25.13)
finish the jobs that the Europeans (as a group),to their own regret, didnt finish by May 1945
55. 18 you are confused
CJK   (10.25.13)
only israelis who have parents who came from europe can get passports, and not from every country. those passports are given as a right, just as any other person in the same situation would get a passport, i.e., a south american with european parents. Israel could change trade policies if so needed. the market in asia is much larger than the market in europe. I know that you hope that Israel will disappear. it is a futile hope.
56. #24 If you repeat it often....
Robert ,   Australia   (10.26.13)
.....enough you will believe it. You are the proof.
57. #42 america
solomon ,   bklyn   (10.26.13)
You have some serious historical reading to do. Or are you saying that Israel’s successful defense of itself against onslaught by arabs, again and again, is not to your liking?
58. #26 wrong on
solomon ,   bklyn   (10.26.13)
None of the disputes you mention involve people that threaten to annihilate their opponents, nor teach their children to hate. None of these states were created as recently as the 1960’s. None of these states have partners with whom they play good-cop, bad-cop (think PA -Hamas). None of these states has endured terrorist attacks from the other, in which children were targets along with anyone else. Your comparisons are spurious at best.
59. #48 david - wrong
solomon ,   bklyn   (10.26.13)
San Remo had nothing to do with Jordan; didn’t even mention it. Two years later England decided to unilaterally create the arab state with over 70% of the original Mandate. The League of Nations confirmed, but none of this had anything to do with San Remo.
60. #32 wrong again
solomon ,   bklyn   (10.26.13)
1. “Jewish "homeland" was to be created” - A state for a people is a homeland. 2. “ without prejudice to the rights and position of non-Jewish (Arab) Palestinians” How does this statement intend or not intend the creation of a Jewish state? There is no relation, except in your imagination.
