1. Haredi are to Jews, what Jews are world, blind spoiled brats
Steve Benassi ,   Silver Bay, MN USA   (12.09.13)
2. Conscription
Joseph ,   London England   (12.09.13)
I am against arresting B'nai Torah because it's the worst way forward, BUT I would note that Haredinm were conscripted into the UK, USA and French armies . When the US Army demanded that conscripts shave, even Rav Yoelish ztl found a heter by shaving without a straight razor. There were no riots or protests. During WW II Britain even formed a Jewish division in the army in Palestine. Is protecting Eretz HaKodesh today any less of a Mitzvah?
3. But Israeli gov't makes these guys our religious rulers
Non-KoolAid Drinker ,   DrinkyurownKoolAid   (12.09.13)
Shames us in the eyes of the entire world and these black-coated medieval primitives are the real blasphemy!
4. WHAT THE TORAH SAYS :
CAPTAIN OBVIOUS ,   SAFED OBVIOUS HOUSE   (12.09.13)
"Every able man of the age of twenty must go to the army." This is what the Torah commands. Many Haredim expect others to sustain them and to defend them because they have a lousy and shameful attitude.
5. heredi have to go into idf or else
milson   (12.09.13)
this is required. It has to be done as currently haredi are defenseless and do not contribute
6. Reminds me of the Cantonists

7. what is owed
fred lapides ,   USA   (12.09.13)
Y0ou owe nation right to worship as you please? Then you owe defending that nation that protects you. Don't want to? MOVER ELSEWHERE
8. HAREDI ARROGANCE IS LIMITLESS
TEL EM STRAIGHT ,   SAFED CYNIC HOUSE   (12.09.13)
These parasites think that they are superior to everybody else . They take it for granted that others will defend them and pay for them etc such unmitigated Chutzpah.
9. AN OBVIOUS QUESTION :
CAPTAIN OBVIOUS ,   SAFED OBVIOUS HOUSE   (12.09.13)
Q : if army recruitment is " blasphemous" who will defend the israelis ?
10. #1, And what do you produce, exactly?
Jake   (12.09.13)
Apart from an abundance of lame posts on our websites. You are to this site, what a barnacle is to a ship hull.
11. ELECT ME AS PRIME MINISTER
TEL EM STRAIGHT ,   SAFED OBVIOUS HOUSE   (12.09.13)
These lazy bums who try to evade military duty and an honest days' work will not know what hit them . I will offer them the following choices : 1) three years military service ; 2) Three years in prison ; 3) Three years back -breaking work in a chain gang.
12. charedi enlistment
terry ,   idler   (12.09.13)
we've never been needed in the army and still aren't, yalon is dying to keep up out of idf. And he anything you lot are selfish, why do our people have to suffer cos you wanna be more immoral than the USA? Huh
13. Caïn and solidarity
robert ,   antwerp belgium   (12.09.13)
When God asked Caïn where is Abel, he answered: am I my brothers protector? The attitude of haredim who refuse to enlist (not all do) is similar to that of Caïn since they do not want to protect their brothers. Also, it is a lack of solidarity that goes against "kol Israel arevim ze la ze" (all Israël is interdependent). Let's pray that they may repent and join the Jewish people in peace
14. Remember before you condemn
Rabbi Yakov Lazaros ,   USA   (12.09.13)
There are plenty of secular boys from Tel-Aviv that use every trick in the book to avoid the IDF. I have not read any stories about them being arrested. There are plenty of frum boys and Yeshiva boys who enlist every year on their own. This Lapid plan of forcing every Yeshiva boy to serve is counter productive and will backfire.
15. Haredim are as far from God as one can be
Avi   (12.09.13)
The torah clearly talks about military service, and to protect yourself. It talks about being soldiers in the bible times, of needing to serve. It also talks about paying back your debt. Never owe anything back for the sake of your soul. Haredim must serve and repay the debt to the nation of Jews, and they must protect their people (ALL their people) and their families. Instead they believe their prayer is enough and hashem does all the work, but hashem does not help you if you do not help yourself first. They raise their hands on their own brethren but not their real enemies that wish to kill them. That is sin'at hinam.

18. 14 Rabbi Lazaros. The tactics...
robert ,   antwerp belgium   (12.09.13)
may be tough to swallow for the frum or yeshiva boys but the argument you use is also wrong. First nobody of right mind would argue that because there are thieves that stealing is an option. Secondly, secular boys from tel Aviv or elsewhere are being arrested for evading conscription. But since they are exceptions and not the norm, nobody is writing about them
19. A sacred endeavor.
michael Pielet ,   israel   (12.09.13)
My little grandson, he is 8 years old, will proudly fight for the nation when he becomes a man. I hope that there will be many other young men that will join him in this sacred endeavor protecting the Jewish nation. The haredim currently have a problem understanding the concept of defense of the nation. The haredim should be encouraged to join the Israeli Defense Forces. Maybe those who refuse to join should consider returning to Poland or Brooklyn. Also the helonim in Tel Aviv should become more patriotic and join up.
20. R.Lazaros, respect the truth!
Ehud   (12.09.13)
The numbers of secular draft-dodgers are miniscule compared to masses of Haredim living protected by their secular brothers and carried on the latters' back! Secular draft-dodgers are prosecuted, and everyone knows that the so-called Haredim enlisted are chozrey beteshuva, national religious who became black plus a few Yeshiva drop-outs. You won't find anyone from Mea Shearim there - not from Gur, not from Beltz, not from Vishnitz. It's all made up, and the numbers are ridiculously low. We are fed up of sending our sons into the line of fire for a bunch of bigoted cowards who declare themselves under god's special protection and absolved from everyone's duty!
21. problem was created by Ben Gurion & early leaders
zionist forever   (12.09.13)
Most of todays problems were created by previous leaders. Ben Gurion decided to give the haredi an IDF opt out clause, if he hadn't from the very start they would have taken the attitude of national service means everybody. They have been allowed not to serve if they don't want that attitude is that it is wrong to ask them to. No government ever laid down the law to the Bedouin before explained they don't own the Negev which is why the Prawer plan is a problem. Moshe Dayan said Temple Mount should be in the hands of the Wqaf. In 1967 when the arabs are scared of what the Jews might do they would have sold out for way bellow market price and so there would never have been an arab East Jerusalem and Jews today would not be banned from the Temple Mount. Always been desperate to try appease minorities be it haredi, Bedouin or so called palestinians. The courts taking sides with the infiltrators will come back to haunt us one day and another government is going to find itself desperately trying to fight a loosing battle.
22. torah point of view
terry   (12.09.13)
1 we're not gonna join an force which one of it's primary goals is to mold an ideal israeli i.e far from torah, mitzvos and God. 2 Joshua's army suffered losses due to one sinner...
23. If king David was in attendance. These protestors would bow
Adi ,   Zurich   (12.09.13)
If king David was in attendance. These protestors would bow in disgrace
24. honesty
terry   (12.09.13)
to those bible quoters; yes of course there is nothing wrong to serve in a needed role. However, 1.the army don't need us 2. The idf conscription is in order to mold the 'ideal israeli' (which we all know is to keep torah and hashem's commandts out of our lives) 4 Yehoshua's army lost lives when ONE soldier sinned... Whats with an army thats purpose is to sin. And by the way israel is for the jews to keep the torah not mimick usa
25. Religious extremists
Alexander ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (12.09.13)
Neither God nor Judaism nor Zionism nor human nature nor Jewish/Israeli patiotism nor a minimum amount of human decency prevents people of Jewish ethnicity and Jewish religion, to get a military training to protect their homeland. Jewish nationalism/patriotism and Judaism go hand in hand. Many Jewish nationalists in ancient times were religious and fought for Israel. Judah HaMacabee, Bar Kochba etc - weren't they Jewish as well? Why could they practice Judaism and fight for Israel in ancient times but not these modern religious fanatics? These religious fanatic airheads are corrupting Judaism and erronously believe that their secterian beliefs - which are based on tradition and culture and nothing else (and have nothing to do with either God or spirituality), would all of the sudden be representative of what God Himself thinks, feels and believes. Utter arrogance to assume that they represent God and Judaism and that God and Judaism supposedly "exhorts" Jews to be pacifist Torah students who cannot even pick up a gun and fight for the very homeland and society that make their lives possible. The gift of Life is the single most precious thing God has given to us and not fighting for one's life, freedom and property, goes against Judaism's core beliefs. Judaism says it is not only your right but your OBLIGATION to defend and protect yourself. It means Judaism AGREES with the IDF! There is NO conflict between IDF and Judaism. There is a conflict between IDF and religious nutcases who falsely believe they "represent" Judaism. They don't.
26. 17 Ora Bad comparison because...
robert ,   antwerp belgium   (12.09.13)
FERTILIZERS STINK and haredim , with some exceptions, do not stink. Haredim should not behave like Caïn with his brother Abel in saying: Am I my brother's protector?
27. Repy to 18 and 20
Rabbi Yakov Lazaros ,   USA   (12.09.13)
The problem in Israel today is the the media and more importantly the Judiciary are very leftist. When Anat Kamm publicized thousands of classified military documents she was given "house arrest" while awaiting trial. Then she was sentenced to only 4 years in prison. Then the Israeli Supreme court reduced her sentence to only 3 years. She was portrayed in the leftist press as a heroine. Contrast that to how Haredim are portryed in the Israeli press and to them being sent straight to jail for refusing to serve. No "house arrest" here. As I stated before many fine "frum" boys do in fact serve in the IDF including several from my family. But not evryone is cut out to be a soldier. Minister of Defense Moshe Yalon himself said so.
28. #27 (R. Lazaros) - how is that a reply...
Ehud   (12.09.13)
...to my simple question why I have to send my sons into the line of fire, while hundreds of thousands arrogantly claim that god has hand-picked them to be exempt and protected? What has this question to do with the press? And while Anat Kam is in jail for her arrogant, narcissistic crime, I have still to see a Haredi sitting in jail for 3 years for draft-dodging. And what has being right or left to do with good citizenship? For 3 decades Haredim have enjoyed unjustifiable privileges and whined and shouted 'G'walt' and 'persecution' every time someone dares to demand they share some of the burden! They managed to make good-willing people turning in disgust from the religious establishment, and religion itself. Some pious achievement!
29. 26 robert Bad comparison because
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (12.09.13)
Cain killed his brother,Haredim don't kill their brothers .They keep them by keeping the Tora ,which their brothers not always do.
30. israelis have no insight
dave ,   new york   (12.09.13)
i've met plenty of smart israelis, but there is a certain part of the brain that they are missing: the ability to have insight into how they might be wrong. the national religious and the secular acknowledge that the army is a "melting pot" where people are indoctrinated into "israeli culture", but then then can not seem to comprehend why the haredim may object to that. they cannot be honest with themselves and says the truth: that the army doesnt need haredim and doesnt want them and that the only purpose for this draft is to destroy haredi culture.
