31. to Lois and Robert
Hilda ,   US   (10.16.05)
Danny Pipes tells it like it is. He is one of the most credible people out there.
32. Linda--need a valium?
C'est Moi ,   Canada   (10.16.05)
LInda are you sure you are not the anti-christ? You scare me sometimes. pop a couple of valiums and you will sleep well. Please do.
33. Lois- I TOTALLY agree with you !
Rebecca ,   Sunnybrooke   (10.16.05)
Once again Lois- I TOTALLY agree with you ! She really is every bit as ignorant as Ray Hanania- and just as easily entranced by pipers whose play a pretty tune to lure all the children right over a cliff.
34. To No. 28 - Pipes Credible?
Lois D. ,   Baltimore,Md.   (10.16.05)
Well I hope you know what sarcasm is!
35. Wow, another great "credible" source
Lois D. ,   Baltimore, Md./USA   (10.16.05)
I put "credible" in quotes so there's no misunderstanding what I mean. Now Ms. Rivera offers a World Net Daily article, who also suffers from Islamophobia! I happen to be married to a Palestinian Christian, and know how Palestinian Muslims and Christians are treated, so don't try to make this into a Muslim or issue while I'm around. Just surprised that Ray makes jokes out of people's suffering. I bet he doesn't make jokes out of the Nazi persecution of Jews.
36. Stop blaming the Palestinian Muslims Hilda
Lois D. ,   Baltimore,Md./USA   (10.17.05)
Hilda, you're obviously in denial of the fact that all Palestinians suffer under Israel's oppressive and racist occupation. It's something you need to face. Christians are no different. They are subjected to the same racist laws that Muslims only because they are not Jews. I am married to a Christian Palestinian and speak from experience, and not from your misguided information that you're trying to place here. I sure do remember what happened to the Church of the Nativity and the damage that the Israeli army caused to it. Stop blaming Palestinians for the destruction that's caused This is like blaming the Jews for the Warsaw Ghetto being destroyed.
37. #36
Robert Goldman ,   cooper city Florida   (10.17.05)
Tell us why the Christian Palestinians have made repeated requests to the Israeli Govt . for them to stay under Israeli control and not go back to Arab control? what? no answers? Come on tell me why the population of Bet Jalla begged on Israeli Army Radio publicly for the IDF to stay and protect them?
38. Dear Lord:
Stephen ,   Raleigh, NC USA   (10.17.05)
Save me from your followers.
39. #38
Brad ,   Wichita US   (10.17.05)
Amen, Stephen.
40. Daniel Pipes IS credible, Lois D.-HE cites examples (u dont)
Russell ,   Miami   (10.17.05)
Most of his work is very valuable and right on the money. Rather than dismiss him with a blanket attack, why don't you list some instances where you think he is lying if you find he is not credible. I'd bet you couldn't do it. He is meticulous in attributing sources to everything.
41. Gone a bit pear shaped
(10.17.05)
I think after the first 5 or so talkbacks eveyone lost the plot a bit. I dont even know who daniel pipes is anyway, but I hope he doesnt offend the gay community because thats a very unfortunate sirname hes got - or maybe hes a plumber?
42. What is so difficult for some of you to understand??
Lois D. ,   Baltimore,Md./USA   (10.18.05)
Some of you make make distinctions here between Muslim and Christians, but there is no distinction whatever between Palestinian Muslims and Christians as far as Israeli law goes who treats every Palestinian as an enemy under those laws simply becuase he is not Jewish. Daniel Pipes cannot change what is a fact no matter what opinons he may offer. All Palestinians suffer under Israeli oppression. Christians and Jews are not under Palestinian "Muslim" occupation, but are Christians and Muslims who suffer under Israeli Zionist Jewish occupation. That is not my opinion ladies and gents. That is what the reality is and what Israel's laws and policies are. If it is so offensive to any of you that you cannot bear to hear it, then it means you should be doing something about it.
43. # 41 not pear shaped at all- simply a full circle
Rebecca ,   Sunnybrooke   (10.18.05)
the real plot I see emerging on the talk back is that each in his own, the comedian Ray, and the pied piper Pipes are both doing what they can in their own ways to reinforce Zionism and Israeli racism. # 42 makes the full circle clear with her excellent point about Israeli oppression of Christians and Muslims...and her hope that others will realize that this simply is not good for any one and we all must do what we can to do something about it.
44. to #42 and #43
(10.18.05)
Palestinians are unfortunately treated, for the most part, as second class citizens in Israel That situation need to be remedeed, no doubt about it, we can do better. But you need to understand that they are doing A LOT better here in Israel than they are in Lebanon or Syria or Jordan or Egypt. Most people dont acknowlege this publically but other arabs genuinely HATE palestinians. Why do you think they are never allowed them to integrate into the arab societies in which they live, whether its lebanon, syria, jordan, egypt? They just left them in their camps to rot. You have a lot of nerve writting all the way from US Who invaded Iraq on a lie? You did. Who kills people everyday there and calls it ''collateral damage''? You do. Who bullied the chinese into re-valueing their currency so as not to put too much pressure on US investors and consumers and keep them where they are ''needed''? You did. Who massacred 95% of their native population and to this day refuse to intergate them into mainstream society? You did. Who is really RASCIST? You are. Thats why the majority of prisoners in american jails are black. Its not just poverty, its a total lack of care and concern for people who want to work but cant get educated or get a job purely because of the colour of their skin America is a whole mother hypocrit (and thats from an american band)
45. Is anyone reading the column?
Avram Rothman ,   New York   (10.19.05)
What's truly amazing to me is that most people here are arguing about stupid things. I say stupid things because they claim their side is right and the other side is wrong. Only the other side has done bad things, but their side never does bad things. I like Ray's columns. And all the talkbalks in the world won't change the fact that he distinguishes himself above most of you who are bockering with anger back and forth. He's a moderate. There are Israeli moderates. At some point, the moderates have to come together not as Arabs or Israelis, but as moderates seeking to end this conflict. I live in New York and have lived in Tel Aviv. I can't live there any more. It's too frightening. I know that the chances of getting murdered in New York or Chicago are far greater than in Tel Aviv or Ramallah, Erushalyam or Hevron. But Israel is far from the dream they promised me as a Jew, and I am sure far better than what the Palestinians might get when they have their own independence, based on the carnage taking place in Palestinian controlled Gaza. It doesn't matter whether the Israelis have imprisoned the Palestinians or not in Gaza. They are still killing themselves, fighting among themselves and I am sure that Christians have no voice or role in that small part of what may someday become the first step in a Palestinian State. I don't know Ray Hanania and he means nothing by himself. But what he stands for is something we should all be fighting for. Maybe his nuances are not perfect. He's Palestinian. I don't expect him to be pro-Israel. I expect his moderation to lean in his direction. Surely, we have found a way to die together. Can't we find a way to live together? Avram Rothman
46. I agree #45 Avram
(10.20.05)
However I do think that while everyone has seriously lost the plot, judging from the comments that have been made so far, it would be quite fair to say that theres a certain amount of imperial style arrogance from the america talkbacks (not all but most) that quite frankly most of us could do without. Good job Ray for giving us all the voice of reason. Keep it up
47. Thank you, Avram
Ray Hanania ,   Chicago, USA   (10.20.05)
Dear Avram You have reminded we why I should focus ahead and look forward at the dream, and not succumb to the pressures of anger that keep us all lookibg backwards. One good letter like yours says so much. I really appreciate it. It inspires me to try to be even more forceful in my moderation, more reticent in my principles, and more sensitive to the fact that this terrible conflict has caused good people to say bad things that we might not have said under other, more peaceful conditions. I know we can be great friends, Palestinian and Jew, if only we could be given the chance. I consider as true friends and genuine moderates you, Duv, and a handful of others whom I have met on this web site, along with the very forward-thinking editors of Yedioth Ahronoth who have given me a voice here. Thank you Ray Hanania
48. quick hello
Duv   (10.21.05)
Talk about anger management! All of you get so angry, ay, but its ok. If it meant nothing to you all then you wouldnt be so passionate about all this. Kol hakavod! Just try stick to the topic next time ok? One word of advice: Breath and then goooooozzffrrraaaabaaaaaaa
49. # 45 the topic of the column
Rebecca ,   Sunnybrooke   (10.26.05)
The topic of the column.. Lets see- Ray writes in an Israeli paper about God- God talking to Bush. Meanwhile Zionists usurp Palestinian land and rights because they too believe God has talked to them and told them it is all theirs for the taking. How much more on topic can one be ! But for this entrenched and terribly dangerous notion that God blesses racist Israeli laws and walls and that such obvious injustice should be armed and defended no matter what the cost ( while more and more Israeli children, both Arab and Jew, live in growing poverty), Zionism would be just another one of many ways to look at the world. American taxpayers pay billions a year to help empower this mess, while comedians like Ray vigorously claim to be the voice of reason and moderation, mainly helping endorse Zionist delusions and a very dangerous status quo.
50. To Rebecca 49
Lois D. ,   Baltimore, Md./USA   (10.26.05)
Great points you brought out. I don't know what Ray Hanania stands for as No. 45 said. The only thing I can associate it with is that Ray claims to be a "stand-up" comedian, but personally, I think he should sit down. :)
51. Response to "Lois" and "Rebecca"
Ray Hanania ,   Chicago, IL, US   (10.26.05)
These are two typical supporters of the Palestinians. They wan tto support us to death. They hate any Palestinian who dares to denounce Hamas as a terrorist organization, to denounce suicide bombings not as a defense against aggression but as an unconsionable sin, and who say they are willing to compromise with Israel. The Palestinian and Islamic fanatics are a minority, but they have a strangle hold on our people. Most Palestinians agree with my views, but are afraid to speak out against extremists like Lois and Rebecca. These are people who denounce the killings of Palestinians (rightly so) but un-righteously refuse to denounce the Palestinian killing of Jews and Israelis. Hey Lois and Rebecca. You can criticize me all you want. All I know is the standup comedy works, far more popular than some of the extremists who stumble around in the West Bank exploiting our suffering for their own gain (and hoping to keep Palestinians donwtrodden so they can rail and attack Israelis). I am doing very well, writing not just for Yedioth Ahronoth, an Israeli newspaper, but also several Arab World publications and many American mainstream newspapers. But, I don't need to tell you that. You know all that. I'm proud to speak out against fanatics. I also speak out against extremist Israeli politicies. But the difference between Lois and Rebecca, and with me, is that I am not an anti-Semite and I believe in equality for Muslims, Christians and Jews. Obviously Lois and Rebecca would like to see Christians and Jews enslaved as "tolerated" second class citizens in the Arab World. Not me :) (To other readers, you don't understand how much my writing gets under the skin of the Islamic fanatics. They are the true morons who have hijacked Islam, distorted its true meaning, and have subjugated and enslaved Women the way they wish to subjugate and enslave Christians and Jews, too.) Ray Hanania www.hanania.com
52. Good heavens "Ray" !
Rebecca ,   Sunnybrooke   (10.27.05)
Good heavens "Ray"- you make many totally absurd assumptions and false charges in your tirade here. Yes indeed, Heeeere's Ray- the- ranting- know- it- all- comedic- " moderate " who angrily flings out popular insults as fast as he can to make a quick buck. Now don't forget dear readers, Ray wants you to believe that the only possible way any one could fail to adore his so very adorable antics is if they are certified Islamic fanatics.
53. Calling names to silence criticism
Lois D. ,   Baltimore, Md./USA   (10.27.05)
The worst thing you could do Ray is make assumptions about people. I am married to a Palestinian Arab, but it just so happens that my mother is Jewish which gives me full rights to be a citizen of Israel while other Palestinians have no rights. If you really believed in equality between Muslims, Jews and Christians, you would be speaking out against Israeli racism because it is a racist state where the non-Jewish population are unequal. Instead, you sound typical like all Zionists who try to silence any criticism of Israel by calling people anti-semites. You even have to lower yourself by calling people names or insinuating that they are "Islamic fanatics." At least don't try to earn your bucks at the expense of those who are really suffering because it just ain't funny.
54. Unlike Rebecca and Lois
Ray Hanania ,   Chicago, IL USA   (10.28.05)
We just have to believe everything that "Rebecca" and "Lois" have to say, because they have done such a good job of identifying themselves. How about one email address? How about some reason? Man, you bash Israelis and Jews and then you hide behind your "alleged Jewishness" Lois ... as for Rebecca, she easily bashes Israelis but is SO SILENT when a fanatic blows himself up and kills five innocent Israeli civilians. Suicide bombings are a Crime! There is no excuse for it, not even from the defenders of the fanaticism. You don't have to be Muslim to be a fanatic or extremist or a terrorist. And making fun of people like you pays well and makes me feel good. I condemn both sides in this conflict, not just one (as you both do, always bashing Israel BUT NEVER condemning your side ... defeaning silence after yesterday's suicide/homicide bombing and murders?) The moral position is to condemn killing, NOT the killing of one side or another. I feel good knowing that I can stand by a principle, not one side of a political argument. :) But, thanks for writing anyway. My best defense is your continued hatred and anger. I love it. I also try to be as public about my views as possible for reasons of promoting moderation. You don't see too much of that for reasons that both Rebecca and Lois demonstrate with their bullying and one-sided anger. Thanks Ray Hanania www.hanania.com
55. The real comedian steps out now
Louis D. ,   Baltimore, Md.   (10.28.05)
Now I find Ray really humorous. He only questions my credibility and wants some form of identification simply because he says I am “allegedly” a Jew as if there are no Jews who exist who don’t agree with my position. It’s not as though I came here stating I'm Ariel Sharon. It’s not me who’s writing for YNet, and if YNet is that particular about who responds, then they should have Letters to Editor instead where the person has to identify himself with a full name, address and phone number just like other papers. It’s pretty obvious though that Ray didn’t ask for anyone s else’s email or ID, especially those that praised him. Who knows, maybe he submitted those responses in favor of himself or had friends do it. I think Ray assumes that just because his wife is Jewish and supports his indifference to his own people enough to poke fun at their deep suffering, that every Jew must feel the same way. Well, Ray, I am not your wife .and thankfully you’re not my husband, and you are the one who’s writing the column for YNet, not me. I will say one thing though, there are Israeli Jewish journalists out there who put you to shame. Maybe you should read what they’re saying and at least educate yourself. There are also plenty decent Jews out there who are not Zionists, but there are also plenty non-Jews like yourselves who are Zionists. Only Zionists would dare say criticisms of Israel is Jew-bashing. Maybe Ray would have a different view if the home of his parents was destroyed, or would he even find humor in that?
56. to number 10, 14 and all other biased
Maya, Israel   (10.29.05)
by choosing a side in war, especially one full of hatred you are achieving what? ill tell you what: more war. if you lived in israel you would see just how grey this war is, not black and white, but you sit in the US with your arrogance and tell me my people are racist, with zero to NO knowledge about life...i wont get mad...ill just let god sort you out with hurricanes and whatever you deserve. enjoy drowning.
57. "Ray"
Rebecca ,   Sunnybrooke   (10.29.05)
Give an angry "comic", who gets a really big kick out of writing a Bush bashing column for a foreign paper, my address ... sorry but no thanks. And for the record I do not condone or approve of suicide bombings. So try some other fairy tale bud. You are barking up the wrong tree.
58. Yea, right, Rebecca of Sunnybrooke Farm
Ray Hanania ,   Chicago, IL USA   (10.29.05)
Sure Miss Principle! It's not enough to say you don't condone suicide bombings. YOU MUST DENOUNCE THEM. That's the tactic of the extremists. They hide behind murder and the killing of innocent civilians and say "Oh. I didn't do that. I don't condone that." But you do and you have by your silence. Suicide bombings are the issue. Rejection of the right of Jews to live as equals IS the issue. While I have disagreements with Israeli policy regarding the way they mistreat Palestinians, that is a government and political issue, not a people issue of hatred. I am barking up the right tree, a rotten tree. But I suspect in your fairytale farm where you hide, it's easier to spew hatred anonymously than to grab the real issues by the horn. I don't mind it at all. I get attacked by Muslims, Christians and Jews. But the on thing they have in common that keeps me going is that they are usually all fanatics and extremists with equal leavels of hatred. And the moderates and those who support peace -- Muslims, Christians and Jews, cheer me on. This is one argument I am enjoying. It gives me energy to keep forging ahead. Thanks for that Ray Hanania www.hanania.com
