2. Yeah, give it a rest.
Roger ,   USA   (01.19.06)
There is NO moral equivalent between the Arabs claiming the Palestinian identify and the Israeli Jews. It is like comparing the serial murderers with the jaywalkers. Obviously, the Palestinian Arab killers would have felt a lot better if the Jews had not defended themselves so that they could rampage the Jewish state.
3. Thank you Ray
Ryan ,   Chicago, IL   (01.19.06)
Thanks for raising a good point Ray, Palestinians and Israelis are too busy calling each other names instead of sitting on the negotiations table and come up with final and fair solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. As you mentioned, so many Isrealis, Jews, and Zionists still deny the existance of Palestine and the Palestinian people. History has proven that all occupations have ended in some way, I am totally convinced that one day, the Israelis and Palestinians will live side by side in peace despite all the extremists on both side.
5. Lynn Redgrave was in Israel!
Logic ,   Israel   (01.19.06)
Back in 1994 after the signing of the Oslo accords, Ms. Redgrave tried to hold a seminar in Haifa. Only six losers bought tickets, so she had to cancel the lecture and wonder why she wasn't too popular here...
6. Palestine is at best like Siberia, Sahara or the Alps
Ben ,   USA   (01.19.06)
When a Frenchman moves from Paris to the Alps he does not become an Alpian. When a Russian moves from Moscow to Siberia he/she does not automatically acquire the Siberian ethnicity. When a Libyan Arab moves South he/she may live in the Saharan region but he/she still remains an Arab. The Arabs claiming to be Palestinian have acquired that regional identity by default when the Jews became Israeli. Those who don't understand the Middle East may think that Palestinian is an ethnicity. It is not. In fact, the first Palestinian were Jews. However, the Arabs love to take what the Jews have: be that land, water, electricity or in this case national identity.
7. When will Hollywood humanize the Al-Qaeda terrorists
Rose ,   USA   (01.19.06)
Nah! Hollywood would not care to humanize the Al-Qaeda terrorists for the fear of the American backlash. However, Israel is not America. According to the Hollywood moguls who are distributing the trash profuced by those who humanize the serial killers Israel obviously can take the pain.
8. There has never been a sovereignity
Ann ,   USA   (01.19.06)
There has never been a sovereignity by the name of Palestine. At least not in the history of this planet. In fact, the Arabs have a de-facto Palestinian state and its name is Jordan where 70% of the population, including the queen, claim the Palestinian Arab origin. So, now the Arabs in addition to the 22 Arab tyrannies want to have 2 Palestines. One under the rule of the Hashemite family and another one under the Hamas. ...and that is what they are proud of...
9. Ray Hanania is proud! Comical!
Rose ,   USA   (01.19.06)
Proud to be a Palestinian? is he an Arab American, a Palestinian Arab American or Palestinian American? He is confused just like the Arabs who define themselves Palestinian are confused. Arafat was born in Egypt but decided he was Palestinian. When the Arabs repeat a lie 1000 times it becomes the truth and reality. Since they are not going to build the medical research centers and facilities to assist the sick they will continue living in make-belief. Especially when the Jews provide them with water, electiricity, phone service and even the medical care so they they can raise more terrorists to kill the Jews. That is what they are proud about.
10. Ray = hypocrite supreme!
Gil ,   Tel Aviv   (01.19.06)
Ray, you whine on about Palestinians but Jordan is this huge Palestinian country right next to the tiny strip of beach that so many refuse to acknowledge as Israel. Even the flag of Jordan is exactly the same flag that the arab thugs who chuck petrol bombs at our troops wave when running away. What I will never understand is the deafening silence from Palestinians when asked about Jordan... the country that IS Palestine. Lets face it, if it was a Jewish country it would be a different story. Hypocrite.
11. Yes there is a Palestine
Micha ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (01.19.06)
The Palestinian people exist and there are areas considered to be occupied Palestinian territory. However this Palestinian territory has developed over time on the Jewish Land of Israel. In other words, the land from the river to the sea is part of the Eretz Yisrael. This is not a political statement, it is simply an historical fact. Nevertheless we should all try to get along peacefully together.
12. #4:ha ha ha-stupid talkabout and fool idea
mammar -palestinian ,   nablus   (01.19.06)
i say to #4 that who are you to clear the history or deny it even ignoring it if you need to be subjective people don't blind or close your eyes about facts palestine is only palestine for palestinians were lived before establishing zionist state and this land will turn back for arabs
13. Ray Hanania
robin ,   Israel   (01.19.06)
I don't think anyone, except the extremists (who are a minority) in Israel are against having a Palestinian State. I don't think they ever were. But I don't think it should be unconditional. And I think the violent acts being done on a people who just 50 years lost almost half of their total world population is nothing to be proud of.

Israel never existed and will be wiped off the map very soon. stop your silly repeated comments and be positive in your discussion stupid racist. Hope that you like my signature.
15. movie
peter ,   amsterdam, holland   (01.19.06)
go see the movie 1st and you'll see that hany abu-asad doesn't glorify suicidebombing. all this ideological hobby horse riding is tiresome. most jews and arabs now better.
16. Glorifying terrorism
Jak ,   South Africa   (01.19.06)
This artcle has missed the whole point - it's one thing that the fil came from "Palestine" but the real issue here that makes it so despicable is that it lgorified terrorism - a point that has hardly been addressed by this article. When the Palestinian people actually stop celebrating the murder of innocent Jews then we'll be able to go somewhere...
17. PROUD ?
nieuwenhuizen   (01.19.06)
not proud of scientific achievements, of economic achievents of medical achievements.... proud of murderers this shows what low life Palestinscum really is
18. Ray I'm sorry that you are proud
Dan ,   USA   (01.19.06)
of Vanessa Redgrave. She is a bigoted anti-Semite. I had thought better of you.
19. Ray proud 2b a palestinian ! & YEAH PALESTINE EXISTS!
perpetual_dream ,   jerusalem   (01.19.06)

21. Any film against Israel and Zionism is sure to succeed.
Tahl ,   Israel   (01.19.06)
Happened so many times before, so not much of a surprise here. Let us just hope that this film remains a mere "art" form with no real effects on people's minds, or implications on the world's opinion about Palestinians and their terrorist activities. Terrorist bombers are NOT human. Period.

23. Vanessa Redgrave and the "Palestinians"
Kate ,   London   (01.19.06)
In the movie so glowingly referred to by Hanania, Redgrave was seen in a PLO training camp dancing as she waved a rifle above her head. Her later comments about "Zionist thugs" were all of a piece with her viciously anti-Israeli views. To be proud of Redgrave is to be proud of violence by terrorists against innocent civilians. The problem with this current movie is that whilst it humanised the murderers it did not show the murdered or the maimed. Contrary to Hanania's belief that "neither side can reach peace because too many Palestinians and Israelis are too busy calling each other names," the truth is that peace has not occurred because Palestinians have not given up their belief that Israel can be destroyed by a combination of military and demographic means. The day Hanania should be proud is the same day that Palestinians decide to stop killing Israeli civilians and sit down at a table with Israel to negotiate in good faith a real peace.
24. A question for Ryan for Chicago
Kate ,   London   (01.19.06)
Ryan writes: "History has proven that all occupations have ended in some way" So the descendants of those people who created the United States by a process of colonisation and genocide will be leaving when exactly?
25. hanania -- there's no palestine!
mehere   (01.19.06)
get it thru your thick skull-- there never was ,is and never will be a country name palestine. the sooner you get used to it ,the easier it will be for you to accept your newly found homel and-- jordan!
26. #14
(01.19.06)
You seem to confuse your personal wishes with the reality. Israel exists and have existed, Palestine (except as a jewish entity) does not exist, never existed, this is a hard fact. And if there s law, dignity and justice in the world will never exist. So the stupid racist is you. Hope that you like my signature.
27. Making Suicide Bombers look human
Daniel ,   Amsterdam, Holland   (01.19.06)
That's a weird thing to complain about. If suicide bombers weren't human they would not be such a troubling development. Of course they are human, that's what makes it so sick. If you portray them as robots they stop being relevant to any of us. Who cares about robots? The fact is that we are all humans and that suicide bombers are starting to appear everwere and each and every one of them is a human being even though very few of them are occupied Palestinians. So if this movie does portray them as human, then it's a good movie. It is a troubleing movie because these are troubleing times. Also, it doesn't make sense to attack a Palestinian for making a pro-Palestinian movie. Attack Spielberg for not making a pro-Israeli movie instead. I think that's debateble though. Spielberg showed Mossad agents having doubts. If only Islamic extremists would have some doubts too. But I guess the Palestinians are in the same phase of absolute certainty that Israeli's were in after the 6 day war. We got over it, will they? It is up to Palestinians and Jews to decide if we exist or not. Even if there was no Palestinian nation a 100 years ago this does not change the fact that there is one now. Sure it might have been Arab propaganda, but the propaganda responded to something. A something called the Jews. As a matter of fact, the Zionists are the parents of the Palestinian national movement. And the Palestinian national movement? It has rescued the Jews. Thanks to the two Palestinian uprising they have saved Israel from becoming a bi-national state. We have much to be grateful about. It is thanks to radical Islam that we could not annex Judea, Samaria and Gaza and thus turn Israel into either a bi-national or an apartheid state. One day it will be thanks to radical Islam that Jewish independance in the land of Israel will be accepted as the natural order of things. It is the Koran itself which makes this claim, not me. It is the Koran which tells us about Jewish Temples in Jerusalem and why they were destroyed: http://www.usc.edu/dept/MSA/quran/017.qmt.html We gave Moses the Book, and made it a Guide to the Children of Israel. And We gave (Clear) Warning to the Children of Israel in the Book, that twice would they do mischief on the earth and be elated with mighty arrogance (and twice would they be punished)! When the first of the warnings came to pass, We sent against you Our servants given to terrible warfare: They entered the very inmost parts of your homes; and it was a warning (completely) fulfilled. Then did We grant you the Return as against them: We gave you increase in resources and sons, and made you the more numerous in man-power. If ye did well, ye did well for yourselves; if ye did evil, (ye did it) against yourselves. So when the second of the warnings came to pass, (We permitted your enemies) to disfigure your faces, and to enter your Temple as they had entered it before, and to visit with destruction all that fell into their power.
28. And they say We own Hollywood
Robert Goldman ,   cooper city Florida   (01.19.06)
Here is proof we don't! we do not own it we do not control it as you can clearly see why. A film glorifying terrorists has won a prize. Now maybe that old argument about US controlling the media will die.
29. Thought you were just a suck-up
Omar ,   New York   (01.19.06)
When you first started writing, I thought you were going to be a sell-out, Uncle Tom. Your humor seemed intended to make Israelis and Jews like you. But I see you are not afraid to write about issues that might offend that readership. Just read the emails. When you suck-up, they love you. When you tell it like it is by including even "minor" criticism of Israel, they howl and attack and denounce. You bring them out of the woodwork. Okay, I don't agree with all you write. But at least I enjoy some of the columns. Omar
30. To JK
Gil ,   Tel Aviv   (01.19.06)
Firstly, the article is 100% right about the terrorist threat and lull in violence from the Rafah border crossing and Gaza. That said, a) i dont think they will grant permission and as I understand it, have not agreed to grant free passage between gaza and the west bank, so i dont see these terrorists being able to get out of gaza. b) when the storm does arive (im sure it will perfectly on time within 2 weeks after the pal elections), i can imagine a huge response operation by Israel in gaza much like we saw in Jenin back in 2003. Many dead on their side, we'll lose some too. For sure, its already being planned now. Concerning Iran, in all reality can you believe that if Israel did attack that they would leave Hizbollah to fire those weopons into Israel?? Come on JK, we will see a huge operation in Lebanon with massive bombing of those locations where Hzbollah are. A hit on Iran could not be done without Lebanon being taken care of at the same time.
