You are a poor excuse for a human being let alone a Jew. To say you would like to go to Israel but you don;t like those religious Jews. Get this--Israel is a Jewish country and of course there will be those who believe in Judaism there. Where do you expect them to go? It is also a democracy so I'm sure if yu are halachatly Jewiish you would be welcomed and allowed to live there. A reader wrote me a note which made a good point. I should have also included in the column this view, which I believe strongly. Abu-Assad should have also strongly denounced suicide bombing. But not doing so, he left the impression that he supports it which plays into the criticism of his film. Suicide bombing is the most morally reprehensible act of violence I know. It is unjustified and is driven by a vicious form of hatred, not by a desire for independence. During my trip through Palestine in October 2004, I spoke to the students at most of the major Palestinian universities and I found that the vast majority agreed with me when I denounced suicide bombings there and said that suicide bombings are not martyrdom operations but a formula for the self-destruction of what is left of Palestine. Only a few students disagreed with me but the majority supported that publicly. That leads me to believe that the majority of Palestinians do not support suicide bombings, but emotion prevents them, wrongly, from speaking out against it more. They should. I have not seen Abu-Assad's film and may not, for no other reason except I hate sub-titled English films. They're are annoying (a feeling shared by the majority of Americans).
