1. very good article
Miro ILIAS ,   Strasbourg, France   (04.23.06)
Excellent commentary, Mr. Ronen ! Thank you very much a have a nice Sunday.
2. Very good analysis and prognosis
Judith ,   Haifa   (04.23.06)
History is repeating itself, and most people are acting like ostriches. Yank your heads out of the sand stupid west. No one has ever tamed mad extremists!
3. Cry Wolf
Jeff ,   Australia   (04.23.06)
The same guys said the same things in Iraq and almost all turned out to be wrong ... look at the mess we are in ... Conned once, shame on you. Conned twice, shame on us ... No more unilaterals, no war for oil ... no war for Israel ...
4. The world should not let it happen again
Caroline ,   Israel   (04.23.06)
5. To Jeff
(04.23.06)
When Idonesia invades australia and kicks your butts. And then you cry for British and American help, I hope you do realise that with a nuclear Iran, Britain is powerless because it could be nuked, because Iran wants to stop 'imperiialists' from interfering with the Indonesian Jihad. I hope you'll enjoy living under Javanese rule.
6. #3
Ram ,   London   (04.23.06)
Israel does not need anyone to fight for her. It did not need anyone else's help in winning all its wars. And you are right, it is not worth going to war for oil. However, if you think that by sticking your head in the sand, appeasing those who wish to create a turmoil in the world or even siding with them will give you stability or security, think again. This is not just about Israel. For you to qualify as opposer to the war on terrorism and rogue states you have to agree with their ideals. Then you became the enemy.
7. Israel Hasn't Learned Either
Yishai Kohen ,   YeShA, Israel   (04.23.06)
Thousands of dead and wounded later, Israel hasn't learned a thing. Giving OUR land to terrorists only brings bloodshed and war- NOT peace. What we SHOULD be doing now is formally cancelling Oslo and going back to the status quo ante; sending the terrorists back to Tunis (minus those with blood on their hands) and taking back OUR land.
8. Bloody Good Analysis
John ,   NZ   (04.23.06)
9. to #5
John ,   NZ   (04.23.06)
Indon with a population of 207 mil. compared to Oz of 20 mil, they don't need to conquer. Just walk right in. Jeff probably confused between oil and nuclear power.
10. Straw
yakov shani ,   afula   (04.23.06)
Straw is a bumbling idiot and I can assure you that I have written to him in the past, a personal letter to his office at the Houses of Parliament to tell him so, so I have no problem with repeating it here. He is a man who lives up to his name, exactly to the letter, spineless, and as STRAW he will bend in the wind. He is also a loyal adherent to the blind Chamberlain who went in search of peace and got war instead. It is so sad that people refuse to learn.
11. It's the appeasers who want the oil - reply to Jeff
Larry ,   Eastbourne, UK   (04.23.06)
The comments in 3 above - "no war for Israel... no war for oil" - strike me as absurd. It's actually the appeasers of the Arab and Muslim terrorist regimes who want the oil. Why otherwise would they appease - certainly not on any grounds of principle. Although personally I don't particularly agree with the war in Iraq, I've always thought the primarily far-left "anti-war" protesters in Britain (and no doubt elsewhere) were hypocrites for this reason. And non-left wing Arabists have always been appeasers too.
12. comparison.
jessie ,   norway   (04.23.06)
Hitler didn't have nuclear - BOMB. Mamud A.will soon have one,but Russia and China ONLY have the greed for oil.their desire is to control the energy market. there should be more concern now,but this article are closer to the truth.the same "solution" are present today. the world's way of solving a problem,is to create a larger one,for the future. this is a very good article !
13. # 3
Marc ,   EU   (04.23.06)
one day it could mean; no war for Australia!
14. So ... do we kill a million Iranians ... just to feel safe
Jeff ,   Australia   (04.23.06)
No. I am willing to take the risk of living under Javanese rule, the probablity of which is is miniscule. The Indonesians could not control E.Timor, let alone Australia. But I am not willing to be part of a coalition that would destroy the lives of over a million Iranians, most of them innocent. http://www.progressive.org/mag_wx041106) If Israel wants to feel safe, It has two options: 1. Fight an all out war with the Islamic world 2. Make a just peace with the Arabs. 1967 borders, no ifs or buts. Cheers ...
15. # 14
yakov shani ,   afula   (04.23.06)
You are very naive and show absolutely no understanding of human nature, the world today or the nature of the present conflict between the West( that means you) and Islam. I do not mean to be abusive to you but if you think that Australia etc. are out of bounds for the forces of evil then you are grossly mistaken. This conflict has exactly zero relevance to Israel and the so called occupied territories or this particular ongoing affair, which in the eyes of our( that means your) adversaries is a minor regional squirmish. If you believe that the solution to the Israel Arab conflict will bring a global solution to the Islamic problem you are not only mistaken, but, oh boy !!! that is when your problems( Aus.) will start.
16. those 1967 boders, Jeff
Steve G ,   USA   (04.23.06)
In 1966, not one Arab country recognized the '1967 borders' to the extent that they massed armies to conquer Israel. I would hardly consider them to be an absolute solution for a two state agreement. The problem is the Arabs seem to want to return to the 1565 borders with politics to match.
17. To Jeff
Ehud ,   Tel Aviv   (04.23.06)
The problem, Jeff, is that you are not only willing to bravely take the risk of the Javanese threat on Australia, but also of the Iranian threat on Israel
18. Jeff Australia
yakov shani ,   afula   (04.23.06)
I do not want to kill a million Iranians or a million anybody else. I do not want war, the same as you but you must understand two things. The first, there are people and forces in this world at work who do not believe in " live and let live " but rather in " we live, you die ".This is not stupid rhetoric, this is a fact of life. The second. A million Iranians or even 70 million Iranians are not innocent because a people deserve exactly the leaders they have, whether they are elected or appointed or self appointed, ultimately the leadership is a function of the people and the people are responsible. 80 million Germans were responsible for Hitler and paid the price. War or no war 300 million Russians were responsible for Lenin,Stalin and Trotski and they paid a terrible price for over 70 years. If people have leaders who lead them to the slaughter house it is their fault and their fault alone. The name of the game in this world is and always has been survival.
19. very good and logic article
John   (04.23.06)
I hope that someone from the regime will read and understand this article.
20. To Jeff in Australia
Josh ,   Jerusalem   (04.23.06)
I know you have good intentions and that you are a good person, but I'm sorry, you are very naive. Other people in this world think differently than you, have different goals and hopes than you, have different morals than you, and have different ideologies than you. Just as you probably believe very strongly in freedom and democracy, many Muslims, and I stress the word many, believe much stronger than you in death, war and annihilation of every non-Muslim in the world (Jihad). The conflict is not between Hamas and the IDF, or Hizballah and Israel, or the Palestinians and the settlers. The conflict is between the western world and radical Islam. Until you fully understand this, you can not realize the threat posed on the lives of free and democratic people like yourself. Please check these out and see for yourself what is going on in the world. I hope it will open your eyes. http://www.shoebat.com http://www.pmw.org.il http://www.memri.org http://www.danielpipes.org http://www.faithfreedom.org http://www.terrorism-info.org.il/engsite/home/default.asp
21. To #14: so you are a Progressist
Francois ,   Paris   (04.24.06)
During WW2, most French treators were progressists either Socialists or Commies. Most modern treators are Leftists, it must not surprised anybody. Interestingly, these French treators were using the same rethoric that you are using: no war for the Jews, we want to be at peace with Germany, we must appease Germans and collaborate with them, if we give an answer to the legitimate German grievances they will become moderate, ... No Progressists, no terror.
22. Jeff Australia
yakov shani ,   afula   (04.24.06)
I am going to put this very succinctly for you. We in Israel are fighting a war that we will win and it will prevent you from fighting a war in the future. This is not a complaint aimed at you, just a fact. Please try and understand this.
23. yakov shani use the same rethoric than Al Quaeda !
David   (04.24.06)
Yakov Shani on Ynet : "A million Iranians or even 70 million Iranians are not innocent because a people deserve exactly the leaders they have...." Ben Laden on Al Jazeera : "The blockade which the West is imposing on the government of Hamas proves that there is a Zionist crusader war on Islam," said the speaker on the tape broadcast by Al-Jazeera. "I say that this war is the joint responsibility of the people and the governments. While the war continues, the people renew their allegiance to their rulers and politicians and continue to send their sons to our countries to fight us." Killing just one iranian will not contribute one minute to "the security of the citizens of the state of Israel."
24. Very telling statement was from ...
Ron ,   LA   (04.24.06)
... our friend French President Jacques Schmuck who said: "War is always the admission of defeat, and is always the worst of solutions. And hence everything must be done to avoid it." Foreign Minister Damn- neck de Villepin said: "Nothing justifies envisaging military action." George Orwell sez: “War is peace. Freedom is slavery. Ignorance is strength.” Ron sez: Time passes, but some things remain the same. If people ( in this case nations) are morons, it usually lasts for a long time.
25. The lessons learned
Sergei ,   Russia   (04.24.06)
It is a futile attempt to put Nazi Germany and Iran on the same page. Iran's leadership's prediction of Israel annihilation is nothing more than fast-food prepared for dometic consumption. You can't launch an unconventional war on spinned PR, and there are mechanism being put in place that will prevent this scenario.
26. David # 23
yakov shani ,   afula   (04.24.06)
Your comment is not really worthy of a response. What BL said is indeed rhetoric, suggesting that the people are behind their governments in advocating global war. What I said is pure political science. I did not say that the people are necessarily behind their government. In any event and in all circumstances and in any country in the world the leaders are a function of the people and it is up to them, the people, to use any method available to them to change those leaders if they present a danger to the future or existence of the people and state. It follows from this that in the end they are responsible for their own well being. A man's fate is in his own hands and that of his country is in the hand's of the populice. No rhetoric here, no incitement, just plain reason.
27. Iran must be stopped. ASAP.
Shalom Freedman ,   Jerusalem Israel   (04.24.06)
This article is not simply a good one, but an important and urgent one. Iran is not jokiing. They are on their way to nuclear weapons. One of their major goals is destroying Israel. They must be stopped as soon as possible.
28. #25 and some others....
DR ,   Florida, USA   (04.24.06)
I think you guys are missing the big picture here. This is not about Israel and Iran or the Palestinians. This is about the whole world. Islam in many ways, shapes and forms has opened a global war on Jews and the west. The are terrorists from so many countries now and guess what, we have to fight them all. It started in NYC, then London, Madrid Tel-Aviv....do you people not understand what is happening? Are you blinded by your good intentions? We need to wake up, beofre this becomes a much bigger problem. Extreme Islam has a goal...to kill all infedels and I believe they are trying their hardest to achieve that goal.

If we do not address the Iranian nuclear issue, the whole ME region will soon be tinderbox waiting for a major terrorist attack to ignite it.
