1. Sweden has an Israel problem
Joel ,   NY USA   (04.27.06)
The Swedes have been consistently hostile towards the Jewish State despite the fact that Sweden itself has a huge problem with its growing Muslim minority which refuses to assimilate. The city of Malmo (the third largest city in Sweden) has been so overrun by Muslim criminals that in many areas the police refuse to patrol. Swedish women have been attacked and raped by Muslim gangs. Yet Swedish politicians including the murdered foreign minister Ana Lindh choose to close their eyes and attack Israel.

5. No other explanation is possible
Sigfried S. Kuhn ,   Aberdeen   (04.27.06)
Now let me get this straight. Hamas, a racist, Jew-hating terrorist group is elected to form the Palestinian Govt. Hamas rejects the right of Israel to exist and praised the massacre of innocent civilians in Tel Aviv by a muslim suicide bomber. In addition, Iran threatens to wipe Israel off the map, denies the Holocaust, calls for the ethnic cleansing of Jews from Israel to Europe, and is supporting terrorist groups such as Hezbollah and Hamas. In contrast, Israel unilaterally withdraws from Gaza and is immediatly targeted by Kassam rockets fired at Israeli citizens. Israel also does not order a retaliatory strike against the demons who slaughtered the Tel Aviv civilians. Unbelievably Sweden accuses Israel of not doing enough to achieve peace, agrees to meet with Hamas, and taking a page out of the nazi laws forbidding German cooperation with Jews, refuses to participate in military exercises with Jewish Israel. Coming on the heels of revelations about Sweden's close cooperation with the nazis, there is only one possible reason for Sweden's behavior and we all know that it is antisemitism. Israel should withdraw its ambassador from Sweden and order the Swedish ambassador home.

speechless. Sweden, wake up and throw out your socialist cabal from power. What is wrong with you?? The swedish government lives in another dimension. There can be no other explanation.
8. We're not giving hamas entry permits
Intedi nensak ,   Stockholm, Sweden   (04.27.06)
First i'd like to apologize for my retarded goverment, they're idiots. But we are not giving entry permits to hamas representatives.. that's a lie. Norway is giving them entry permits, and under EU rules they get free access to move all over the union if they get a permit in one EU or EES country. Unlike Norway, our goverment has refused to send representatives to meet with the hamas though. It's really not our fault this time, but i'd like to see our goverment do the right thing for once and somehow find a way to block entry for the terror group hamas.
9. not fair
Intedi nensak ,   Stockholm, Sweden   (04.27.06)
It's not fair to bash Sweden like this like many people on ynet does without knowing about the political situation in Sweden. The decision to withdraw from this exercise was made because of Miljöpartiet and Vänsterpartiet (two very leftist parties) in the goverment. Together they only have like 10% of the votes. Unfortunatly they're in the ruling coalition, and they often blackmail the goverment to do what they want, and if not they threaten to destabilize the goverment... the fact is that they only represent a tiny part of the population here. The majority of us is still on the side of democracy. That the media is so anti-israel here is because the middle east section in our biggest news agency is run by an insane holocaust denier and ultra leftist called Stefan Hjertén. Some news papers here actually have already stopped the ties with the news agency in question, TT(Tidningarnas Telegrambyrå).
10. Sweden declares war on Israel
Ilya Meyer ,   Gothenburg, Sweden   (04.27.06)
Swedish credibility as frail as IKEA furniture 2006 is election year in Sweden. In early April, Swedish Chancellor of Justice Göran Lambertz squashed an investigation into calls from the Stockholm Grand Mosque to “kill the Jews”. In his opinion, such statements should be seen against the background of the conflict in the Middle East, rendering them entirely permissible. Later the same month Minister of Justice Thomas Bodström declined to withdraw an entry visa to Hamas leader Salah Muhammad al-Bardawil or to have him arrested upon entry – even though Sweden is a signatory to the pan-European decision to brand Hamas a terrorist organisation. Bardawil and his associates will be visiting Sweden in early May under the full protection of the Swedish authorities. And now Cabinet Secretary Hans Dahlgren announced that Sweden has withdrawn from a European peacekeeping exercise. The explanation: “the participation of the Israeli Air Force has changed the prerequisites of the exercise.” Swedish Defense Minister Leni Björklund goes further: Sweden pulled out because Israel is a state “that does not participate in international peacekeeping missions” – in other words, if you’re not already in the club you have no right to try and lend a helping hand. Of course, the Defense Minister is entirely wrong – nothing unusual in Swedish diplomatic circles – because Israel sent a peacekeeping force of policemen to Fiji in conjunction with that country’s elections. Perhaps accuracy is not the Defense Minister’s strong suit. In an election year when the votes of Sweden’s 400,000 strong Muslim electorate easily outweigh those of the country’s mere 16,000 Jews, the Swedish Social Democratic administration obviously considered it worth the half million or so kronor it has already spent on its 10-month preparations for the joint exercise to drive home its desire to attract more votes. Sweden’s latest in a long line of questionable decisions could scarcely have come at a more indelicate point in time – almost coinciding with Holocaust Remembrance Day in memory of the millions exterminated on an industrial scale in a Europe unwilling to work together to stop tyranny and encourage coexistence and loyalty. Today Sweden is doing what it did sixty years ago – turning its back on those in need and siding with the force it sees as likely to win. This is perhaps the right time to remind ourselves that it was high-quality Swedish ore that powered Nazi Germany’s war machine. It is perhaps also the right time for people of conscience to vote with their wallets and give Sweden’s IKEA, Volvo and Saab a wide berth. There is no Swedish product that cannot be replaced with an alternative from a democracy with moral values.
11. Israel not doing anything to achieve peace???
Jenya ,   Israel   (04.27.06)
Now how the hell did they come to this conclusion? and im not talking only about the state in the middle east, but Israel is the country that did, does and probably will do everything in her power (which is a lote more then most of the countries trying to help peace) to keep the fucking peace in the world. Which experts stayed in Iran (a country calling for the annihilation of the state of Israel) for long weeks participating in the rescue of thousands of Iranians after the earthquake that took place? which country is the first to offer aid and actually is doing something in case of somekind of disaster in any shithole on this planet? only a few days ago i saw a tv program about a delegation of Israeli doctors coming to some place in south america to do surgeons to a small indian tribe where kids were born with some kind of deficiency and no one was willing to help them? So sweden, stop the crap and snap back to reality...
12. Reasons to hate Ikea
danishpastry   (04.27.06)
Their fake-Swedish model names that are annoying and stupid Their store locations (inevitably inconvenient) Their terribly made furniture composed of veneered pressboard. The lie that their furniture is simple to assemble. Yeah, you try putting together one of those Rakke wardrobes in under four hours. The checkout process is the final straw. IKEA's poor construction. The buggy whip inventory system.
13. swedish joke 1
(04.27.06)
A Swede was in a pub in Finland and a regular customer suggested to him: - "I'll give you $200, if you let me smash ten beer bottles on your head." The Swede thought for a while and finally agreed, partly because of the peer pressure. The Finn smashed the first bottle on the Swede's head, then the second and so on, but he stopped after smashing nine bottles. - "So, when are you going to smash the tenth bottle?," asked the Swede. - "I am not a total idiot," the Finn replied, "then I would have to give you that $200."
14. #9 not fair
Riv ,   Jerusalem   (04.27.06)
You are saying this is only a small minority, so let us just see what the 'majority' has to say about this. If they remain silent they are just as bad! Silence is equally as evil. Sorry for being so curt but we Jews have always been excepted to forgive and forget. It is wearing quite thin. And speaking of tiny parts of a whole population, in raw numbers Jews are but a speck in the entire world population. Time for the silence to end. There are literally millions more of you then one of us. Having said that, nothing much has changed when it comes to speaking out with actual walking the talk when it comes to Jew hate. As I stated in #6 this is bloody, 2006 not the 30's and for sure not hundreds if not thousands of years ago. Honestly, enough is enough. We are becoming quite intolerant of people expecting us to be tolerant of those who hate us.
15. Sweden problem
Francois ,   Paris   (04.27.06)
Swedish morons believe that if you don't share their ideological and silly views, you are against peace. However, they don't even the true meaning of peace. They are calling peacekeeping operations their pathetic and inefficient operations which have never bring peace anywhere. On the contrary, the Swedes never participated to all serious peacekeeping operations, as WW2 or wars against Saddam. If Tsipi Livni had guts, she would expell Sweden ambassador and tell these morons that he will be allowed to come back only when they could prove that their childish ideology is able to bring peace.

I read your explanations. They're expressing probably the reality and sure your opinion. But this is a kind of european democracy in which antisemitic actions are acceptable and has "explanations".I did not not read what are the rest 90% of sweedens(excepting the leftists) doing to protest against such stupid measures.Where is the civil society in such a developed and educated country? How can they accept things that touches insanity, irrationality???My explanations are as simple as that-antisemitism is not dead and is again "fashionable" in europe and acting against Israel is easy -they will not react exploding in public places, etc.I am deeply affected for I always thought of europe nordic states to be more evolved.I WAS WRONG!!!!

Remember when Sweden supplied the Nazi war machine with much needed raw materials and ball bearings-so what's new-the Swedes have always been Neo Nazis, and I hope taht they won't join up with Iran too-come on Iran, don't you need a new Ikea ,a few Volvos, and some thing for your Uranium refining??

DR ,   Florida, USA   (04.27.06)
I think most Israelis and Americans understand that the average person in your country is not anti-Israel, but at the same time, it is the people who choose their leaders and therefore, the leaders represent the majority. What is really not fair is how Israel is treated in the international community. It is, for some reason or another, held to higher moral standards than other countries. Why don't people in your country speak out against your gov't for acting like this??? This is the question you should be asking.

We're not silent. There's a row over this in Sweden too, many people are very angry at our goverment. Polls that have been launched on swedish news websites has shown that most people very much oppose this move by the swedish goverment. I understand very well that Israelis are sensitive after being attacked so much from all directions, but sometimes it goes too far in lashing out at people who don't really deserve it. We're not bad people up here, i hope you can understand that.

Since when are we supposed to care about what a FRENCHMAN has to teach us on antisemitism? solve your own problems before whining at us, kthx. and to Norbert, of course you're not reading anything of how this is discussed in Sweden, you don't know Swedish. if you wanna give it a go then may i suggest svd.se where they have this story on the front page and where you can see some of the 90% voicing their anger.

23. War on Israel?
Jorgen U. Bengtsson ,   Malmoe, Sweden   (04.27.06)
Well, not really. This is about winning the election in September. If Israel-bashing can secure the Moslem vote for the government and the left Israel will be bashed. And yes we sold iron ore to Germany during the second world war but we also sold ball bearing and war material to the allied side and made a lot of good money out of others misery , not to mention that we saved our own skin. Please give us due credit. We traded with both sides. Not specially heroical or moral, that is for certain. It would not be wrong to use words as selfish, greedy and cowardly. But are we Swedes as a nation more evil than others? Maybe? May those with clean hands and hearts judge us.

I never stated everyone is silent. However I find there is too much silence simply because this and other similar things are happening right now in 2006. Another thing, if the majority were not silent this would not be happening. This discussion would be moot. What it boils down to is more are silent than not. And there lies the rub. While the world is bending over backwards to be politically correct with the RoP seems it is not on the agenda to be so with Jews. That in and of itself speaks quite loudly, wouldn't you say? .....and if it appears people like myself are not understanding or tolerant of this rubbish then so be it. Truly, we are not painting this with too broad of a brush and we are indeed not including everyone in our anger and disappointment. Yet it is high time for everyone else to have broad shoulders and turn the preverbal 'other cheek.' It is assumed we will take the high road no matter how we get beat up. Please try for a moment to understand this forum is not meant to beat up the entire populace of Sweden but we do have the right to be angry just the same. (broad shoulders now. turn the cheek while taking the high road, just this one time.)

Swedish Chancellor of Justice: Muslim calls for "Death to Jews" are just part of the debate on the Middle East Earlier this year Swedish Chancellor of Justice Mr Göran Lambertz decided to discontinue his department's pre-trial investigation into the Grand Mosque of Stockholm, where audio cassettes with highly inflammatory anti-Semitic content were being sold. After Swedish radio programmer Dagens Eko unveiled the contents of the cassettes in November 2005, a charge of racial incitement was filed with the police against the Stockholm mosque. The Swedish Chancellor of Justice responded by closing the pre-trial investigation on the grounds that "the lecture did admittedly feature statements that are highly degrading to Jews (among other things, they are consistently referred to as the brothers of apes and pigs)" but pointing out that such statements "should be judged differently - and therefore be regarded as permissible - because they were used by one side in an ongoing and far-reaching conflict where calls to arms and insults are part of the everyday climate in the rhetoric that surrounds this conflict". http://www.upprop.net/upprop_eng.php
