Israel has far more intellectual achievements per 1000 citizens, and remember these achievements come only from the Jews, so only 3/4 of the population really counts. A story: a couple of years ago I visited London, mostly because it was a convenient base for travel elsewhere in Europe. Of course I visited the manificent British Museum, where everything has been stolen from some other culture. By the way, the Greeks display what little they have of the Parthenon facade in a much more effective way than the Brits. Also, the Greeks know not to sandblast the remains of the original paint. But I digress. So, I decided to see some Shakespeare, having read most everything he has done. Good luck! I ultimately saw a rather uninspired performance at the Barbizon, far out of the way of London nightlife. Signficantly, the audience was quite old. "Cool Britannia" is also impoverished. I couldn't believe how many young people, who were clearly not bums, asked me for money. The breakfasts are the most unpleasant I have ever had. The dreadful canned, stewed tomotoes, the ghastly "bacon," the canned, flavorless beans. Ugh! And the fish and chips are STILL fried. (This is ok, though, because many pubs at least can do this right. NEVER get anything requiring deftness in the kitchen.)

No boycott of Iran, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Syria, etc. All human rights violaters of the worst kind and welcomed to British Academia with open arms. Believe me, they need us more than we need them. Purely their loss.

The main problem and the reason that boycotting Israeli Academics is that they want to only boycott Israeli Academics. If they had credibility they would boycott Academics from other places where there is conflict. As for your comments on Apartheid Israeli Arabs have more rights and better standard of living than Arabs in their own countries. As for the Palestinians they had a higher standard of living than most Arabs in their own countries until they decided to start a War when offered everything they said they wanted. This boycott, is nothing more that a way to demonize Isrel and Jews. I don't need to look in the mirror to see the truth. That's why there are history books. The truth is that for 2000 years the Jews have been called demons, blood-drinkers, animals and bacteria by dozens of world leaders and religious clerics. These are blanket statements that dehumanize an entire race/religion on the basis of nothing but hatred. We have been persecuted in most parts of the world and exterminated like vermin because of our faith and blood. This is a fact that can't be denied. for 450 years 99% of the wealth in England was in the hands of !% of the population, the last 150 years of which was after the French Revolution. This fact says precious little for the quality of the substance contained in the cranial cavity of the people in this so called first world country. To this fact I shall add my own opinion. 99% of the present population have between their two ears 3 basic thoughts, football, beer and sex. The 1% that extends its thoughts beyond these limits is running the country, politically, academically and industrially. If this situation continues, which it will, it will take less than 450 for England to become a third world country. It is well on its way now. I have been thinking about this a lot in recent years. It was a terrifying and life-altering experience for me, especially when I got home to find that my neighbours were raving about the event as 'putting the Jews and Americans in their place at last.'
