You dont know how good it is to know that you have a place to go to if things get bad, you dont understand. It wouldn't suprise me if the Israeli hard left had a lower than average IQ. Who, after all, could be a full-fledged leftist after Oslo? I think Yair seems a bit slow even for a leftist. What strikes me, though, is how arrogant he is. He feels free to write a column that would be mediocre even for someone in a permanent vegetative state. This is what the powerful tend to do. His supporters (insofar as they are not just Yair himself, as most of are, I'm sure) are of the same caliber, and they predictably chime in and congratulate him without explaining why this piece of trash is worthy of praise. A competitive market for journalism just couldn't produce Yair as a columnist for Ynet, any more than it could produce Secular Sabra as one. He is here via his connections, just as many other responders have said here.

Hananel has every right to be pissed off about his family being kicked out of their home. He has every right to protest and make his view known. However he was being honored as soldier and representing his Brigade and has a duty to represent them honorably. While his obligation may be only to salute and not to shake hands it is very disrespectful not to shake someone's hand when offered and dishonarble not to shake the hand of your military superior. As a representitive of his Brigade he dishonered them not to accept the hand of their military superior and make a political statement at their expence. Therefore the Brigade leadership who selected him for the Honor in the first place removes him because he dishonered his brigade they have every right as well. It should be a very important lesson to seperate between military and politics for Israel to survive.

Kyle thanks for posting the link to that other Lapid article. As someone who lives outside Israel and is unfamiliar with Yair Lapid, this has given me an even greater insight into this guy's mindset. Your average 12 year old would probably have a higher IQ than Lapid.

Last I heard, person leading the whole story was Avishai Raviv. He is not hilltop youth... Let me think... A shabak provocateur... And he was not sentenced, because the court accepted his claim that he was only following orders. Oooopsie. Boy am I amazed ;-)

The name calling in this article reminds me of the name calling during 3rd grade recess. Yair Lapid should be sidelined like Meretz. Is Yair popular in Israel? I am right wing but for convergence (best idea out of all the horrible ones, but still not a great one). However, lefties like Yair REALLY need to wake up. If they don't want to live in Jewish Israel, well slap on a kaffiyeh and go live on the other side of the fence. I have had it up to here with leftists both in the US and in Israel trying.

YOur reply was excellent and the only thing I have to add is that the "spoiled settler brats" spent this past summer vacation showing their tremendous love for the land of Israel by helping the soon to be expelled citizens in Gush Katif and northern Shomron. These teenagers ran day camps, cleaned houses and did anything and everything that they could to help ease the trauma for the families. I think the really "spoiled brats" are those who spent the summer in the malls, beaches and pubs...
