31. #29 Shai, this ignorant American is...
Ron ,   LA   (06.17.06)
... a veteran IDF officer who was injured in Lebanon war fighting Syrians and PLO “for your country.” This person also observed “Palestinians” both in Lebanon and in West Bank during his service. I met many Palestinians here in US also, mostly very nice people by the way. This person had Palestinian friends during his studies in Israel. They all agree with the opinion of #18. I normally don’t like to brag about my service, since I believe it was an honor and a privilege of any citizen to serve his country, but since you mentioned it... I would do the same for America. My injury BTW was NOT in the head area, so I hope I can still think clearly, unlike some leftists on the talkback.

Alex Prescott ,   Southsea, Hampshire   (06.17.06)
Arabs also invented win-win algorithm: 1. Find a point where you disagree (it actually doesn’t matter 45 vs. 55 because “they outnumbered Jews 2-to-1.If 45/55 doesn’t work – increase demand) 2. start the war; 3. if win you have 100% 4. If loose (and have 72/28 partition) go to 1.
33. Hey Ron -
Edan ,   Beer Sheva   (06.17.06)
British mandate? Are you trying to tell me that the British reffered to the jews as "Palestinians"...?..So I guess the Balfour Declaration (have you heard of that?) states that the "Palestinians" have a right to their own homeland in what is now Israel...right?? If you yourself would reread your own comment # 28 ...go ahead look it over..I'll wait.... So what do you call the arabs living in Gaza and the West Bank...? Gazans and West Bankers?? You go ahead and keep calling them that.... "in case you still not fluent in Hebrew"... Don't worry buddy, I'm definitely more fluent than you in both Hebrew AND English
34. #33 Edan
Ron ,   LA   (06.17.06)
Look, what I am saying is simple: Prior to the establishment of Israel, Jews identified themselves as Palestinian Jews. Arabs NEVER identified themselves as Palestinian Arabs, but just Arabs or South Syrians. More precisely in terms of clan loyalty, not nation. This is the fact.Palestinian nationalism is a recent phenomenon. I wish they were. Real people have their own culture and want true independence. Palestinians want Israel destruction, not true independence. This is their and our tragedy. Palestinians want to live with Jews; unfortunately, this is why they want to return to Israel, not to West Bank. I once asked my fellow Arab student in Beer Sheva University if he would go to live in Palestinian State, once they have one. He looked at me as if I am crazy and plainly said no. They want to live with Jews for the same reason Mexicans want to live in America and Turks want to live in Germany. What is not clear? People simply want to go where they see benefits. People vote with their legs, this is a fact.
35. humm maths hey?
Yisraeli   (06.18.06)
3 Buddist men go into a motel in Jerusalem. The Jewish man behind the desk said the room is $30 so each man paid $10 and went to the room. A while later the Jewish man behind the desk realised the room was only $25 so he sent the bellboy (Balastinian) to the 3 guy's room with $5. On the way the Balastinian bellboy couldn't figure out how to split $5 evenly between 3 men, so he gave each man $1 and kept the other $2 for himself. (typical) This meant that the men each paid $9 for the room, which is a total of $27, add the $2 that the bellboy kept = $29. Where is the other dollar? Hmmm..... Answer: Its dem bloody zionists of course they steal everything, they steal our land they even steal the invisible 1 dollar.......... hehe
36. s = 1967 + 3% + JEJ - ROR
Yehuda ,   USA   (06.18.06)
where: s = solution 1967 - we all know 3% = security deposit of West Bank JEJ = Jewish parts of East Jerusalem ROR = Right of Return We cannot emulate this solution to see if it works. The only way to test it is to do it. It may fail, but will we be worse off if it does?
37. An example, Edan
Ron ,   LA   (06.17.06)
In LA, you see many Mexican flags nowadays. World cup, you know. Those Mexicans Like their Spanish, like their Mariachi and Sinco de Mayo. They see themselves Mexicans who live in America. They even claim that California is really theirs. I am here not to dispute this, but to illustrate the point. The point is with all this nationalism and Mexican pride they still want to live in America and not Mexico, because America is GOOD. This is the reason Palestinians want to live with Jews, because they know where is better. They are not crazy as some leftists. They don’t respect those leftists, but use them. Useful idiots, you know... The main difference of course Mexicans are not blowing themselves up, they are civilized people, Catholics, hard workers, nor welfare abusers like Palestinians.
38. the empty/full glass analogy?!
Joy Springreen   (06.17.06)
Dude, c'mon, that material is soooooooooooooooooo stale. its not what the palestinian cause was about that causes the figures to be so lopsided, its the fact that the palestinian cause was used as a tool in so much of the pan-arabist dialogue that the palestinians have always been encouraged more to resist than co-exist. But hey its all part of the paradox of the human condition. "I Love Black People!!" Black to mean; Jew/muslim/christian/israeli/palestinian/arab/druze/copt/circassian/whatever. Delete and apply as appropriate.
40. Thanks Julio ... #4
Ray Hanania ,   Chicago, IL USA   (06.18.06)
Actually, the real problem with Camp David was that Barak and Arafat NEVER sat down and negotiated face-to-face. They did it by whispers and second hand messeging ... "offers" were supposedly "made," but no one wanted to put it down on paper. The counter criticism to the Palestinians argument that they should have countered with an offer would not work. They did actually counter, saying through intyermediaries that they wanted the ROR, East Jerusalem and a 1 inch for 1 inch land swap (not the 9 inches fo 1 inch swap that Barak offered) We can always find reasons to blame someone else if we want, but clearly the problem falls on BOTH sides. Arafat did not like the fact that Barak would not negotiate with him to his face and suspected Barak of conspiring with Clinton. That was a major negotiating error on his part. But there never was an offer on paper. I read whatzhiznames thick book about it :) PS ... I tried but too late to add a line int he column about Palestinian "math." They started with 650,000 of so refugees and increased the numbers rather quickly through "multiplication" :) Thanks Ray hanania www.hanania.com
41. And thanks also to Jewlicious.com
Ray Hanania ,   Chicago, IL USA   (06.18.06)
Thanks TM We may not agree with each other, and some may not even like my views. But I do very much respect you and your point that as a Palestinian all I can do is write a Palestinian perspective. I'm not Jewish. I can only do my best to define a moderate voice on my side ... even if we put a moderate Palestinian and a moderate Israeli together int he same room, I'll bet they will have much to disagree about. But, I wonder if we can agree that we won't see our histories ever being the same, just parallel, and instead of always arguing about the past, see if we can redefine the future. There are a lot of people who read this column and say thanks, not because they agree with me but because this is an effort at talking to each other. To me, and I know many others, that is important. Thanks, respectfully Ray Hanania www.hanania.com
42. To Shai the Idiot
Dudu ,   Kfar Sava   (06.18.06)
There was also a Nazi Germany and there was also once a Soviet Union . These too were once 'realities". However, these were fictional realities that history swept aside. The same will happen to the PLO-nation. You may have served in Yesha but you are an idiot.
43. 2&3 can do math very well.
Joy Springreen   (06.18.06)
44. Arabs and science
Yerushalmi ,   jerusalem   (06.18.06)
Can someone give me one example of a arab philosopher, scientist, or what ever.. All the famous "arab" philosophers were persian, kurdish, turkish, berber, etc. I can't think of one single arab. I am not being racist here, I am trying not to be. Please help me not being racist. Give me just one example, just one arab, and I will be happy. Thanks.
45. Persians btw are NOT arabs....
(06.18.06)
....and the greeks and romans were the first ones to systemize calculus (which is actually latin if you must know) geometry is a greek word too so is trigonometry arabs invented a few things but math was definitely not one of them. they studied greek classics and kept them alive while europeans were swinging clubs and saying polite things like 'ooga wana shag baby?'

TM ,   Jewlicious.com   (06.18.06)
Ray, I agree whole-heartedly with everything you've written in the quotation below. Don't let the personal attacks get to you. Ultimately, there are many more people in the "middle," and when you write, even if there is disagreement with the particulars of your article (I certainly voiced mine ;-) ), the spirit in which it is written is positve and will always remain important when it comes to dialogue. Any final compromise will be (extremely) hard for both sides, but understanding and humanizing the other, even through debates such as your article might prompt, will be how we get there....hopefully soon. Peace. "But, I wonder if we can agree that we won't see our histories ever being the same, just parallel, and instead of always arguing about the past, see if we can redefine the future. There are a lot of people who read this column and say thanks, not because they agree with me but because this is an effort at talking to each other. 47. Ron - Wrong again!
Edan ,   Beer Sheva   (06.18.06)
I have a good friend who is a 5th generation Israeli and one who is a 10th (thats right 10th!). I will ask them if their families were ever reffered to as "PAlestinian jews" even though I know this is plain BS.. And the arabs here living in Gaza - what did they call themselves ..? Gazans ? South syrians ? North Egyptians? I don't think so..Put this ridiculous argument to rest already... It is just plain stupid. Notice how #9 has nothing to say to me.... And your racism towards Mexicans is also obvious. I grew up in L.A. (North Hollywood). Did you know that all of California + Oregon was all Mexico once..?? Mexicans are not parralel to Palestinians - I'm just not buying this... Once again you are full of crap and you are pulling arguments out of your ass because really--- your argument has no legs to stand on....
48. it is not jabr
bissah jaber ,   jerusalem   (06.18.06)
i like math too much mainly the jabr sometimes in the school i reached the final equation better than the teacher which he did it in half a page i did it in two lines ...jabr means the equation to take from this side to that side to reach finaly to the equation ...ray the israili arab conflect here in palastin was not jabr it was the story of the cheeze and the monkey ..do you know it ...the monkey cut the cheeze to two pieces one is bigger he eat from it the second is the bigger .eat from it the first become bigger ,,and so on he eat all the cheeze it is not jabr it is like this story
49. Edan you are too busy to be right instead of...
Ron ,   LA   (06.18.06)
...reading my posts carefully. Nowhere in my posts I expressed racism towards Mexicans. Reread slowly. I suggested you to read books, not running to your friends with questions. You only live in Israel for couple of years. Relax kid. I don't know if you are an exchange student or high school kid in Israel, but I find your posts rather childish. I am not here to argue with you, I allow you to be right as much as you want if this is what you ego needs.
50. To wRONg from L.A.-
Edan ,   Beer Sheva   (06.18.06)
Childish..? Thats the best you could come up with...?? Instead of calling you names I refuted your arguments each time... you can't come up with any substantial argument so "childish" is your attack..?? I will let outsiders reading our dialogue decide who is childish... The Mexicans are not parrallel to the Palestinians in any way shape or form. Period. It is childish to compare apples to oranges. Jews were never called Palestinians. Period. It is childish not to admit that you are wrong. And it is very childish to be condescending (not sure you know what that means) to someone who you know nothing about, especially when it is because that someone has proven you wrong twice already.... I am a student, if you must know, 28 years old and I have been in Israel 12 years now (not including the first 4 years of my life). Served in a combat unit...You may have once lived in Israel, but you are far removed from it's present reality. And don't worry, I read plenty of books... Of course you are not here to argue with me- you are here to spread your propoganda... We've all heard it before, though, so do us all a favor and give it a rest...
51. Ray and Jewlicious have whole the discussion between them
Joy Springreen   (06.18.06)
both very articulately and PROGRESSIVEly put. ...the rest... a bit reactionary and often innacurate.
52. Insulting is not answering! #42.
Shai ,   T-A   (06.18.06)
you don't even realize that by insulting me you are showing your violence and your intolerance. Character assassination is the signature of the extreme-right. Only a bunch of extremists deny the obvious, the birth of a palestinian nation since 67. Only ideologues refuse the reality.
53. #52 Shai the key phrase is...
Ron ,   LA   (06.18.06)
"since 67". This is the first time you use is. Here you have a case. I don't agree personally, because the only thing that makes them a "nation" is their hatred of Israel. Take Israel out and there is NO Palestinian "nation". I am frankly as interested as to find out if Angola is a nation or not. This is not important to the world. There is nothing they produced as a nation that worth descussion. You can talk about Arab civilization, Persian civilization, even American civilization, or nation. Palestinians just starting to feel as a nation as you claim, just like Americans during tea riots agaist British. Time will tell if they can develop something unique as a nation. Let's talk in 300, 400 years, Shai. Frankly it is not even relevant anymore for us, since we in Israel long ago eccepted the idea of Palestinian state along Israel. We all have different reasons for this, but nevetheless the fact remains the same. Sharon accepted it, Olmert accepted it so why argue? This argument is old news, move on.
54. Shai, since you know a lot can you tell the ignorant ones...
Ron ,   LA   (06.18.06)
... what the difference between Palestinian and Jordanian? Thanks.
55. Prase from Joy Springreen the "intellectual" worth a lot..
Ron ,   LA   (06.18.06)
56. oh Ron
Joy Springreen   (06.19.06)

57. To Ron, this guy Shai from T-A is ultra smolani don't bother
