31. Now we know why they're importing sniper rifles
Karen R ,   Maryland   (06.22.06)
When is the Israeli government going to do domething about these anarchists? This is a clear threat to the life of the Prime Minister and anyone else who supports him. Now we have a new immigrant from the US who is smuggling in sniper rifles. Having lived through the sniper rampage here in Maryland, I shudder to think what a politically motivated lunatic could do in Israel. Put these people in jail where they belong before we have another tragedy. And it might be a good thing for Mr. Olmert, Mr. Peretz and others to start wearing body armor, if they aren't already. There may be more sniper rifles around the West Bank.
32. Right wing settlers have declared war on the State of Israel
Karen R ,   Maryland   (06.22.06)
What this so-called "rabbi" and his friends have done is declare a civil war against the State of Israel - the very same State that made their settlements possible and still protect them against terrorists. I Googled "State of Judea" and got some very interesting results. There is already a civil war going on - the settlers just haven't started shooting yet. But many of them do intend to try to declare their own "State", and defend it against the IDF, who are the only ones preventing them from being slaughtered by Hamas. Please, put these people in jail. DON'T send them back to the US - we still have enough psychotics here.
33. What is someone who knows supposed to do?
Steve ,   USA   (06.22.06)
B"H On one hand, "Har-Shefi" was thown in Jail for not protesting a dangerous situation. On the other hand, Peace Now is asking that this Rabbi be prosecuted for protesting what he perceives to be a dangerous situation, calling it "suspicions of incitement". This makes it very difficult for Israeli citizens to protect government officials with any knowledge they might have or believe they have. On one hand, if they present that knowledge, they are asked to be investigated for suspicion of incitement. If on the other hand, they hold that knowledge back, they are imprisoned for not making the warning. What kind of expectation is being set for the Israeli public like that? Har-Shefi article: http://www.israelinsider.com/channels/politics/articles/pol_0011.htm Ynet has an update: http://www.ynetnews.com/Ext/Comp/CdaNewsFlash/0,2297,L-3266208_3089,00.html Peace Now: investigate rabbi Wolpe for incitement Peace Now movement asked the Attorney General Menachem Mazuz to initiate an investigation against rabbi Shalom Dov Wolpe for suspicions of incitement. Rabbi Wolpe said about Prime Minister Ehud Olmert: "We saw what the Almighty can do to those who carry out an evacuation, and now there is chance it can happen before the withdrawal." (Tova Dadon)
34. Even in a democracy - don't call for the death of the PM
Karen R ,   Maryland   (06.22.06)
I live in the original modern democracy, and I can guarantee you that if Mr. Wolpe were saying these sorts of things about the President here, he would have been in jail instantaneously. Free speech is a basic right, but it has legal limits, and promoting assassination isn't inside them. I am a life-long Democrat, but it would not occur to me to pray for the death of the current President - even though I loathe his administration - much less make thinly veiled threats against his life. But then again Wolpe's people don't believe in democracy - they aren't shy about saying so to each other - they want a theocracy with their own brand of pseudo-Judaism in control. These people aren't mainstream Hareidi - they're just maniacs.
35. Tzadik
Choni Davidowitz ,   Israel (and S> A>)   (06.22.06)
To all critics of Rabbi Wolpe, whether you live in Israel or in exile; This Tzadik loves Israel with all his heart, with all his soul, and all his might. Listen very carefuly to his words. He speaks the Torah truth.
36. religion mans worst enemy
eric ,   Israel   (06.22.06)
We live with these religious lunatics.I wish they would go back to New York.95% of them are crazy Americans. These freaks are Yigal Amirs pals.Religion is supposed to be love, respect and human understanding. Its not,its cold and hateful and you can have it..
37. The Torah is the only truth
Haim ,   Israel   (06.22.06)
It is really simple, either you believe in the Torah without questioning, then you can call yourslef a jew and deserve to live in this land or you don't, then what are you doing here?. The legitimacy of Israel is from the Torah, that means two banks of the river jordan. Any other belief makes Israel a colonical state not a jewish one.
38. prognosis
Michael ,   Haifa   (06.22.06)
A double frontal lobotomy may help the good Rabbi
39. Tazdik my arse
eric ,   Israel   (06.22.06)
The man has no heart or soul and he has no GOD.The guys crazy
40. #36 Eric - don't call this guy religious
Karen R ,   Maryland   (06.22.06)
This "gentleman" is definitely not religious - at least not in any of the branches of Judaism that I know about. He's no more a rabbi than Ahmenijad is. His words prove that he practices only his own ideology of domination and exclusion, not the religion of Judaism.
41. It is a shame
Hirsch ,   Jerusalem   (06.22.06)
Israel has leaders similar to animals, this rabbi dares to say. Shame on him in the name of the Almighty
42. Re #34. He is trying to avoid a dangerous situation
Steve ,   USA   (06.22.06)
B"H The key part of the Dov's quote is, "now there is chance it can happen before the withdrawal." What "it" refers to is not at all clear. The pronoun "it" seems to refer to "what the Almighty can do to those who carry out an evacuation." There are many who have carried out an evacuation of one sort or another. I think this is not a direct threat at all, but a reference to something vague, which the reader may fill in details for. It is kind like those ink blot paitings. You look at it and reveal what you see in it. But the painting itself can represent many different outcomes, depending on who views it. Your title, #34, on the other hand is, "Even in a democracy - don't call for the death of the PM". That seems much more direct to address what you might see being said. But I see nowhere in Dov's quote a "call for the death of the PM". I see there a warning that there were similar circumstances before that had a negative outcome, and that Dov sees a danger in the similarity of circumstances. Further, I am concerned with the hate you express: "I am a life-long Democrat, but it would not occur to me to pray for the death of the current President - even though I loathe his administration - much less make thinly veiled threats against his life." What kind of information are you revealing in your quote about what you feel towards your President? That scares me. And second, you quote: "But then again Wolpe's people don't believe in democracy - they aren't shy about saying so to each other - they want a theocracy with their own brand of pseudo-Judaism in control. These people aren't mainstream Hareidi - they're just maniacs." Dov said nothing about the government form at all. It is not clear at all that he is Hereidi. What he was doing was comparing circumstances in his quote. Where did this additional information of yours and reaction come from? Was it in relation to the paragraph, "The organization has held a meeting recently in order to fund the purchase of helmets and protective pads for youths who will try to prevent the evacuation of settlements in the West Bank." What, the youth are to be beaten instead of arrested if a law is violated? Helmets do not prevent arrests. Beatings are extrajudicial persecution, and beatings are not very supportive of Democracy! And third where is the violation of Democracy? Even in the desert, a vote was taken. Most leaders voted one way, and the entire nation suffered, except for those who two voted in the correct fashion. Where is there the violation of democracy? Are you saying that man did not present his position in congress at that time? Or would you rather that Caleb be subdued in his free speech in defense of his nation even though he was in the minority together with Josea? Quote of Dov: "We are sure that the realignment in Samaria will not take place. We saw what the Almighty can do to those who carry out an evacuation, and now there is chance it can happen before the withdrawal." - Dov Wolpe

I agree with you,sorry and thanks.Have a great day
44. Making your case
Sam ,   Canada   (06.22.06)
Religious people have a right if not a duty to make their case. The issue is the MANNER in which people make their case. No one has a hotline to God and to pretend one does is abusive.
45. Re #32: Interesting, but what is Hamas proposing?
Steve ,   USA   (06.22.06)
Karen, I appreciate your search term "State of Judea", and I want to follow up with you from one of the articles listed. Hamas proposes a single state without Jews. That is the represented Arab negotiation position. Olmert postions one state West of his fence, and an end date for negotiations. The positions the territory East of the fence as not the Israeli state. I am not seeing Hamas declare a state on that territory, because it has already declared a state on the entire territory of Israel, in its bid to remove all the Jews from there. I am not seeing Abbas in the democratic majority in that area either among his citizenry. So how would you expect to alieviate the Anarchy system setup there presently if there is not a Jewish state setup there, being that the Arabs are incapable of setting up a state with defined borders to the east of Olmert's fence at this time? What are you seeing as the outcome? Quote from http://www.enterstageright.com/archive/articles/0904/0904twostate.htm In juxtaposition to the commonly heard phrase, "two states for two peoples," i.e. Jews and Arabs or Israelis and Palestinians, one can summarize their idea in the phrase, "two states for one people," i.e. Jews-Judeans and Israelis. Let me point out here, there is a historic precedent for it, just open the bible to the Book of Kings, and you can read about the Kingdoms of Judah and Israel.
46. Omet's daughter called for murder
Yariv ,   Tel Aviv   (06.22.06)
Olmert's daughter called IDF Chief a murderer. She directly implied that the IDF Chief must be killed because you kill murderers. Why Olmert sent her and her left-wing friends to the house of IDF chief? Why she is not in jail? The Rabbi did not call Olmert or Peres murderers and did not go to Olmert's with a gang of people demanding Olmert's life. Don't worry about Olmert. He may even get a Nobel prize - he looks very nice in the picture next to another future Nobel prize winner Abbas.

Your A moron, you talk such crap..
48. Re #42: Intelligence ratings
Steve ,   USA   (06.22.06)
B"H You might attack me ... by calling me "moron", but you raised no new points on how Dov's quote should be categorized. My intelligence rating has no bearing on Dov's quote.
49. 48# STEVE your still a moron
eric ,   Israel   (06.22.06)

50. Re #49: I am not in Israel
Steve ,   USA   (06.22.06)
B"H I am not in Israel. Obviously your focus is me here, so hello, and thank you for the warm introduction.
51. WOLPE COULDN'T HURT THE SETTLERS MORE IF HE WAS PAID TO
David ,   Yerushalayim   (06.23.06)
To all the people who are upset about this Jews For Jesus idiot's latest outrageous statements: Every time he says something like this, he does more harm to the cause of the West Bank settlements than even Yossi Sarid as prime minister would dare. Any SERIOUS supporter of the settlement enterprise (not the Kahanist grandstanders who support him) is crying at the damage this guy does to their cause with his insane pronouncements.
52. Steve your welcome 50#

55. 54# to darryl
gabriela ben ari   (06.23.06)
I feel realy sorry for you for the fact that yuo cannot pen an opinion of yours on any topic, just "I hate you" or "great" and loosy phrases
56. Maybe he *was* paid to....
Karen R ,   Maryland   (06.23.06)
As pointed out in another post, this gentleman couldn't have hurt the settlers more if he had been paid to. Is it possible he is actually an agent provocateur - a plant by the security services who advocates extreme positions in order to discredit the organization? Remember Raviv and his involvement with Yigal Amir? Things can get very murky. When I was in a New Left organization in the '60's you could always tell the FBI spy - he was the one advocating something really stupid, violent and counterproductive. Maybe this guy is really from Shabak? I hope so, because I would hate to think that someone with a rabbinical education could be so anti-Torah in his ideology.
57. Hey Eric
Abu Daoud ,   Al-Quds   (06.27.06)
When calling someone a moron, please try to spell correctly; it adds credibility. YOU'RE a moron, Eric. See how that works? And BTW, Steve offered a balanced, logical analysis of what was said by Wolpe. Your statements, on the other hand, simply constituted a waste of bandwidth.
