31. #18; We are dealing with them with a very soft hand...
(06.27.06)
you think cutting electricity won't help? What about cutting water? We supply them with water too, and no human can live without water for long. In a week they will be too dehydrated to fight and will probably try to smuggle water bottles instead of weapons.
32. Palestinian arrest operation? haha
wider perspective   (06.27.06)
After all, the settler violated international law.
33. #22 Illegality of settlements
wider perspective   (06.27.06)
Israeli settlements in the occupied territories are obstacles to future withdrawal and resolution of the conflict. That's why international law prohibits such behavior: International Court of Justice has ruled in its advisory opinion in 2004 that Israeli settlements in the occupied territories are illegal under 4th Geneva convention. Conference of the High Contracting Parties to the 4th Geneva Convention in 1999 ruled that this Convention also applies to the Palestinian territories occupied by Israel, including East Jerusalem. UN Security Council Resolution 446 too says that the 4th Geneva Convention applies to the territories, and specifically insists that Israel desist from transferring its own population into the territories or changing their demographic makeup. The establishment and expansion of Israeli settlements in the West Bank (and Gaza Strip) has been described as illegal by the UN Security Council many times, for example in resolutions 446, 452, 465 and 471, although these were not binding. And the annexation of East Jerusalem has been deemed illegal by the UN Security Council Resolution 267. Costa Rica and El Salvador are the only countries that have their embassies in Jerusalem.
34. # 33 not binding resolutions have 0 importance.

35. Kidnapping?
Joe ,   Israel   (06.27.06)
If as the government proclaims that we are engaged in a war, then Gilad Shalit was captured not kidnapped. He was involved in a military engagement and was not a bystander. To perceive and label the Hamas and their ilk as criminals- because that is what kidnapping is- is ludicrous.

i think Israeli gov should rode this wave and start negotiations with hamas, as long as they are the legitimate leaders of palestinians. Hence, israeli gov should release the KIDNAPPEd women and children held in Holocaust tanks. It deserve to consider this gesture

42. Stop reacting to Ellens' baiting
Jennifer ,   Tel Aviv   (06.27.06)
She is obviously saying this sort of rubbish to entice our irritation, and all of us keep rising to the bait- lets just ignore her she will soon get board and bug another site. Maybe she needs the attention, I'm sure she gets pleasure out of reading our responses to her so lets not give her the satisfaction.
43. to #38
Jen ,   T A   (06.27.06)
Who told you that it was israel who won't talk with Hamas? It's Hamas who refuse to say we exisit so how do you talk to someone who doesn't exisit? This is the problem - also no other government around the world negotiates with terrorists.
44. #15
not important   (06.27.06)
So you admitted that Israel is in Palestine illegally!! I think Ellen is fully aware that the UK is in Iraq illegally you do not have to remind her, but most importantly you managed to spit out and admit that Israel is an illegal entity!!
45. #39, # 40, #42
Rustum ,   London, UK   (06.27.06)
Ellen has every right to post hear thoughts here. I don't read many of you objecting when Israel shoots innocent children dead - but when Ellen calls for human rights you start a chorus of "Gestapo incitement". Well - you obviously only wish to have a one-sided debate and that will get you nowhere. If you never hear what people on the "other side" think, you will all end up living in the fool's paradise of your own making where the emperor's new clothes are the order of the day. Deal with the issues. Let Ellen say what she thinks. There are certainly multitudes of other people who say things here which are so atrocious that they could well fall within the description of incitement to hatred and incitement to murder. Ellen's standpoint is a human rights standpoint. You might not like it - as being contrary to your interests - but, sad for you all, the human rights lobbies are going to go on and on and on until blatant and criminal infringements of Palestinians' human rights stop.
46. Brilliantly stated, Rustum!

I'm supposing that anything these people would do in any situation would be considered just, moral and legal. No standards of unacceptable behavoiur as long as Islam benefits.
