5. Syria ,your time has come
Marcel ,   Florida   (07.09.06)
Damascus ,one of the longest continuous inhabited cities on earth, but your time draws near. This is what the Jewish prophet Isaiah has to say about assad's hometown. I think we will see it come to pass very ,very soon. 1.The burden against Damascus. "Behold, Damascus will cease from being a city, And it will be a ruinous heap. 2 *The cities of Aroer are forsaken; They will be for flocks Which lie down, and no one will make them afraid. 3 The fortress also will cease from Ephraim, The kingdom from Damascus, And the remnant of Syria; They will be as the glory of the children of Israel," Says the Lord of hosts. ISAIAH17

8. Stop talking nonsense Assad
Caligula's Horse ,   Solomon's Stables   (07.09.06)
You know youself that the IDF can burn your entier country and reach the Euphrats within 60 hours, now stop talking and go back to worry about more important things like phoning up the muhabat in Lebanon, assasinating political enemies, eliminating cities with potential Muslim Brotherhood supporters, you know.
9. interesting..
Palestine my love   (07.08.06)
Now as Iraq is in state of lawlessness and turmoil Iran can send equipment and volunteers to Syria through Iraq. And with Russian hightech weapons Kornet and Igla things look very interesting.

12. Golan, Israeli Forever
Dave Levi ,   Burbank. USA   (07.09.06)
Is the author on something, Id like to know? First of all, any attacks would negate a return of the Golan for, maybe, 100 years. Secondly, Syria forgets how Israel "whupped" it's airforce years ago. True, the Syrian army is good at torturing captured Jews, but it's tank forces, well, are 3rd rate. But the main argument against Syrian intervention now is simple, Damascus is closer to Israeli guns, than Tel Aviv is to Syrian guns. It's one quick tank, APC, and F-15 flight to the Syrian capital, not to mention its oil reserves. Maybe a 3rd front is not in Israel's best interests, BUT, knocking Syria out a major player, will help me sleep at night.
13. Re: #9
Robert Tilden ,   Sheridan, WY, USA   (07.09.06)
Palestine your love, As usual (assuming you are Palestinian) are delusional. If you think Russia is interested in anything other than $$$ then you are wrong, if you think Syria will risk farther humiliation by having its shell of an army, based on technology that is at least 20 years old, be obliterated in a day or two by Israel, you are again mistaken. Notice that in the last few days Israel has killed about 40 militants and lost one, to friendly fire, in other words not a single loss from the outmoded Palestinian groups. The Syrians know this, they know that if they openly are at war with Israel their country is cluttered with easy to hit legitimate targets and their chances of causing meaningful damage to the Israeli side are minimal. But please, don't let reality bother your dream world, you never have before. The famous lines ‘One thousand Shahids on the way to Al Kuds’ seems to be little more than a slogan, we only reached 40 and the signs of a wanted cease fire are coming from the ones who declare they will fight to the death.

17. #9 Assad is an inept clown; don't fall for his crap
howard ,   pacific coast, usa   (07.09.06)
1. Enjoy attacking the Golan with Israel already mobilized and watching. 2. The IAF is the strongest airforce in the Middle East, whereas Syria's air defenses are apparently unable to stop 2 Israeli planes from buzzing Assad's palace. 3. Remember what happened to the Iraqi tank forces when the US used modern weapons? 4. Syria would launch SCUDs against Israeli cities. This would murder Israeli Arabs as well as Jews. The response would flatten Syria's infrastructure. "Interesting," you say. How many deaths should Syria cause in the name of hurting Israel? 5. The world's response to the Gaza conflict has been muted because most people recognize privately that Hamas brought this on itself. Even Arabs have shown solidarity but little enthusiasm, despite the efforts of the propagandists. Now, if Syria attacks Israel again (this time without help from Jordan and Egypt, I might add), who will defend Syria’s actions? Who will support Syria & Hamas? Iran & Hizballah, of course, but who else? Not Egypt, not Jordan, not Turkey, and almost certainly not Iraq or Lebanon. Iran would have to be crazy to try to sneak advanced weapons (or Shiite armed forces) through the Sunni Triangle and the US and Iraqi militaries. And Lebanese factions would be furious with Hizballah for dragging Lebanon back into Syrian’s Stupid Problems. 6. If Syria did this, there would be an immediate curfew in the WB, and Israel might have to finally treat Gaza as a true war zone. That isn’t good for Palestinians. “Interesting,” you say. The best you can hope for would be for Israel to rapidly smash Syria. The longer the conflict, and the more Israelis are killed, the more Israel would need to treat the situation as a full-scale war rather than keeping protection of civilians as a top priority. 7. Attack on Golan = green light for Israel to go bomb the **** out of Hamas's Syrian operations. 8. If Syria does this, I suspect that Israel will finally, once and for all, annex the Golan. Of course, Syria’s behavior in Lebanon shows you that Assad makes some incredibly stupid blunders – and Ahmadinejad is no doubt trying to get him to make another one. Assad might light a match in the dynamite factory. We’ll see. But instead of wishing up wars, try to reach out to human beings on the other side, find a way to get a realistic part of what you want, and end the conflict. Otherwise, some lunatic on your side will eventually use weapons of mass destruction because he thinks it's much more important to kill Israelis than it is to help Palestinians succeed. He will massacre my Israeli family and your Palestinian family, and will poison the land you say you love for generations to come. The world isn't perfect; none of us can have everything we want, or everything that every ancestor ever had. Claims overlap. That's the reality. Resolutions will sometimes seem arbitrary, but it's better to resolve it peacefully than to continue shooting rockets at schools and running tanks through orange groves. The current conflict can only be settled if both peoples agree that the other has a right to live in peace its place in the land. And that could start with Gaza, if Syria and Hamas would only let it start.
18. Pres Asad

25. I want you all to know.....
Bashar Assad ,   Damascus, Syria   (07.09.06)
that I was simply minding my own business, drinking my morning coffee (no milk, because i'm a bit lactose intolerent and i did not have any of my lactade pills on me at the time) ....anyway....I'm drinking my coffee when all of a sudden out of nowhere come a thousand israeli warplanes over my summer villa. It was so loud that my ears nearly burst and i spilled my coffee all over my new ralph lauren polo morning t-shirt ruining it. I immediately ran outside and started to shoot my bibi gun at the warplanes. The israeli cowardly zionist warplanes then fled as a result of my firing at them. I am an accurate marksman you know, because I am an eye doctor in real life. By the way, do any of you watch that american tv show called the simple life? It is very good. The vibrations from the israeli planes mis-aligned my satelite dish on the roof of my house and I ended up missing the show last week. Anyway, who is going to pay for the drycleaners to clean my shirt?

.. what Iran can't send is brains, combat experience, modernity and morale mathcing IDF. Igla and Kornet are 15-20 years old "high-tech". Saddam had these weapons in 2003, it didn't help him much. Don't forget, IDF fights for Israel's survival. "Fedayeen" fight for Iranian and/or Saudi oil money, and/or 72 f***ing virgins, and/or great pan-arabic dream, and/or tribal domination - all rotten stuff.
30. Assad
jason ,   israel   (07.09.06)
If he starts with Israel his ex vice president minister will find it easier to bring down his government. Maybe in kind- Israel should support Lebanon groups who want to end Syrian domination and bring Syrians to justice over Harari. Or maybe support Iraqis who are mad at Syria for their support of the insurgancy.
