32. Olmert attacking CIVILIANS in Gaza & Lebenon
Al Shamsi ,   Abu Dhabi, UAE   (07.17.06)
Olmert said : "The current fight is against terror organizations in Lebanon and Gaza" ... BUT ... He is attacking civilians in Lebanon and Gaza ... How this attack is justified? He should fight those who kidnapped IDF soldiers, not the CIVILIANS.
33. No Ceasefire, No Negotiations
MK ,   USA   (07.17.06)
Now that Israel started pounding Hizbollah, it needs to finish the task. There should be no withdrawal before Hizbollah is crushed completely. Even if the soldiers are returned, this incursion should not cease. I am a pacifist, but I know that this militias should be wiped out completely, for the sake of the Israelis, and for the sake of the whole region. NO NEGOTIATIONS, NO HALF MEASURES.
34. Olmert,I start liking you !
keren ,   sao paulo   (07.17.06)

Let me ask you this question..... What if the government cant stop terrorists.... and they have taken over? You cant condem a whole country based on stupid things their government does.

Yes,you are very right. The eyes must be kept VERY OPEN. But,for the moment,Olmert, apparently,is doing the right thing.HE MUST KEEP IT,and APRIMORATE IT!!! (people regret, sometimes, from their mistakes...let's give the chance!)

I am french, secular, and I support Israel 100%. If you hate Bush, I'd be more than happy to trade him for Chirac. Chirac would have never toppled Saddam; he loved him so much that he even supplied him with a nuclear reactor in 1979, you know, the one that the Israelis (whom we may be grateful to) destroyed in 1981. You can have Chirac anytime.
39. #32 Civilians get killed in all wars.
MARK ,   USA   (07.17.06)
That happens in every war and Lebanon allowed terrorists to run 1/2 the country. Bombs explode in to many many pieces. They miss their targets. mistakes happen
40. Western media MUST stop its 'automatic pilot' against Israel
stephany ,   NY, USA   (07.17.06)
You defined Hizballah and Hamas as terrorist groups. I feel very bad for your ignorance and lack of knowledge. Do not you believe that Israel is the number one terrorist state backed by number two USA. Hizballah and Hamas are nothing but freedom fighters Mr. ignorant

I think my views are shared with most in Israel except for a few nuts -- we don't want to hurt civilians. And, contrary to the popular belief in most Arab countries, we really regret every innocent life that is lost. It is extremely difficult to avoid hurting civilians when Hezbollah and Hamas fire rockets on Israel from the most densly populated areas on purpose. They regularly use human shields of woman and children. In their eyes, human life has no value.
42. # 32 from Abu Dhabi
Gilbert ,   Paris France   (07.17.06)
Any civilian loss is a tragedy. But you have to understand this - Hizballah uses civilian populations as human shields - If the IDF was deliberately targeting civilians, the casualties would not be 200, after more than 1000 sorties, an average of .2 per sortie. Think of the bombing in Irak today: a single attack really targeting civilians that left more than 50 dead. - finally try to imagine any arab leader leading the same war, imagine the number of civilians hurt. Think of how saddam, or Hafez al Assad , or bin Laden have behaved in the same situation
43. Val #16 - important questions, I will try to answer
Larry ,   Eastbourne, UK   (07.17.06)
Firstly I ask you to understand the background, which is that Hizbullah has built up a vast armoury of weapons and has now decided to use them against Israel. No country could tolerate this and it appears that Israel has made the decision - rightly in my opinion - that Hizbullah must be destroyed or at least seriously weakened. This requires a major military operation and it is regrettably inevitable that civilians will be killed. Secondly please be aware that the IDF and IAF take extraordinary care to minimise civilian casualties, even at the expense of hampering their operations. Just think how easy it would be for the IAF to saturation-bomb Beirut and other Lebanese cities. Thirdly on the question of asking people to leave targeted areas I guess the Israelis want civilians to leave the Hizbullah strongholds in south Lebanon for further north and in south Beirut for other parts of Beirut that are not being bombed. (Incidentally did you know that Hizbullah keep a lot of their missiles in private houses?) Fourthly your question about bombing civilian infrastructure is indeed important and I'm sure I cannot be the only strong supporter of Israel who is asking if some of the bombing is excessive or misplaced. Unfortunately the terrorists are, as you surely know, supplied from Syria and Iran, and therefore the airports, seaports and roads which are used to transport weapons have become part of the terrorist (as well as civilian) infrastructure and thus are legitimate military targets as Israel tries to stop the rockets being replenished. Finally, the fact that Hizbullah is using all these weapons proves conclusively that the weapons build-up was never just a matter of having a balance of power with Israel, Hizbullah always intended to go to war against Israel. They wanted the war, Israel did not.

You are a typical example of your people; nothing but illogical hate up there. Your arab friends hate your guts and now you will be pulverised by the IAF and IDF. Your people have been refugees under the charitable hands of the Israelis, who gave you the opportunity of a bright future but, you bit the hand that fed you and blew it. No one will feel sorry for you.

Are you suggesting that because the Lebanese government cannot reign Hizbullah Israel should suffer quietly? Get a grip!

Michael ,   Waterloo Canada   (07.18.06)
The question is not about the right of Israel to defend itself, it is about who is to blame for the current situation. Two different questions entirely.
47. Thank you #25

Dear yasser_2, I am always pleased and encouraged to hear from sensible, educated Arabs such as yourself. Please continue to speak up and fight the good fight. If you ever choose to come see beautiful, strong, multi-cultural Israel for yourself I would be honoured to be your host and your tourguide. Gilan Proud Canadian-Israeli Zionist Entity.
48. Beilin: still hasn't got a clue
aaron ,   ra'anana   (07.18.06)
its his fault we are in this mess. post-Oslo terror has now caused more deaths than the Yom Kippur War and the War of Independence combined
49. I truly don't care what Olmert says, just what he does.
AK   (07.18.06)
For now, half of israel is in ruins, half million of Israelis in bomb shelters and 600 dead and wounded. And the rockets keep coming, which means that Hamas and Hezbollah are not really damaged. Remember Olmert, speak softly and carry a big stick, not the other way around.
50. Val, dear, be assured that I am not worried in the least
AK   (07.18.06)
about how much casualties IDF is creating. But then I'm not an Israeli. Whatever it takes to eradicate Hizbollah is justifiable and fine by me. Why don't you worry about the Israeli civilians, after all Israel is a victim, not the aggressor? Believe me, if somebody enters my home to attack me, I will show him/her no mercy. By the way, you worry about Lebanese bridges, but why don't you ask why Arab shell indiscriminately Israeli cities hitting private homes, apartment building, houses of worship, schools and today almost hitting a hospital. Do you question their conscience, or like good liberal you don't think one should even expect Arabs to have morals or conscience?
51. Barbaric laws for barbarians
Dr. Eric Low ,   Malaysia   (07.18.06)
The western media must learn to understand that Islamic militants are not bothered of our decent and civilised laws. They are basically lawless, aggressive and in short barbaric. They have to be treated with barbaric laws and without mercy! In fact they should be wiped out by Israel from this planet completely!

53. YASSER #25 FOR UN AMBASSADOR
Mar Shed ,   Kansas City - US & A   (07.18.06)
Yasser, I want to thank and praise you for your bold and brave statement. What you said is not popular and is rarely heard from any Arab nation. Perhaps a coup is inorder and you could be the new head of the UN and not Crappi Annan? Have you ever thought about a role in world politics. It is honest open mindedness like this that the world needs now. THANK YOU! SALAM - SHALOM
