61. A negotiated peace ? Re #52
Tim ,   Tucson, AZ, USA   (08.14.06)
Sanda, for Germany, and Japan, only unconditional surrender yeilded peace. "Cease-fire" = Arabic for "Re-arm, Re-group, and Re-Hate"
62. Pissed at Israel? I'm pissed at Bush...
Curtis Lemay ,   Tampa, FL-USA   (08.14.06)
Sure, be upset at Olmert and his cabinet. But what about Bush & Condi Rice. If the US wants to play grab-ass with the French and the UN, fine. But why didn't Bush stipulate that Iran & Syria not be allowed to resupply and rearm Hezbollah, and ensure that Iran is prevented from sending millions of $$$ to Hezbollah to continue social welfare programs and bogus propoganda??? And what about the kidnapped soldiers??? This UN resolution is just like all the rest - pure Bullshit! No substance, no teeth, and won't solve anything. Indeed, anything the UN gets involved with will only create more problems. Hezbollah must be utterly defeated, tactically, and strategically!
63. the kidnapped soilders
mike ,   jackson usa   (08.14.06)
israel lost!!!! your goverment sold out your lost heros. why the war ? sorry israel.
64. Bibi's words - A present danger to Israel
Marc ,   USA   (08.14.06)
This is exactly the kind of talk that perpetuates the Islamic people (and by know, the World) to show aggression to Israel. Never mind that Israel has never returned all the land taken since 1967 (or as Bibi would call it “unilateral withdrawals”). Israel individuals like Mr. Netanyahu sees the return of land as a “week gesture” from Israel, rather than recognizing that this is the most imminent danger that the State of Israel faces. Yet despite all the violence, Israel still refuses to return and recognize other people’s land (and so, in return, others refuse to recognize Israel). Only when the Jewish State returns land and recognizes government (pre-1967) (and thus, finally legitimizes the concept of “self-defense” from here on for the Jewish State) is that Israel would avoid apocalyptic consequences.
65. N B is right.
Bob ,   U.S.A.   (08.14.06)
Dear Friend Israel, Here I sit in my comfortable California home lamenting the tragedy of the last few days of this ugly war. Unfortunately, we here in the United States don't get it! It's an automatic assumption by our liberal left that political correctness will make everyone feel good about themselves and that the world will be a better place if we just be kind to one another. That's a bunch of CRAP! In today's world, we must face the facts that when you fight an asymmetrical war with an enemy that only respects strength, the solution is to take it to them with strength. It WILL be ugly... however, it's going to take ugly to get their attention. Don't worry about the empty suits at the U.N. They're nothing more than losers from the League of Nations without a spine. If Harry Truman were alive he'd be throwing the big bombs on Tehran. I would like to see in my lifetime the U.S. and Israel use the REAL tools of war and rid the plant of these animals.
66. Israel's Defense is Israel's Business, Not World Citizens
Tony ,   Pittsburgh PA USA   (08.14.06)
Israel as a sovereign nation was attacked and has the right to totally defeat her enemies without "world" approval. Any other country would not ask permission to retaliate. It is not war mongering to fight to achieve unconditional surrender.
67. Missing the point
Pete ,   USA   (08.15.06)
Netanyahu and all of you miss the point. It is true that the enemy you fought in this conflict was Iran, but saying the Ahmadinejad is the danger is gravely mistaken. As anyone with any sense knows, Ahmadinejad is nothing more than a mouthpiece. The real powe in Iran rests with the so-called "supreme leader" Khamenei. If you cut off this serpent's head, you will destroy the Iranian serpent. Lending credence to the puppet mouthpiece as the power in Iran does a grave disservice to everyone in Israel.
68. Much like the Spanish Civil War
future1   (08.15.06)
Yes. I agree that Iran's Leader is the next Hitler. This IS the 1930's and the most recent Lebanon War was a showcase of Iranian supplied weapons just like the Germans did in the Spanish Civil War. Breaking news...the Arabs now realize that anti tank weapons are the new 'cool'. This means the IDF needs to adapt and use more infantry. No point in using tanks just for their thermal sights and being big targets. The IDF must prepare a new type of Blitzkrieg to adapt to massive use of anti tank missiles.
69. Olmert & Kadima
Fred Becker ,   Kissimmee, Florida   (08.15.06)
There should no longer be any doubt, Israli's elected into office the worst possible candidate. Olmert sold Israel out by putting his hands on the war effort. How could Israel allow him to run the war. No experience and no sense. He and his party must go...NOW!
70. Iran = Aryan
David ,   U.S.   (08.15.06)
Similarities in more than just name...
71. Benjamin Netanyahu fight for freedom
Al Farr ,   Chandler, USA   (08.15.06)
He knows what is needed. You must destroy your enemy’s quickly; Israel existed as a nation until the time of the Roman Empire. Even after the dispersions of ad. 70 and ad. 135. Brittan promised in 1917 to set aside captured lands. All present -day Israel and Jordan. Arabs began to repopulate the land only after the Jews reclaimed it and the land had begun to prosper. no nation in the region has a longer-standing historic claims to the land than Israel, Saudi Arabia was not created until 1913, lebanon,1920; iraq,1932; syria,1942;jordan,1946;and Kuwait, 1961. So it belongs to Israel
72. no money for Lebanon
Allen ,   Chandler USA   (08.15.06)
USA is sending 51 million dollars to rebuild this place. We are totally nuts I mean totally. Who gets the money? Hezbullcrap will get it. Lebanon let Israel take the hit because their military are cowards and we want to hand these clows money. Were nuts
73. To #65 - AMEN TO THAT SIR!
Patte ,   Michigan, USA   (08.15.06)
I'd love to see that too - but does anyone have the guts anymore?
74. # 17 Lets Roll our Sleeves Up...
Josh Hertz ,   Montreal Qubec   (08.15.06)
Please be so kind as to read the extensive research done on the arab-israel conflict entitled - "From Time Immemorial: The Origins of the Arab-Jewish Conflict over Palestine by Joan Peters - (the author assumed the Arab’s right until she discovered the British Mandates and the UN's files...), you'll get the score quite accurate, (if you have an attention span befitting a "World Citizen". I have some extra Ritalin if you need). - The Arabs in this issue are lying pathologically, a thing which the west picked up after 50 or so years. They laugh at the westerner's, see them as gullible goofs, that can be manipulated easily. - As far as your issue with G-d is concerned. Let us say this much that the Wakf is busying itself for years to eradicate any evidence of the Holy Temple of the Jews from the temple mount. I have not seen any Israeli's going to Mecca trying to claim Title to the shrine there. Check out Archaeology in Israel you wont see any Arabic records going back to 2500 plus years. Israel is full of Jewish History, from the Western Wall, the Cave of the Patriarchs, the Tomb of Rachel, the Tomb of Joseph in Nablus Nebu Samuel (the prophet Samuel a biblical figure held to be holy by even the Arabs) in the south - to the Tombstones of the Rabbis of the Talmud in the north. Imagine a couple of Icelandic families taking over Vatican City claiming it to be they're home town, - in this case the absurdity is no less evident. - I would advise you to maybe move your residence to some Arab country run by radical Islamists, (make sure to get a good life-insurance policy and sign your friend (or me) on as a beneficiary). Don't Fool Yourself; Search For The Truth For You Will Find It. Josh Check out the book.. "From Time Immemorial” (review) Joan Peters, a professional writer and researchers, received a grant from an Arab Foundation to write a history of the ancient roots of the Arab population in historic Palestine. The problem was that, when she actually began doing her research, she found that most of the common beliefs about the long history of that population are just inaccurate. In fact, she found that the majority of the current population descended from waves of migration beginning in the 19th century and peaking in the early 20th. Peters also notes a long history of Arab aggression against Israel, and before that, Jews. In the 1920s, 1930s and 1940s, she shows that Arab pogroms killed thousands of Jews and destroyed many Jewish West Bank and Gaza communities established long before the 1948 war, some for hundreds or thousands of years. This followed a pattern of abuse, Peters demonstrates, which dominated much of the Arab world for 1,000 years. There, Jews were a minority, often (though not always) oppressed--subject to periodic rapes, massacres, dispersion and other horrors. A former journalist and peace negotiator, Peters shows that over time reporters have revised history and accepted the false thesis that Palestinian Arabs were peace-loving victims of Jewish aggressors, while ignoring voluminous Arab propaganda proving the exact opposite. In 1948, for example, Hajj Amin el-Husseini--the British-appointed Jerusalem mufti--called for a war of annihilation against the Jews, a threat repeated by Gamel Naser in 1967.... to check it out on amazon copy the link: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0963624202/sr=8-1/qid=1155588579/ref=pd_bbs_1/002-6572469-7180813?ie=UTF8
75. Bibi Netanyahu's speech
Miriam Jakubowitz   (08.15.06)
Bibi Netanyahu is the man Israel needs as prime minister in these horrific times. It is so unfortunate Isreal's current Prime Minister bungled the war effort several weeks ago. If he hadn't, the war would have been over and many people would still be alive. Perhaps the people of Israel will reflect on this fact when they go to polls again and elect a real leader in these ominus days ahead!!!
76. This is setup for the next war.
Matt ,   Issaquah, USA   (08.15.06)
The weakness that the Israelis have shown in this war will come back to haunt them in the next war. In the next war I can see Syria using chemical weapons against Israeli cities.
77. Disappointed in Bush and Rice dealing with Hezbollah
Shannon ,   USA   (08.15.06)
As an American, I wish to apologize to Israel for the absurd UN resolution. The USA owes Hezbollah some grave sites after their attacks on our Marines and embassies in 1983. President Bush has apparently lost his mind. I am so sorry. I pray that Israel will go after the true evil makers, Iran and Syria. The sooner you do that, the better off the whole world will be. BOMB them to KIngdom Come. Please. God Bless Israel and their People.!
78. SANDRA #52
GAYE ,   NYC USA   (08.15.06)
HI SANDRA, WHEN A COUNTRY SUCH AS YOURS LOSES A WAR THEN THE VICTORS WRITE THE RULES. YOU KNOW HOW THE RUSSKIES KICKED YOUR ASS. WELL NOW THE 5 ARAB ARMIES LOST TO ISRAEL AND NOW THEY HAVE HAD THEIR ASS KICKED. IT IS NOT UP TO YOU WITH YOUR SAD KNOWLEDGE OF HISTORY TO GIVE ADVICE THAT ESPECIALLY YOU ARE NOT QUALIFIED TO DO. GO HOME AND GO BACK TO BED. PLEASE DON'T WRITE BACK.
79. Israel Survival.
john garnett ,   canyon Lake,Texas   (08.15.06)
Israel is perious close to being to being over-run...All Jews in Israel should put out a call to all the Jews to come to Israel and help defend it.. Israel is hated by most Nations of the World.-[Ref.UN Voting].France and Germany have allowed infiltration of Islamic Jihad advocates to the extent that they are influencing these Countrys 'Government to become Anti=Semitic. Israel should warn the World that any attack on their soil will be met with shock and awe methods..They will not weaken theirselves by trying to reduce civilian casualties..In fact,as the Allies did in WWII,civilians should become prime targets...Screw the Geneva Protocals..Israel Enemies do not recognize the protocals, why should israel..Worrying about World opinion is is a mute subject..WAR is HELL and Israel should rain down Hell on any one that attacks them.If NUKES are necessary,Isreal should use them..
80. He who know does not tell, he who tells does not know
stone baker ,   san francisco usa   (08.15.06)
correct me if i am wrong, but the only ones who aren't world citizens are the imaginary people the voices told me the column compared this poster boy for muslim defiance to a past adversary, and his aspirations to protect the domain
81. Cease Fire
John Horton ,   Phoenix USA   (08.15.06)
You never should have stopped. A very bad mistake. Hammas and Hisbolla should have been totally destroyed. They will rearm and attack with heavier materials and longer reaching rockets. Go back and destroy them. That is the only thing they will understand! Iran also if needed.
82. Reply to Matt #76
Rony ,   Havertown   (08.15.06)
Yes, and I can see Damascus as one big glowing parking lot. Any questions?
83. Sandra #52
Bob ,   U.S.A.   (08.15.06)
Sandra #52, Do you believe in history or lies? Please do yourself a favor; lift that "burka" and read #71 and #74. Unfortunately, George Bush and his stable of cronies don't have the balls to the job they should have done on September 12, 2001. Turn the Islamic world into a giant radioactive junk pile that WILL glow in the night. I'm with Curtis Lemay #62!
84. Iran
DonUSA ,   Missouri, USA   (08.15.06)
Mr Netanyahu needs to be reminded that the after Israel, Iran has the most Jews in the Middle East area. If Iran's president hated Jews, they would now be in dire straits. What he does hate, is that the Israeli and our U.S. government only allows one nation in the Middle East to have "Weapons of mass destruction", in this case, the worst of them all, nuclear bombs, along with the capability to deliver them over vast distances. Israel is a bigger nuclear power than England, according to Jane's Intelligence, the world recognized authority on such matters, based in England. Iran, as well as the other governments in the Middle East, are not only disallowed to have nuclear parity, they are not allowed to have nuclear capability in the most primitive manner. It is this that drives the Iranian president to hate Israeli policy, and therefore the Israeli state.
85. Never Again
Daryl ,   Minneapolis, USA   (08.15.06)
I PRAY that never again will Israel allow the World Press to determine how it will conduct the defense of it`s people. We can`t expect a world hostile to Israel to ever understand just what the nation of Israel endures just to survive. It is impossible to wage a politically correct war, and expect to win. It`s common knowledge that the "civilians" is southern Lebanon were at best, Hezbolla supporters, and that many were in fact, card carrying Hezbolla members. Trying to minimize civilian casualties didn`t make the world any frendlier to israel, and only created more casualties among Israeli soldiers. WHAT part of "combat zone" didn`t these "civilians" understand? Israel has survived because of her military strength, and ONLY because of her military strength. The US made a tragic mistake in Iraq, by not asserting control, and dealing harshly with the terrorists. I fear that now Isael has made the same mistake, and is doomed to fight yet another war to drive these barbarians from her gates(again). If the Arabs are so concerned with the Palestinian land issue, why not give them part of the desert that egypt has no real use for, and lets see it they can build a country of their own, insted of lusting after Israel and any false pretense that Israel should "give it back". My history say`s the Jew`s have been there for over 2,500 years, since way before most of these other countries even existed! since before Islam existedPlease oh Israel, don`t be decieved by the pandering of politicans who only seek power, and sell you down the river! NEVER AGAIN!
86. Netanyahu in a landslide
Mark ,   SC, USA   (08.15.06)
The whole Arab and Muslim world is no longer scared of the IDF, thanks to the boundless incompetence of Olmert. If Israel wants to send a message to Muslims that they aren't ripe for the taking, they better have a new election immediately and vote in Netanyahu by historic proportions.
87. betwen the lines of cease fire
mike ,   bklyn NY   (08.15.06)
there is a factor that no one is talking about in re. to cease fire..I think Israel went along because of the hez anti tank technology..Israel's tanks were sitting ducks for the terrorists who were having success agains Israel"s "point of the spear".. Israel took a needed step back to find a counter to a truly devastating new weapon.which proved much more deadly then the rockets..
88. No mercy toward terrorists.
Gabriel Ramis ,   Brandon, Fla. USA   (08.15.06)
I thought for a moment that this opportunity would allow Israel, once and for all to erase Hizbollah from the face of the earth. I'am not Jewish, but I would join the IDF if I wasn't so old. I spent 24 years in the US Air Force, and would gladly offer my skills. I can't imagine Iran with nuclear missiles. We must defend Israel at all cost.
